hi, I've just done w5r2. The next run is 20 mins!!!!!!! how on earth? serious wobble here. it sounds such a long time.

I have also been using map my run and im only getting as far as 3.6k in over the course of a podcast. Am I just terribly slow?

Dawndonnaagain · 13/09/2013 08:58

Week 2 run 2 done.
Initially I thought I would never leave the house because I'm so big. However, I am now thinking, well, maybe when I've lost a bit more weight or my shape changes a little. Anyway, I'm currently running indoors, barefoot on a treadmill. I get so hot and sweaty and that too is an incentive to go outside. Is anyone able to recommend some (reasonably priced) trainers for if/when I venture out of the back door?
Thank you.

BIWI · 13/09/2013 09:07

nearlyreadytopop - you will manage it, honestly! It's all in your mind. And you will feel fantastic when you have achieved it.

I wouldn't worry about your speed at this stage. Just focus on the programme.

OrmirianResurgam · 13/09/2013 10:59

Right I have now done all three of the Cto5K plus podcasts. Stepping stones is now a doddle (not really!), speed one is OK, but the stamina one!!! OMG! Nearly killed me but I did it. I must run really slowly though because even with a higher BPM for 35 mins I could only manage just over 5k. But I am measuring it out on google maps so I might be a bit inaccurate

watchingout · 13/09/2013 15:21

Been missing running so....JUST JOINED A GYM!! Shock

Off to do my first quick induction. Wish me luck!

CiderwithBuda · 13/09/2013 22:24

Dawndonnagain - please don't run barefoot. You need support and cushioning. You will hurt yourself. Any pair of trainers would be better than barefoot.

You can get properly analysed regarding gait /pronation etc. or you can just go to a sports direct and ask there. They usually have some on offer.

I think I remember from up thread that you are a size 20? I am too. Ad I run outdoors! Whenever I pass anyone they generally just say hello.

Hi Orm! Shame we are not closer - we could run together. Although I am only on week 3!

scarecrow22 · 13/09/2013 23:15

want to do park run tomorrow as my graduation run was so disappointing - will be my moment to say " I did that" - and only five months after they cut through nine layers of my belly and took a child out. But I feel anxious about it now Sad

watchingout · 14/09/2013 07:47

Scarecrow - remember how anxious you felt at the start of the programme?!

Go for it - you'll be fine. And you feel GREAT after. Brilliant start to the weekend Wink

scarecrow22 · 14/09/2013 08:49

I actually feel sick with nerves

LizzieVereker · 14/09/2013 09:58

Go on, Scarecrow! I'm cheering you on Thanks

watchingout · 14/09/2013 10:46

Are you back yet?! Wink BrewBrew

scarecrow22 · 14/09/2013 13:28

Thanks watching and Lizzie. I'm back and v pleased I did it. Hopefully I won't be so nervous in future. Was more stressed also because DH insisted on driving with DC in case DS was howling for a feed (bf) and so we left late and I was packing nappy bags etc... Then i arrived and there were c 1000 runners (yes, thousand!) and i was about 8th from the back! I managed to keep it steady and made my way to c half way up field by end. It was an amazing sight at the start, runners 20 abreast spread out over a good half km.

scarecrow22 · 14/09/2013 13:30

There were two women at least in mid 50s, possibly early 60s, wearing 250 Park Run tops. I am in awe!

cinnamongreyhound · 14/09/2013 15:53

Well done nearlyreadytopop, take w5r3 steady and you'll be fine.

Dawndonnaagain you can get your gait analysed in a running shop or sweatshop but it doesn't mean you have to buy from then can then go online and see what offers you can find on the right model. When I started I found a video and article about how to tell if you over or under pronate or are a neutral runner and which model of each brand suited that type of running and bought online. When I got my most recent pair the guy in the shop said I was spot on with shoe choice.

Yay, go scarecrow22!! That's a big parkrun! We had 41 today and some 100 park run t-shirt wearers.

