Those blister plasters are amazing!

amigababy · 14/07/2013 16:02

well done BIWI. Enjoy week 6.

good luck next week Sarah. A couple of friends just finished the Leeds 10k, well done to them in this heat. Interestingly, one requires high level fitness for his job, one is a mum like me. Their times were only 25 minutes different, just shows us regular runners aren't so far off the near elite Smile

Chopstheduck · 14/07/2013 17:08

Watchingout, I would really recommend anti blister socks too. I've not had a blister since getting some nike ones. Before, I got a huge one along the arch of my foot.

Bakingnovice · 14/07/2013 17:08

Well done biwi ! You will be in a high all day now.

So, after my interim random run last time because I forgot my iPod, I finally did w6r1. Found it really tough, in fact the first time I've wanted to just stop. I struggled to do the 8 min run. Felt my chest was going to explode. I don't know if this is because I'm in the middle of a period? It was horrible. But I finished and feel great now. Through the run I just kept repeating 'you've run 20 mins straight! Do not give up!!' Again and again. Am sure TOM was to blame.

Hope you all survive the heat. W6r2 on tues.

hairtwiddler · 14/07/2013 17:19

Sarah, I'm doing race for life next week and I am also worried about the heat. I'll be wearing a pink cowboy hat, and carrying water. Hoping it won't be too bad... But I'm rubbish in heat.

TinaSurrey · 14/07/2013 18:45

Bakingnovice - that description of feeling like your chest was going to explode sums up exactly how I felt when running yesterday. Strangely doing the same run as you. I've not had that feeling before. I don't have my period to blame it on. Was thinking it must just be the heat? Not sure if its in my head but there have been odd moments during today where I have felt a bit breathless too?

Really hoping its cooler tomorrow morning!

Bakingnovice · 14/07/2013 18:54

Tina I don't think I can blame the heat as I did it v early on my TM which is in the garage. Our garage is v cool in the mornings. I just felt like my bra was squeezing my chest and it was going to explode. I'm sure I read up thread that this particular run is really tough.

I'm particularly achy today too and feel absolutely knackered. I hate to say this, but I'm also suck to death of the heat! Even the kids won't play out in it anymore. We are all sat indoors with the blinds closed, windows open and tv on.

Dingle · 15/07/2013 08:47

Both DH and myself did W6R1 on Saturday and really struggled, we run in the garage on a TM but despite opening doors/windows, there was just no breeze blowing through and boy, was it a scorcher.

Due to run again today but I will have to leave it until later on this evening now as I am working this afternoon and it's already too hot.

DigWeedSow · 15/07/2013 09:58

Hello, a long time lurker here wondering if I can join in. After following this thread for a while and being inspired by you all I am now up to week 5. Really struggled with the heat during R1 this morning, not sure how I'll cope with the dreaded W5R3 later on in the week!

spaceal · 15/07/2013 10:25

Hi all. I've been lurking and popping with questions occasionally and now I have another question.

I've basically got to the end of the programme and am running about 4k in about 30 minutes (yay!) but I was wondering about rest days.

I ran on Sunday morning at 8am and, because of how the week is panning out, it'd be really helpful if I did another run tonight (at about 8pm). That would be 36 hours between runs - do you think that's good enough for a rest day?

I can't go out tomorrow morning or tomorrow evening and I'm struggling to run during the day because of the heat, so if I don't go tonight then it won't be till Wednesday night.

I kind of think tonight will be OK but wondered what some of you experienced people thought. Thank you!

Chopstheduck · 15/07/2013 10:58

spaceal I'd go for it, sounds fine to me :)

DramaAlpaca · 15/07/2013 11:01

Hi DigWeedSow!

We're at the same stage - I have to do W5R1 this evening or tomorrow. I'm glad it's a bit cooler here today - W4R3 nearly finished me off the other day!

spaceal · 15/07/2013 11:25

Thanks chop!

hairtwiddler · 15/07/2013 11:32

Hi space
I think you'll be fine - take it easy and maybe leave two days until next run.
You are at a similar stage to me. I also recently finished and am now doing 5k improver's prog. The hills section I did yesterday was tough! There's a link lower down if you would like a look.

spaceal · 15/07/2013 11:55

Thanks hairtwiddler - having a two-day rest afterwards sounds like good advice and would work well.

I saw your link to the improvers' programme - it looked quite tough! I think I'm going to keep going with adding a few minutes to my run each week, and trying to get closer to 5k. My goal was fitness really, and running for 30-40 mins 3 times a week is good enough for me Smile I've got no great ambitions to run fast or get to 10k (yet!)

DigWeedSow · 15/07/2013 12:44

Hi Drama

Good luck with W5R1, I didn't find it too bad it was just the heat that got to me. Hopefully we'll be able to offer each other some moral support for the big one later this week Smile

DramaAlpaca · 15/07/2013 12:52

The big one... gulp!

Really kicking myself today Hmm I just couldn't keep going on w7r1 this morning and I don't know why. I was giving myself severe talking to from about 5 mins in but bottled out at around 13/14 min stage. And I did this run last week! Grr.

Had another short burst on the way home but nothing to speak of.

So try again tomorrow ( as I only did about half) or leave normal rest day and boot backside out on weds morning?

So Angry with myself

hairtwiddler · 15/07/2013 16:59

Don't kick yourself. I had a run like that in week 7. Got a stitch, walked home feeling rubbish. Next run was back in track. No reason for it, just a bad run .

Chopstheduck · 15/07/2013 17:30

watchingout I would have the rest day as normal and try again on weds. It does happen though, don't beat yourself up about it. :)

TallyGrenshall · 15/07/2013 19:58

Well I was going to go out to start wk2 (had to go to Scotland so no runs since Tuesday) but my brothet just called and his girlfriend might finally be in labour so I have to stay in now cos I'm taking them to hospital Grin
I might start wk1 again on Wednesday, or I might just go for wk2. I can't decide

watchingout · 15/07/2013 20:22

Ooo a baby on the thread! Grin
Just go for week 2, go on...
Fingers crossed for a peaceful evening. Keep us posted!

pennygallops · 15/07/2013 20:35

Wow! That was a hot one! Went out with my DS for a little run - 4k, but it was so hot it took us nearly 30mins! At least my new Garmin Forerunner has arrived and I got to use it!

nextphase · 15/07/2013 21:06

Hello Ladies!

Is anyone getting "sausage" fingers when running in this heat? Mine seem to be getting big every time I run. Can get them to go down a bit by holding above my head and wiggling, but can't run and do that, so its waiting til the cool down.

Any other suggestions?

For the folks with dodgy knees - I'd been having a few twinges on my flat, paved, easy for long running times routes, so went back to my hilly, half on cinder tracks, and knee feeling much better for it. Anything in it? Or was I just slow tonight? (done that route faster with much less running!)
