ScareCrow

We got dd a Garmin for her bday and she loves it! It is useful while she is running and also good for keeping records of your training. It connects to the computer so we can see where she's been. Like an ASBO tag She hasn't used the heart rate bit yet.

FoundAChopinLizt · 07/09/2013 21:00

I didn't run today as overdid the Wine last night. See drunk threadBlush

So am going tomorrow after early night.

muddyprints · 08/09/2013 09:26

got time, 31.42, really pleased for first time and had only run 3 miles twice before. going to keep practicing and have another go in month or so. Smile

sassytheFIRST · 08/09/2013 10:02

Hi all, not doing c2 5k but starting to run regularly again after long period without (several years!). hope I can join you!

Have run 5 times now - was pleased with the last 2 runs as I finally kept going to 5k with a v slow time of 40 mins, then yesterday I ran 2 miles in 21.30 - first sustained running at under 11min per mile. And yest was the 1st time I didn't feel the need to walk at any point, tho there was some s-l-o-w jogging at times. Will run again on thurs, aiming for under 40mins for 5k, building in some sprints to raise my overall speed.

Feels great to be running again. Nothing like it for raising the endorphins Grin

Dawndonnaagain · 08/09/2013 10:05

Thank you all!
I was wondering what was safe and sensible to do on the 'inbetween' days. Everything I've read says that (at least initially) you should only be doing c25k every other day. I wouldn't stick at anything like aerobics or 30 day shred. Just wondered if it's okay to do a bit of brisk walking inbetween?

CiderwithBuda · 08/09/2013 10:05

Impressed with all of you who are doing park runs and 10ks!

I did my W2R2 run on Thursday and it was fine. Was supposed to do R3 yesterday but got a severe case of bum stuck to sofa-itis so didn't. Blush. Will do R3 tomorrow as I want to get back to running mon/wed/fri.

Dawndonnaagain · 08/09/2013 10:06

Oh, and have lost a pound and a half this week! Considering I had a bad week, I'm chuffed to pieces!

cinnamongreyhound · 08/09/2013 12:53

Hope your 10k goes well today pennygallops!

That's a great time muddyprints!! Well done!

Welcome sassytheFIRST!

Well done Dawndonnaagain.

That's a nasty disease Ciderwithbudda Wink

Wow Cinnamon well done. I can't imagine there ever being a time when I can run ll miles!

cinnamongreyhound · 08/09/2013 13:28

I started the same as you though Dawndonnaagain, c25k then slowly building up. Had never run before and was 15st when I started. Anyone can do it if you make the time and get through those tough runs :)

pennygallops · 08/09/2013 13:30

Did the 10k in 1hour 1min and 24secs - little disappointed that I didn't go under an hour.

The DC enjoyed the 3k. DD managed to run by herself - that's progress.
We are all now wearing our T-shirts and medals. Grin

Bakingtins · 08/09/2013 13:57

Well done Cinnamon and penny. Personally I think just running the 10k / 11 miles is fantastic, never mind how long it took.
Dawndonna I'm sure walking on the in between days is fine, the idea is just to give your joints and muscles time to recover, particularly if you are starting from the couch, so I'm sure something active but not too strenuous is ideal. The NHS has a series of "strength and flex" podcasts which are designed to complement C25k and might be worth a look - on the website.

LizzieVereker · 08/09/2013 14:08

Well done pennygallops and DCs, and Cinnamon !

I'm in the final week now, but had a rubbish run today, got a weird dead foot half way round, so had to walk some bits. I'm really disappointed as I was really looking forward to a good run today. I'm back at work now, so am finding it harder to fit the time in in the week.

But never mind, I'll keep trying, am determined not to give up Sad

MsVestibule · 08/09/2013 21:53

Thanks for the suggestion of a running hood, chopin. So much running paraphernalia needed! Thinks it's a must, though.

Iwearblack I have an iPhone, and due to an argument between Adobe and Apple, Flash Player can't be loaded onto any iPhones (according to DH who knows about these things). Can anybody recommend another free C25k app? It's not that I'm too tight to pay £1.99 (honest), but I can't load any paid for apps for another couple of weeks.

MegTheCat · 08/09/2013 21:59

Hello all. I did W8R1 today. I really enjoyed it and the W7R3 was good as well. I don't know if it's because I've been reading Born to Run and it has suddenly clicked that running can be fun - or because I'm back at work and after 10 hours sitting in the car and at a desk I am just raring to go. It is going to be harder to fit the runs in now though.

Also today's run was 5.46k (including the warmup and cooldown) so I might be ready to have a go at park run... I want to be sure I can actually do 5k before I try it. Next run I will try just using mapmyrun for the running bit.

Ms Vestibule - the ZenLabs app covers the full C25k and is free

MegTheCat · 08/09/2013 22:02

...I don't know if it uses flashplayer though

watchingout · 08/09/2013 23:00

Do podcasts need flash player? I think most iPhone users download the nhs podcasts for free. Sorry if that already been covered /tried.

MsVestibule · 08/09/2013 23:33

Thanks meg, I've downloaded the Zenlabs app.

Watching according to the NHS website, you need to download Flash Player. I've looked a bit further into it, and read that if you download a podcast app, I could then search for the NHS c25k podcast??? Honestly, technology and me don't mix!!

cinnamongreyhound · 09/09/2013 12:25

You can get the podcasts from the itunes app, just search c25k or even couch, that's what I did on my iphone but it was a while ago now!

Good news MegTheCat :)

Third one of week one completed. Did it all in one again. Sweaty Betty! Grin

watchingout · 09/09/2013 17:32

Well done DawnDonna - see how much progress you've made already Grin

My fave inspirational quote "Sweat is just your fat crying"

not saying you are fat but it's very relevant to me

pennygallops · 09/09/2013 19:26

So my colleague who I did the 10k with yesterday has suggested we try the Great North Run next year. My question is to cinnamon - is it responsible stepping up to a half-marathon?
I am thinking of doing a local 10 miler in the spring - a little test for a half-marathon.

cinnamongreyhound · 09/09/2013 20:05

Responsible pennygallops?

OP posts:
Dawndonnaagain · 09/09/2013 21:08

lol, Watchingout, it's a good quote, and yep, I'm fat. I gave up smoking last year and put on a shed load, then got diagnosed with colitis and put some on with the steriods. Still, after a week with not being brilliant on the diet I still lost a pound and a half at fat club , damn pleased!

pennygallops · 09/09/2013 21:41

Sorry cinnamon I meant reasonable - multi tasking didn't pay off earlier Blush. All running is responsible in my book - it's exercise, which is essential for a healthy mind and body.
