The last thread had so many new people starting and working through the plan it was lovely. As well as those who had finished and working towards faster times or greater distances. Everyone welcome no matter age, fitness or ability.

I haven't got a c25k t shirt yet I'm struggling to justify 17 quid when my current, perfectly good wicking shirt was £4...

Owwww I'm stiff tonight (and have been most of the day) definitely need to keep a rest day in between runs as I've just done two days on the trot and now I'm paying for it Hmm

I never thought I would be looking for places to run, but I've been scoping out locations as DH has been driving me round the island today. Think I may ask him to drop me off down the other end in a couple of days so I can do some flat bits. Who'd have though it eh?

amigababy · 06/08/2013 22:19

watching - me too - Smile - planning routes for when I'm on holiday (will be v hot though) and also near work, in case I fancy an after-work run before I get home, a change of scenery. As you say, who'd have thought it. New challenges though...

I treated myself to some new jogging pants and sports bra as a graduation present.

And these :)

Welcome to all new starts. Congratulations on all those who are about graduated.

I tried w8r1 last night and only managed 18 minutes of the jog!

Went out tonight with my friend and did the 28 minutes. Last night was much warmer and the chimp just wouldn't go away.

Judyandherdreamofhorses · 07/08/2013 07:44

Oh bugger. I wimped out again. I can run this evening though, and the first one in my 10k programme is really short.

Baby DS was a terrible sleeper, but improved a few months ago. Now seems to have lapsed again, or, at least, I've forgotten how to cope with it. Coffee in bed again. I do all the getting up at night, so DH has to make me coffee.

I talked to him about his weightloss, by the way. He's lost loads (now on a half marathon training programme). He says he just makes sure he doesn't eat much! Obvious really. Apparently people often put on more when they start exercising because they feel they can/ should eat more. I don't know if that's true, but it makes sense.

cinnamongreyhound · 07/08/2013 08:20

I think it is true, you feel hungrier generally. I can't eat straight after running but give me half an hour and I'm starving! The secret eaters program did a bit on good in a gym and lots of people treat themselves after they've worked out. Also as you lose weight and get fitter each workout burns less :( I average about 100 calories per 10 mins but even in the early weeks of c25k at 14st + I was burning a lot more!

How old is your ds? Mine became a nightmare at 6 months. I didn't start c25k until he was 15 months though.

I think the key to that, though, cinnamon, is to make sure that you make your workouts harder. It's tempting, as you get fitter, to be pleased that the workouts are easier! But it has to be ramped up for that very reason. It's one of the reasons I'm sticking with a personal trainer, even though it's expensive, because it helps to keep me working hard.

cinnamongreyhound · 07/08/2013 08:58

I guess generally I run further but I'm not massively bothered how many calories I burn BIWI I just enjoy running. I'm almost tempted not to enter anymore races as they stress me out and I'm just running for the love Grin

OP posts:
BIWI · 07/08/2013 09:09

I look forward to reaching that day, cinnamon! Whilst I sort of enjoy it, I can't honestly say, hand on heart, that I'm loving it. I'm doing it because of the upcoming race. I'd like to think I'll carry on, though - I can definitely see the benefit to my fitness. Even though I was pretty fit before I started, this has evidently added to it. My heart rate is noticeably lower now, which has really interested me. I have to work very hard now, on the treadmill (where I warm up with some walking) to get my heart rate up to/above 120, whereas when I first started going to the gym it was regularly up to and over 140 even without a gradient! Now I'm walking at a gradient of up to 15% before I get up to 120. (Remember I'm an old gimmer too ...)

cinnamongreyhound · 07/08/2013 09:15

Mine is still around 160-170 when I run but resting its about 55 Shock

OP posts:
BIWI · 07/08/2013 09:39

I should get myself a heart rate monitor actually, just to see what it is when I'm running.

But if I buy one of those, then I'm a committed runner, aren't I?!

Resting heart rate at 55 is very good. Not sure what mine is, because it only shows on the treadmill after I've been walking for about a minute.

BIWI · 07/08/2013 09:41

Looks like however old you are cinnamon you are an athlete!!!

nextphase · 07/08/2013 10:13

BAH, miss athlete by 1bpm!
BIWI - just sat at work, counting pulse in my wrist, with an online stopwatch. Got to 60bmp.
Can hit 110 swimming. Not measured after a run - I'll have done the cool down before I get to a watch tho, so not sure it will be accurate?

Imagine its quite high tho!!!!

watchingout · 07/08/2013 11:09

Just done mine and scared myself. Until I realised I was looking at men's chart Confused
Still not impressed with "average" of 77bpm though. Just had a bit of a row with DH - so blaming him! Grin Will try again when calmer.
Thanks for the link!

BIWI · 07/08/2013 11:22

Just been out for W7/R2 - forgot my headphones so had to run the full 25 minutes without any music! Despite that, it wasn't too bad. Hot though. I definitely felt better than last time.

workatemylife · 07/08/2013 13:11

Just a quick wave to say hello! I'm posting on the 'starting August 5th' thread but since some of you have been lovely to come and introduce yourselves, I thought I'd read through your stories.

I was tempted to give up and walk home today but stuck at it, finished the session, and felt a whole lot better. It is so good to know that there are lots of other people doing exactly the same thing, and really encouraging to hear from those near the end of the programme that it is indeed possible. Fired up by news of your achievements I've put a big circle around a Saturday on the calendar about 8-9 weeks away in the hope that I can trot round a Park Run and celebrate completing the plan.

scarecrow22 · 07/08/2013 14:31

Welcome work, and Grin at your name!

Bakingnovice · 07/08/2013 18:11

Scarecrow my heels ached too. Gel inserts in the heel have helped enormously. Find them on amazon.

I'm doing my 5k runs now. Enjoying it but on hot days its a struggle. Really trying to build up the courage to do my first park run this sat.

My next big goals are to do park run, run 5k three times a week, restart the shred on rest days which I haven't done for 4 weeks and then start calorie counting. I haven't focused on diet as I wanted to get the running sorted first. I've cut back on food but now feel like its time to CC to lose this stubborn stone. Oh, and I would be completely over the moon if I managed to run on holiday this year.

nextphase · 07/08/2013 20:19

Well, I got the trainers back out, decided I'd take it easy, so did the flatter route, and turned back at the point I was getting to weeks ago rather than all the way to the pub.
I can't have taken it that easy, as I did the whole 5km in 34 mins (5 walk, 24 run, 5 walk!).

So, thats my decision made. I'm going to try and walk 5, run all the rest, with the aim of getting that under 30 mins.

Baking I've just done the maths for how much I need to loose to get my BMI back into normal. I'm with you on the calorie counting.....
Then I'll think about getting back to pre baby toddler preschooler weight.

scarecrow22 · 07/08/2013 20:25

thanks bakingnovice, not heard of them but they sound the business! Will investigate tomorrow.

scarecrow22 · 07/08/2013 20:28

on the weight / body chat, curiously dropped a jean size, thwn lost a half stone. Actually more pleased about the jeans, though still two more to go!! To me that denotes toning and weight loss, which must be most sustainable. I'm still having too many treats, but trying to limit them a bit and is offset by fact that I am eating healthy.meals and not drinking and am ebf still.

TinaSurrey · 07/08/2013 20:33

Just catching up on all your news. Everyone is doing so well. I love reading the c25k threads!
