Well done DawnDonna that's great. Hi MegTheCat, glad you've delurked!

I had a disaster of a run last night, my first really bad one. I felt heavy and slow & could barely lift my feet off the ground. I almost gave up after about five minutes, but managed to struggle on for 30 minutes, doing more walking than running but at least I got a workout.

Everything went wrong - went out too soon after eating, forgot my stopwatch, wore new socks that made my feet slip in my shoes, and was out at dusk near the lake where there were so many clouds of midges I was breathing them in!

I found out why it went so badly when I woke up this morning with a stinking, rotten cold Sad. So I'm going to take it easy for a few days before I go out again. It's the usual back to school lurgy - DS3 came home with a cold & has generously shared his germs with the whole family.

MsVestibule · 05/09/2013 22:22

Iwearblack, why, thank you for asking! I did my second run yesterday, but inadvertently repeated W1D1 Blush. So I'll skip W1D2 and be brave by going straight to R3 tomorrow. DD(6) is desperate to accompany me on her bike, so I've promised her she can come with me on Sunday. Not sure I really want her shouting at me to keep up, though...

Drama hope you're on the mend soon. For the sake of the rest of your family, I really think you should quarantine yourself away in bed for a few days with a large flask of hot toddy and some crap magazines Smile.

DramaDragon · 05/09/2013 22:31

Thanks MsV. I'd love to stay in bed for a few days but I can't take a day off work because they've just changed their sickness policy so if I don't go in I won't get paid . I'll just go in tomorrow & sneeze all over them all DH is making me a hot toddy as we speak, so at least I'll sleep tonight Grin!

Sorry all, name change alert - I am the new incarnation of DramaAlpaca thanks to the recent dragon thread. I quite fancy being a dragon for a while!

cinnamongreyhound · 06/09/2013 13:35

I wondered if I may be the same DramaDragon as my legs felt like they weighed about 10st each on Wednesday night but I'm fine so far!

I think all the runs are the same for each week for the first few MsVestibule so you'll be fine :)

How do I make sure I don't run too fast at the start of the parkrun when the fast runners go and then I will be shattered and have to stop?
Have run 3 miles 4 times and im worried that I wont make the full 5k tomorrow.

ThePonyFormerlyKnownAsTony · 06/09/2013 16:06

Hi all, Am I allowed to join this thread despite not actually following the C25K app?
I'm far too impatient for the app but ran my first 5k today. In 38 mins. I know it's slow but I feel so good that I actually did it!

I mostly do interval training so a bit of distance was actually really satisfying.

Good luck to everybody doing the C25K, keep up the good work.

(Sorry if you actually do have to be a C25K-er to be on here, just wanted to spread my excitement!!) Grin

cinnamongreyhound · 06/09/2013 17:11

Set yourself somewhere near the back muddyprints and if you can go faster then speed up a bit. That way you save being overtaken as you slow (which I personally find demoralising! Would rather be doing the overtaking).

You are very welcome ThePonyFormerlyKnownAsTony!! I did do the c25k but it was about 18 months ago now. Well done on your 5k, 38m is respectable and gives you something to improve on :)

Felt like a pro today - running in the rain! Week 2 r1 felt better than week 1....

BIWI · 06/09/2013 20:15

I've given up with my GetRunning app - problems with the sound card on my phone, and it keeps stopping the app! So I ran using Map My Run today, and decided to go for the whole 30 minutes. In the end I ran 5.05km, in 30.33 minutes, which I'm really pleased with. Overall pace was 6.03 minutes, although apparently I ran the first km at a pace of 4.57, which I find a little hard to believe.

It was raining and also warm - I made the mistake of wearing my running jacket, and I could really have done without it, especially as the rain stopped after about 10 minutes!

So having given up the app, I'm planning on just doing 30 minute runs now, and seeing how far I get each time.

muddyprints · 06/09/2013 21:18

thanks cinnamon, definitely be hiding near the back Smile
just dreading being lapped as its only a mile course, oh well.

MsVestibule · 06/09/2013 21:23

Me too black! I was running round the park getting soaking wet but proudly telling myself that only real runners run in conditions like this.

I'm going to have to get a running jacket with a hood to protect my goes-frizzy-in-the-rain hair. Any recommendations? Or are they all much of a muchness? Do I need a different one for winter and summer?

FoundAChopinLizt · 06/09/2013 21:24

MsHall

You can get running hats?

MsVestibule · 06/09/2013 21:25

Oh, and I've just discovered that my 'free' app only covers the first 4 runs Angry. Do they all to this, or are there any free ones that cover the full 8 weeks?

Iwearblack · 06/09/2013 21:32

I use the NHS one - free for all weeks. Music is a bit dull but Laura is very encouraging!

watchingout · 06/09/2013 21:39

9 weeks, MsV Wink

cinnamongreyhound · 07/09/2013 07:18

Ours is only two laps muddyprints so the only time I've been lapped is when I did with ds1 as the second lap has a slightly different finish. If you do it in 30min you're doing a 10 min lap/mile at our park run fastest finisher has been 18mins so 6min lap if its a similar speed course, nothing to be ashamed of being lapped by someone doing that pace :)

Dawndonnaagain · 07/09/2013 10:55

Couldn't fit a go in yesterday, so will be doing it today. The aim is to keep going if I can, if I can't I'l just split it into two again. Desperate to do it because had a crap diet day yesterday!

Dawndonnaagain · 07/09/2013 12:44

Did it. I am now a large blob of wobbly jelly!

scarecrow22 · 07/09/2013 13:14

Hello - been off line feeling a bit meh about hip etc. been running every third day instead of second and finally today I did 5.3k with just a shadow DC the pain (slight discomfort max) so huge improvement. Still having to take it easy, but very cheered by this.

drama hope you feel better soon (and Judy I think). Also interested to hear how drama and baking tins get on with post c25k run plans....

My birthday in a few weeks and DH offered to buy me a Garmin GPS watch (they start at £99) which measures distance as well as time etc.. I don't have a watch or iTouch/phone etc so currently borrow DH's or guess! Does nobody use one? Are they good?

scarecrow22 · 07/09/2013 13:15

dawn go girl! Well done Smile

scarecrow22 · 07/09/2013 13:15

Shadow of the pain (sorry)

muddyprints · 07/09/2013 14:25

did my first park run Grin
was lapped loads of times but kept plodding on.
felt amazing after! Waiting for time now.

cinnamongreyhound · 07/09/2013 15:37

Well done Dawndonnaagain and muddyprints, let us know your results :)

That sounds very positive scarecrow22! Garmins are the best for what they do, just have a good look around to find the one you like as there are lots with all sort of functions and they vary dramatically in size.

I didn't run today, couldn't be bothered and regretted it about 5 mins into my dog walk! RD didn't have enough volunteers so I volunteered and then ended up with loads so I could have run grrrr!

Hoping to do 10miles tomorrow :)

Well done dawndonnaagain! And muddyprints! Bet you are both feeling very proud ThanksThanks

pennygallops · 07/09/2013 18:57

Evening everyone. We had a lovely crisp and sunny morning for the parkrun today (and it had rained all day yesterday). DD (9) ran with me and for the first time she ran the whole 5k - no walking! However, she chatted all the way, except for last 400m when she sprinted past people. We finished in about 35mins. DS seems to have shaken off his jet lag and found it easier this week.

Tomorrow I am taking part in our local 10k event. It marks my one year of running. Grin DC are doing the 3k fun run.