I was 5seconds off my pb again today but really didn't enjoy it at all :(. Think since running longer distances I don't like the feeling of pushing myself the whole time. I did it without music as I'm trying to run without to prepare for my half marathon where I'm not allowed.

I did it!!!Grin thank you for the encouragement. Grin Grin

nearlyreadytopop · 14/09/2013 17:21

feeling very happy with myself.Smile

can we discuss underwear?? good running bras for large of nork ladies?

scarecrow22 · 14/09/2013 17:34

I exaggerated: there were 803 runners. Or, simply, a lot. Was 482nd Confused

scarecrow22 · 14/09/2013 17:39

nearlyready in Sweatshop today I saw one of the staff had a badge saying she was trained in fitting sports bras. I am large - usually Dish, currently J Blush , and feel v strongly best fit bra second only in importance to right shoes. Really worth it. m&s rubbish at fitting in my experience.

MsVestibule · 14/09/2013 19:51

nearlyready, I wear a Shock Absorber, was fitted in Bravissimo. I'm 34FF and it keeps everything in place. It's not very comfortable to wear for a long time before the run though (sometimes I put mine on first thing if I know I'll be running in the morning).

Anyway, back to me Wink. I pulled a muscle in my calf on my W2R3 Shock. I'm not in too much pain, feels sore rather than painful, but I had to cut my run short and now won't be able to run until it's better. How long should it take? Days? Weeks?

nextphase · 14/09/2013 20:37

I too run in a shock absorber, from these guys

There were a couple of Q from recent graduates (sorry, not been on for a while). I've dropped to running once a week now. One swim, one exercise class, and one run. I landed the C25k+ stamina first, and yes, it killed me. Stepping stones is nearly licked. Tried speed for the first time last night, and it was reasonably easy - I didn't realise how short it was, so ran my way through the cool down, and then did a 5(7) min walk to get home.
might have to pluck up the courage to try stamina again...

I started this when it was warm. Been running in 3/4 running tights and a vest style top. It was a bit chilly last night. Do you layer up, or just buy a long sleeved running top?

watchingout · 14/09/2013 22:03

Scarecrow - did you go to Sweatshop with your newly earned discount voucher?! Wink

pennygallops · 14/09/2013 22:34

Well done scarecrow you finished about half way. Did you have fun? That's a very busy parkrun. My local parkrun had 180 runners - I was 98th in a little over 28mins. DS struggled a bit today but still enjoyed himself, must be the post-run hot chocolate he gets.
nextphase I'm now wearing long sleeved tops on an evening run. I'll add a vest when it gets cooler and then a high visibility vest and gloves in winter.

Well done nearlyreadytopop. I remember completing that session and beginning to feel like a runner. It's a good achievement.

Sorry you didn't enjoy your run cinnamon. When is your half-marathon?

DramaAlpaca · 14/09/2013 23:03

Hi everyone, I'm finally back running again after over a week off with a nasty, chesty cough.

I think the break did me good. I decided to do my come-back run on the treadmill (I had only a short window of time to get it done yesterday) and it was great. I ran for 35 minutes (my longest run so far) at a faster speed than I've done before, and covered 5K in my workout for the first time. So I'm well pleased.

BIWI just seen you've graduated - congratulations! And well done scarecrow on your Park Run.

nearlyready I've just invested in a Shock Absorber (after my boobs shrunk from losing weight from running Sad) and I'm very happy with it. Nothing moves! Well done on the 20 minutes, btw!

scarecrow22 · 15/09/2013 03:38

watching I did go to sweatshop, yes. But what discount voucher??! I would dearly have loved one as bought new shoes Had gait analysed after 7 Yeats and 2 kids and it is different (had been told this is not uncommon post dc)

scarecrow22 · 15/09/2013 03:40

drama glad you are better. Great run. Sounds like your body needed rest
