A thread for anyone thinking of starting, doing or completed the c25k plan!

The last thread had so many new people starting and working through the plan it was lovely. As well as those who had finished and working towards faster times or greater distances. Everyone welcome no matter age, fitness or ability.

DawnDonna

Welcome, when are you going? Good luck and report back later, there are quite a few new starters on here.

CiderwithBuda · 03/09/2013 13:48

Hello. Can I come back please? I have been SO bad.

Got to end of week 3 on 1 July. Even got up early the day we were going on holiday on 4 July and did W4R1. And even though I took my running stuff on holiday I didn't actually use it. Just never go around to it. Then we got back on 30 July straight into a horrendously stressful situation with my sister and I have comfort eaten and drunk my way through August. End result I am a stone heavier than I was at beginning of July. Annoyed at myself but given the month we have had I'm surprised that was all the damage and I haven't had a complete breakdown. So school is back. DH is away. And I am getting back to normal. And need to shift this stone and get back to my running.

So this morning I planned to do W1R1 but ended up playing W2R1 instead. And I managed it ok. Not easy but ok. Note to self - dont put it off till mid day - it was hot!

I haven't read rest of thread but will try to. You lot sure talk a lot!

Hope you all well. And still running.

FoundAChopinLizt · 03/09/2013 14:02

Welcome back Cider, well done for getting back 'on track'

Having been running now for four months, I have come to the conclusion that all the setbacks like injury, illness, family stuff, are just part and parcel of being a runner. They are going to keep happening, but the trick is to not let it throw you for longer than necessary. Just start back in where you are and don't look back.

muddyprints · 03/09/2013 14:23

finished week 9 start of august, been running 30 mins couple of times a week since. doing my first parkrun Saturday and im scared.
im so red when I run and so out of breath I cant talk.
scared of looking a fool.

DramaAlpaca · 03/09/2013 16:24

Hi DawnDonna, welcome back Cider and good luck with your park run muddyprints.

cinnamongreyhound · 03/09/2013 20:07

Welcome Dawndonnaagain!

Welcome back CiderWithBudda sorry to hear you've had such a tough month :(

You won't look a fool muddyprint, you'll get a warm welcome and a cheer or well done over the line.

I did 8k last night with the dogs and we've got our timed 5k tomorrow. I was second in the points table but as I missed last months no chance of winning now :(

I am hoping to enter a 12k in October which is called run the walks and is all round training areas in Newmarket. There's then a 10miler which I want to do to prepare for my half marathon, I've prepped my mum for Childcare but its a bit of a trek so need to break it to dh!

Just had my first injury Sad. Tripped over the dog half way round a 5km circuit. No joint injuries (very fortunately as I've always had a week knee since an injury in my teens) but a massive egg on my head and lots of grazes. Walked home, with blissfully unaware dog trotting along merrily.

Ow

Got home to screaming baby who I still can't settle, so haven't had a shower yet or made any attempt to ice the egg. Need dinner too.

I'm starting my new job tomorrow. What a lovely sight I'll be!

Bakingtins · 03/09/2013 21:44

Oh dear Judy hope the head is not too bad tomorrow.

I have had a bit of a break as we were away last week but did the stepping stones run today - did think Laura was trying to kill me half way round but felt better towards the end.

How do you all manage now the nights are drawing in? I'm not a morning person so have been going out about 8pm having got the kids in bed and let my tea settle a bit, but it's nearly dark then already. Thinking of getting a treadmill for the winter, or maybe cutting back to one run a week at the weekend and doing something else? I'm planning to swim once a week whilst DS2 has his lesson, could fit in Zumba or something on an evening? I can't see me being that keen to progress to 10k etc but would like to keep up and improve on the level of fitness I've built up.

Dawndonnaagain · 04/09/2013 13:18

Judy I hope your head is better tomorrow.

I have managed my first half of the first one, today. I have done fifteen minutes with four runs on the treadmill, and will do the same later today. I don't know if you can break it up like that, eventually I'll join them up, but that was what I could manage. In my defence, apart from being a hefty size 20, it's 28 degrees here.

FoundAChopinLizt · 04/09/2013 14:14

Well done DawnDonna, you've got started! Do whatever works for you!

