Great South Run anyone

Anyone running the GSR - and more importantly, anyone run it before and have any tips? I'm a bit concerned about having to hand around for ages at the start - I'm reckoning with the long wait and being a slow runner I'll have 3 hours without going to the loo!

Me me me! i started a thread a little while ago but no responses :( So nice to see another runner! Its meant to be quite a flat course so quite a nice run. Have you done any events before Noseynoonoo? I always worry about needing a wee too!

Noseynoonoo · 16/10/2013 16:36

Hello! I've only done a small 10k that allowed you to rock up any time so I probably went to the loo about 15 mins before it started. Can't believe I'm stressing about the loo!

Is no one else running this? I am taking it easy this week in preparation for the race. Looks like it's going to be a wet one though. My poor family coming to watch :-(

where and when is it? might be good for next year

HaPPy8 · 22/10/2013 18:25

Its in Portsmouth and its in October - this weekend coming this year!

HPDeskjet · 23/10/2013 16:48

Its live on Channel 5. The coverage will probably be over by the time I am even allowed through the start gate.

HaPPy8 · 24/10/2013 17:56

The weather looks terrible for this... gale force winds :(

HPDeskjet · 26/10/2013 08:20

The weather looks to be perking up now . Windy but not too wet.

HaPPy8 · 26/10/2013 08:40

Oh good fingers crossed that is the case. I don't mind wind OR rain, its the combination of both thats a killer!

Iggity · 26/10/2013 12:42

Am doing it tomorrow. Any ideas on best place to park? I want to a avoid the sea front so I can escape quickly. I don't know Portsmouth and driving down from London. Am a bit worried about the weather. Wonder will the wind help blow me along!

HPDeskjet · 26/10/2013 18:48

Parking-wise, go for the first car park you can find because they get full quickly and you'll be closer to the exit of the island on the way out.

Iggity · 27/10/2013 17:37

Well I nearly got blown over to Isle of Wight today. Last two miles were awful. Worse than running on sand. I parked in Crasswell Street and while nice and handy when I arrived, it was quite a walk! Finished race about quarter to 1 and only just home at 5.30pm.......I think I might strike it off my list. But was enjoyable and nice flat course apart from the gales. Hope everyone else enjoyed it.

HaPPy8 · 27/10/2013 19:36

Really enjoyed it! Last 2 miles were very hard with the wind but great feeling to cross the line. Im going for it next year!

Pinkglow · 30/10/2013 14:26

Didn't see the original thread but I really enjoyed this one. I didn't really go for it but just took it slow and enjoyed the route and the supporters. Last two miles were hard mentally but thought the other runners were really friendly and nice.

I've only just found the thread, but I've just done my third GSR. Fab atmosphere; great event. We've now worked out that the easiest way to do the aftermath is to park on the Common, and then to miss the rush by walking to Gunwharf Quays for lunch and wine, and then drive home after 5 ish.
