A thread for anyone thinking of starting, doing or completed the c25k plan!

The last thread had so many new people starting and working through the plan it was lovely. As well as those who had finished and working towards faster times or greater distances. Everyone welcome no matter age, fitness or ability.

Join us for lots of support, advice and gentle butt kicking of required Wink

I really didn't want to do my run this evening (already postponed for two mornings!) but went, and it was fine. It was a shorter run - 3.6K I think - the first in my new 10K programme (the Runkeeper one). Once I got going, I tried to run a bit faster than usual, and think I did.

Feel much better now. Must investigate some more routes though to keep the interest up. So hard with the hills!

Bakingtins · 07/08/2013 21:10

Completed wk7r1 and managed to run the whole thing except clambering over the wretched ropes in the park, but it didn't scupper me today like last time. Chimp in box with toddler on iPad on the top ( thanks scarecrow for that image). I need to make my run a bit longer as I got to within a few hundred yards of home running and had to go past to do the warm down, but I can't see an obvious way to extend the route.
I've started to think about a graduate Tshirt (because obv I need it for w9r3) and not that impressed with the ones out there. Is anyone arty? We could have a thread Tshirt - it needs a chimp in a box, possibly with toddler on top, a snail.....

Nice to hear some post-c25k plans :)

Good to hear my heart rate makes me and athlete BIWI, not sure I am but there you go. I'm 32 so should be lowish, think my running hr is probably a bit high but not a lot I can do other than slow down and that's not going to happen if I can help it Grin

I skipped training tonight as we'd been to the zoo all day and I was knackered, would have literally had to have changed and gone back out the door leaving dh to sort dog, children and tea. Will run in the morning with doggy I think :)

Have finished week 3 and am a bit scared of the jump from 9 mins total running to 16 mins in week 4, albeit still split up into smaller runs. Eek. Any advice oh running gurus?

BIWI · 07/08/2013 22:52

Just trust the programme, Antoinette - it really works! A lot of this is in your head.

scarecrow22 · 07/08/2013 22:54

BakingTins on bad days can I borrow your toddler? Two should def keep that chimp in the box Grin

Re t-shirt, it also needs a "Warning: running can be highly addictive" on it! I'd buy one. My bank statement tells me it's months once I bought myself anything except running shoes and a bf bra.

Bakingnovice · 07/08/2013 22:56

Antoinette just trust the programme. The best advice I got here was to keep moving through the weeks.

Next - maybe we can support each other through CC? Start another thread maybe? I could do with the support. And well done on the 5k speed. You must already have a good pace.

Tina - hope you recover soon. Really inspired by your loss so far.

Good luck to everyone else. Love reading the stories.

amigababy · 07/08/2013 23:16

I would CC too I'm on MFP. I started another thread tonight in weight loss, about reverse dieting. So you have 700 Cal breakfast, 500 lunch and 200 dinner. In a test, people lost 17 pounds in 12 weeks, compared to 7 pounds for a more usual 1400 calories plan.

So I think I could do that, I love breakfasts of all meals. After a morning run of course!

and Antoinette trust the program and keep a slow pace, don't go too fast. < embrace the snail >

watchingout · 07/08/2013 23:29

Antoinette - don't look at what next week brings! You know you are going to have to allow 30-35 mins, so head out the door and listen to Laura with no prep. Ignorance is bliss Wink

Bakingtins · 08/08/2013 08:11

scarecrow on any day you like you can borrow my toddler, and his big brother Grin

antoinette trust the programme. It is such a great feeling to be daunted by the prospect and then finish the run. 7 weeks ago I was truly struggling to run for one minute and yesterday I did 25. You can do it, just like thousands of others have before you. It pushes you just a bit further each time, so you are always pushing yourself and increasing your stamina. Listen to Laura, take it steady but keep going.

