Right, lets find all the park runners we have on here. I did my first park run on sat.

I am very impressed with my time of 33.18 :) I am ridiculously pleased with myself.

So park runners, where are you?

Looking forward to running again and hoping the bursitis won't come straight back. Volunteered Saturday and did scanning again :)

IsThatTrue · 09/09/2013 09:25

I use strava ( the free version) atm. But really want rid of my phone while I run, but still want all the data >geek

My (cheapest and most basic) model Garmin forerunner 110 is coming up to two years old and has been well worth the money. I'm a data lover too, to the point where we had to go back to pick it up when setting off on our holidays Grin.

I have been running without music ever since I put my ipod through the washer by mistake about 6 months ago, and can't now imagine running with headphones.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 09/09/2013 09:33

IsThat - just treat your parkrun as a warm up for the 10K Smile

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 09/09/2013 09:35

IsThat - I keep meaning to say, there's another thread where I lurk now and again, where there is a poster on there called ThisIs - I keep getting you confused and thinking I've seen you posting on there Grin

Bakingnovice · 09/09/2013 09:44

Has anyone had a time around 40 mins and managed to bring it down? I can't see it ever happening.

I use the Nike app on my iPod but for some reason it tells me I've completed the 5k when I've got one lap remaining at park run!

IsThatTrue · 09/09/2013 09:45

ohone I can't get the hang of running with headphones. They big the hell out of me. I had to dump them 1/2 way through a parkrun once! I tend to lurk a lot, especially around weightloss threads but rarely post.

Bakingnovice i started at 38/39 mins and am now down to 34.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 09/09/2013 10:51

Baking did you calibrate your Nike app? I used to have the one where you put a chip on your shoe, but it was based on an average stride, and as I have short legs and take more steps to cover the same distance it was always off. That was one reason I bought my garmin.

It is entirely possible to get faster. When I finished C25K I was only managing about 4km in 30 mins, now I am regularly sub-30 for 5km even after a late nightGrin

KristinaM · 09/09/2013 11:36

I have a garmin too and I love it. I use the pacing feature a lot.

At the end of your run it gives you a time for each split that you chose ( I have km) . This showed me that even though I thought I was slow on hills, I was in fact REALLY REALLY SLOW on hills Blush

Of course you can download the data onto their website and get a little graph with elevations too .

Bakingnovice · 09/09/2013 16:26

No calibration and I'm another one with short legs. Makes sense that the Nike app won't be exact.

Blatherskite · 09/09/2013 18:48

You should go for it IsThatTrue. I've got a 10k in the evening the day after I do Aylesbury's first parkrun which I was concerned about but after my mammoth weekend I', feeling more confident now :)

If I can do parkrun plus a PB mile and then a half marathon the day after you can manage just parkrun and a 10k right?

Told you I was the wrong person to ask Wink

I have a Garmin 110 too. You can get loads of stats when you upload it which makes it really interesting. I also discovered recently that you can upload direct to www.fetcheveryone.com too which has a whole extra layer of stats and graphs! It's been showing me how many miles I've been doing per week and per month and I'm getting competitive with myself!! You can add them manually without a watch and I'd really recommend it.

IsThatTrue · 09/09/2013 19:07

blathers maybe you were exactly the right person to ask. I'm going to do it. DH is out sat afternoon so he can't complain about a few extra hours childcare (all children are home this weekend). I must promise myself not to push too hard though. Hmm we'll see how that works out!

It's the garmin 110 I want for Xmas!

I just remembered something that happened at my parkrun on Sat. The director asked at the start if anyone had come from far afield. One fella said he was from Bushey Park. There was much oohing and ahhing and general murmurs of respect Grin

I'm in awe of you hardcore runners. I'm just hoping I can work up to 10K by November.

woundbobbin · 09/09/2013 20:04

Must get myself a super watch (& stop stealing hospital wrist bands to write splits on) - you lot are inspiring me I'm thinking of doing a little 10k just me and dd on my day off on Thursday I've checked the weather & no rain sheduled so that's my 1st excuse gone!

Blatherskite · 09/09/2013 20:17

I got mine last christmas. It was definitely my favourite present :) They do a parkrun on christmas day in MK. If it weren't for the fact that the kids would go crazy, I'd definitely do it.

Bushey park is the original parkrun wem I really want to go and do it one week

wem · 09/09/2013 20:22

I know, I just loved the reaction :). I wanted to ask him if he was doing a parkrun tour, trying to tick them all off or something.

IsThatTrue · 09/09/2013 21:00

wem I only started running in June and my first 10k race is on Sunday! I did my first 10k run in early August. You'll get there :)

What run should I do tomorrow? I normally get out around 7.30 so it's basically dark now ( depressing). Which rules out a lot of my 10k routes. Although if I'm doing the race sun, parkrun sat, thurs I should do some intervals/hills (probably hills as I find it harder to quit) which means tomo is 10k

OP posts:
Blatherskite · 09/09/2013 21:45

Do a 5k and call it tapering True :)

I did my first 10k last November so less than a year ago still. It gets very addictive this running malarkey!

IsThatTrue · 09/09/2013 21:54

It is pretty addictive. I normally run tues, thurs, sat. So every other day, except when I have Sunday-Monday break. By tues I am chomping at the bit to get out. I don't think I could wait another day!

I do have a 8k route that doesn't go off road actually, I could do that tomorrow. My hills/intervals will have to be done with the buggy on thurs Confused no idea how that will go!

OP posts:
Blatherskite · 09/09/2013 22:17

I used to to Tuesday-Thursday-Saturday. Then I did Juneathon and now I find the rest days hard as I'm raring to go out!

I did give myself tonight off though :)

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 10/09/2013 00:35

I am doing speed tomorrow morning - 6 x half miles at 5k pace, with 2 minutes rest between each repeat. The rest intervals sound the best part right now Smile.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 10/09/2013 08:06

I can't quite believe it.

I ran 3 miles in 35 minutes. But 10 of those minutes were the rest intervals, which means a 26 minute-ish 5K. No way could I have kept up the pace over a longer distance than the half miles I was running, but it does give me hope that I can keep chipping away at my PB.

And it was nice to run at full pelt and get properly puffed out instead of my usual easy pace.

IsThatTrue · 10/09/2013 08:23

Wow! Well done ohone I'm not sure I could run full pelt for 1/2 a mile!

OP posts:
OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 10/09/2013 09:45

Neither did I Grin