Bakingtins · 04/09/2013 15:51

Well done DawnDonna - taking that first step out of the door (or onto the treadmill) is the hardest bit sometimes. It doesn't matter how steadily you take it, you are still beating those still on the couch.

workatemylife · 04/09/2013 17:19

Good afternoon ! i am dropping in from the group that started on August 2nd for some advice. I love reading the stories here - a real encouragement to believe that good things will happen in the end. Can I ask what happened when / if you 'graduated' from C25k? Did you find that you could run the full five kilometres or did 30mins not quite get you there? I would love to try a parkrun but i think I'll fall short on distance at the rate I'm going. Trying not to feel too glum while wondering how to go faster. A snail might finish before me!

Judyandherdreamofhorses · 04/09/2013 17:26

Hi 'work'. I graduated weeks ago and still can't do 5k in 30 mins. I'm trying to get my 5k faster and also working on some longer distances. I make sure I do at least 5k each time I run now (except for last night when I gave up after my accident - see above!). Sometimes I'm faster than others. I have a lot of hills though, so they slow me down and I have to pace myself. I don't think I quite push myself hard enough really.

Bakingtins · 04/09/2013 17:30

Hi work I think I can do about 4.5k in 30 mins and so far I haven't tried running for a longer time. I finished a couple of weeks ago and have just started the 5k+ podcasts which work on speed/stamina.
Don't be glum - only a few months ago I was struggling to run for a whole minute! We have all made so much progress.

LizzieVereker · 04/09/2013 17:33

Hi everyone, nice to "see" you all!

Bit of a hiccup this morning, as I am starting W8, but have gone back to work so need to set out to run earlier- and realised that the park is still locked up at 6 am! So am planning on doing slightly shorter, but much hillier road runs in the week, and will continue towards graduation on the weekend. So any tips for pavement running would be much appreciated.

Drama I was planning on doing jog/ run from the beginning of C25K as you are, to improve my pace, so will be interested to hear how you get on.

Welcome Dawn - don't worry about your clothes size, I'm a lovely lump too, and had not exercised for years but got through to W7 without too much stress.

Judy - ouch! Hope you are feeling better Flowers

Iwearblack · 04/09/2013 18:13

Week 1 accomplished yeah! Thighs sore but not too bad. week 2 starts on Friday - looking forward to it (well finishing it anyway!)
How goes it MsV?

Dawndonnaagain · 04/09/2013 19:04

Thank you everyone. I can't believe that I've done it, but I have. I've run eight minutes today, okay, not together, but I have, and I've walked for 22 minutes. I'm bloody chuffed with myself. I will be sticking at week one for a while I suspect, but in a couple of weeks I hope to do the half hour in one go. Right, off for a very healthy tea!

FoundAChopinLizt · 04/09/2013 19:10

DawnDonna, keep at it, you'll soon start to feel the benefits. Keep posting and keep running Grin

cinnamongreyhound · 04/09/2013 20:04

Sorry to hear about your injury Judyandherdreamofhorses. Sounds like you went down a good un :( dozy dog I'm sure Wink

I just run around the streets in the winter bakingtins. Not looking forward to it.

Well done Dawndonnaagain, its a good start :)

It took me 4 months to brave a full 5k workatemylife and it took me 34mins. I had been running 30mins 3x a week until then. Definitely do a parkrun though, I did with my ds two weeks ago and we finished in 50mins and were cheered over the line!!

Did the last of our 5k time trial runs today and I beat my time again my on pb for 5k is now 26m31 :)

Well done DawnDonna! It's brilliant when you realise you can do it, isn't it? Grin

MegTheCat · 05/09/2013 13:15

Just de-lurking to say hello. I started C25K a year ago and kept having to stop and start again (eg when I got ill). I had at one point got to the end of W6 but then had a few months off. As I hadn't run for a while I decided to start at the beginning again in July as I was off work for the summer holidays and would have time to run every other day. I discovered this thread about the same time and have been dipping in now and then. It has been really helpful, thankyou! you are all so encouraging.
I did W7R2 yesterday. It was really hard but I managed to keep going even though I felt quite sick at the end. Thanks to whoever recommended Born to Run - I got it from the library yesterday and had just started dipping into it before my run. Definitely inspiring.

FoundAChopinLizt · 05/09/2013 13:29

Hi all, managed to do short run this am, even though it as raining and I'd already had the dog out. So I'm well exercised. When dropping dd at school people were saying I'm skinny, but I'm the same weight as pre hols, but probably just more muscle and less fat? I actually hate being commented on, it makes me want to disappear Grin

cinnamongreyhound · 05/09/2013 14:46

Me too FoundAChopinLizt, people have finally stopped commenting on my weight loss now and it's lovely. Glad to just be me and not someone who's lost 5 1/2st :)
