running bottoms with phone pocket

I've signed up for a 5k run next weekend - so far have got up to running for 25 mins and can still sprint at the end - when I started two months ago 3 minutes seemed like torture! (I'm fairly fit as I cycle and swim but had always loathed running)

anyway I've been running in my pilates trousers which are a) too hot and b) too flappy so have decided to treat myself to some 'proper' running bottoms - what's the most flattering style and most importantly they must have a pocket where I can stash my iphone

I am 50 (still haven't got used to saying that ..), 5'7", an 'easy' size 12 (in that most size 12s are comfortably loose but size 10 would be too tight) and with what I'd charitably describe as muscular legs (but in a less charitable mood would say chunky)

any suggestions gratefully received :)

Yes I was looking for a pair with a zip pocket at the back, Sweaty Betty seemed to have quite a few, I just don't live near one to check them out...

Tk maxx is your friend. They have loads. Generally round the £13- £15 mark with a zipped back pocket in several styles. Go and have a look. I have too many pairs, but run most days, so the fact they don't cost the earth is a good thing.

I just got some in SportsDirect as mine were too warm. Come to just below the knee, black with a tiny bit of pink detail, really stretchy, and most importantly has a small zip back pocket which fits phone, key and a couple of £s. They were £7 reduced from £25.
There were loads to choose from and styles and prices to suit all.

Most don't have pockets for iPhones, but you can buy a sleeve pocket, or a belt type pocket

cece · 21/06/2013 22:18

You can get a pair of karrimor ones from sports direct with pockets in.

My DH has a strap on thing to hold his iphone when he runs. It goes on his arm. Here

cece · 21/06/2013 22:23

Lots to chose from here

The zip on the back of most bottoms will not fit an iphone/ galaxy etc for them you will need an armband as shown above.

TBH the pockets are normally pretty rubbish, enough for two keys and a couple of pounds and that's it.

I wear mens running tights outdoors because they are not as tight in the thigh as womens (I have rugby players legs) pocket is not big enough for a phone though.
I either leave it at home or wear a very small camelbak backback

RussiansOnTheSpree · 21/06/2013 23:16

I hate wearing those armbands. I got a horrible sore on my arm from using one. I use a sort of bumbag belt - you can get them in different sizes, mine just fits my iPhone and my keys snugly. It works really well.

YoniRanger · 21/06/2013 23:21

Nike dri fit straight legs are your friend.

Flattering, non sweaty, nice pocket in the back for an I phone.

Wolfiefan · 21/06/2013 23:24

You need to visit workplay bags. They do a great bumbag type thing that honestly doesn't move at all when you run.

lucamom · 21/06/2013 23:43

A couple of months ago I got a pair from sainsbury's with an internal phone pocket, for £12. Might be worth checking your local store (I'm a 14 and they were quite 'sucky-inny' so looked ok on my big butt.

basildonbond · 22/06/2013 10:10

Those sound good yoniranger - do you have a link to the specific ones you mean?

Thanks for all the suggestions btw

My Nike ones from tks have a phone pocket in the back but the phone makes them pull down! Nightmare! I use an armband or bumbag

I think these are the same as mine, they have a draw cord waist to stop the slipping down issue.

Sports direct stock the whole range in their shops for a tiny bit less than Nike.

My HTC wildfire just fits into the back pocket of most of my running capris so no chance an iphone would fit. TBH I often just pop my phone into my bra. Smile