BIWI · 08/08/2013 08:20

... and agree, it definitely gets easier each time.

scarecrow22 · 08/08/2013 08:53

Tins ditto my toddler Grin but so far not het baby brother who us angelic. Give hum a year or so and I'll do a bogof Wink

did w7r1 today. I remember being in awe of people on w7 when I started! Going to do my own compilation for next 25m outing. I'd like to put a tribute Tins track in there. BIWI also close to us I think??

cinnamongreyhound · 08/08/2013 08:58

My dh has a friend who swears by carb back loading, you keep carbs low all day and can then have what you like in the evening, after 5 I believe.

Sorry to bore those who've been here a while but for those who are new I lost 5 1/2 st over 8 months and have maintained for a year now using mfp (don't log anymore). I totally believe if you know what you use calorie wise and are honest about what goes in and it's less than you're using you'll lose weight. Mfp is very easy to use and it means you don't have to deprive yourself, make informed choices in what you eat and if you have a treat just eat a smaller tea or have a single slice of bread in your sandwich that day or go for a run so it balances. I don't believe in fads as they're not sustainable but cc is. I'm not on 1700-1800 a day and if I run 5 miles I can have a splurge!

Very impressed at your weight loss cinnamon!

What was your daily calorie allowance while losing? And now? MFP gave me a target allowance of 1210 per day before i started c25k and I often don't eat that, but I'm still not losing, even with the exercise Hmm

Dingle · 08/08/2013 10:18

Hi everyone, just trying to play a bit of catch up as I have been AWOL for almost a week! I struggled on W9R1 last Thursday then came down with a bug and have done nothing since then, until last night!

I was a bit anxious and not sure whether or not to just carry on where I left off but decided to just go for it. I walked at 4.5, but did manage to plod along at 5mph for the full 30mins....covered 3.2 miles and burnt 380 calories.

I go on holiday on Saturday and had set myself a target of 10st 7lb, I was pleasantly surprised this morning when I weighed in at 10st 7.5lb. That's a loss of 13.5lb since starting C25k.

MFP gives me a daily calorie target of 1200 but my TDEE comes out as 1906 so I try to keep between 1200-1700 a day.

Question is.....what happens on my hols?

Keep running ladies, I will backtrack and see how everyone is getting on! xx

LizzieVereker · 08/08/2013 10:34

Hello everybody- I did W2 R3 today, it's getting a bit easier! Thanks to those who advised me to slow my pace a bit, that helped. I think I was doing crazy running like Phoebe in Friends before.

Am still in awe of you all in the later weeks, but am determined to get there!

BIWI · 08/08/2013 10:42

As someone who bores for Britain all too regularly on the subject of low carbing Grin I won't be joining you on any calorie counting. Too obsessive for me.

Dingle - I amazed myself by not only taking my running kit with me on holiday, but actually using it! I went for two runs during the week I was away. I felt very virtuous I can tell you.

Lizzie - you will get there. Just trust the programme. It really does work.

amigababy · 08/08/2013 11:14

lizzie I love Friends references (explains everything in life!)

dingle hope you can have a go on holiday. I'm going to try. The heat will be hard, even at 6 a.m. But it is very flat where I'm going so that's good, and I've pre-measured 2 5km routes that are ideal for me. So fingers crossed. And well done on the weightloss.

I repeated week 9 today, my ongoing plan through August. It's getting easier. You Know how you can drive somewhere and not always be aware of parts of the drive. That happened a bit today running. Which means I wasn't thinking. Or worrying about it Smile

Dingle · 08/08/2013 12:48

I'd love to have a go running on holiday, only going to Devon so I won't have to worry about the heat! Hmm Well no more tan I have done at home!
BUT I am a TM runner,EEK, could I run outside, on my own?

BIWI · 08/08/2013 12:50

Of course you can! And just think of all that lovely scenery!

Judyandherdreamofhorses · 08/08/2013 13:27

Where are you going in Devon Dingle? Maybe you can join me for a scenic (hilly!) run!

Dingle · 08/08/2013 13:35

We are not far from Clovelly! EEK, HILLS!! I am a TM plodder! LOL

AntoinetteCosway · 08/08/2013 13:35

Ok, will trust Laura! Thanks all.

BIWI · 08/08/2013 14:05

Find a flat bit, Dingle, and just keep running that bit!
