nextphase I am going to be starting shortly too. Getting a new phone next week and top of my list of things to download is an app for this. Am extremely fat and unfit, but used to be very sporty, and have heard good things about this.

Welcome judyandherdreamofhorses, nearlyreadytopol and eminemmerdale and ArgumentativeAardvark!

If you can't do it on yor phone you am use map my run when you get back nextphase. Distance isn't really too much of a worry I just wanted to know because I'm a bit geeky. I got a second hand iPod for £50 and it has a Nike + app on it when I didn't want to take my phone but Im not sure you'd be able to use the podcast at the same time. I have no idea about running on the spot! I fitted around work, dh and kids by running weekends and late in the evening. When I did the c25k I ran every other day and now 3-4 times a week depending on time and I don't always have a rest day between although I do think its a good idea what ever stage you're at. I started with a small loop and did it three times, as I was running more and went further had to adjust my route.

My injury really knocked my confidence and has out me off entering a half pennygallops, but my friend wants to do it! Only 7 weeks to get from 7 miles to 13, hmmmm!!!! Eeek! Still not entered!

Well done on the marathon englishteacher78, and good luck with ttc :)

I did parkrun in 27 something so not my best but miles better than the last one since I've been injured. Will wait for official times.

Week 1 run 1 today - was much tougher than I remembered and had a tight calf after run 4 . dd came with me and easily outran me. May not have helped going on muddy tracks and hills for first one though!

Lots of Saturday running posts!

yetanotherworry - I also run the pavements and nosey at the house and gardens. So does my DS when he joins me. We play - which would you like to live in? I have taken the DC out on their bikes whilst I've done longer runs.

Glad to hear you had a good run cinnamon - gives me hope.

Well done on complete the first run lizs

I've managed to cycle about 15km today - to the parkrun and also DS's triathlon training. Knee was fine! Walking is fine. But it really hurts if start to jog (so I haven't). DD loved marshalling with me this morning.

Nextphase there's a page with a description of each week for the NHS podcasts here

Thank you all for inspiring me (dedicated lurker!) to start the plan a couple of months ago. Reading your progress and run reports helped me see I could try it too.
Just finished week 8 run 3 this morning and covered my 5th running 5km I've cheated slightly and decided go keep going to 5km after 25 mins on the second run of week 7. This was because the target distance was getting close and wanted to see how much longer it would take. Very pleased that so far it's been around 31:30!
The plan really works, couldn't believe back in March that I'd be running for 30+mins but I am and enjoying it loads! Grin

Ohh Heck. Down loaded podcast, and DH knows he's on his own after they boys are in their PJ's. The fact that DS1 won't go to sleep til late 'cause DH let him sleep for 90 mins on the sofa won't be my problem!

Wish me luck - and if any of you see a beetroot puffing round about 8pm, give me some encouragement!

It's one of the reasons I have to listen to music when I'm running, otherwise I can hear the sound of my heavy breathing!

I'm hoping to go out for a run tomorrow. My cold is almost gone, and I'm itching to get back to it. At the same time, though, I'm scared that I'm going to injure myself again. Confused

Just come back from a week in Norfolk., Took my trainers... it was blissfully flat!

Ah, flat! a word of warning to people who really get into running. The people who put out race profiles have a different concept of flat to normal people. I ran a relatively local 10km last September which is called flat - before the first km was over there was a very steep down and uphill!

nextphase and all the other newcomers - welcome, and enjoy!! englishteacher very best of luck with the prep for the half marathon. I think 13 miles is beyond me... BUT today I did my first 5k - Race for Life!

I made it all the way round without walking, and finished in just over 34 minutes - slow but steady.

Going to have a rest for the rest of the weekend then back out running one morning next week. Might sign up for another 5k later in the summer...

May I join you lovely people?

Waves to BIWI. Have not been running for so long and need to start to build up to 5K. Am thinking about putting myself back on to the Cto5K programme again. Used it before and it was v successful.

I do have asthma and may have to do some running inside on a machine if weather conditions conspire. But the running itself is good for it, certainly doesn't stop me.

So I'm startling tomorrow. Not sure where on the prog. Feels like it has been a long time!

Now I've said it. With witnesses. Shock Grin

Can I ask a quick question? I've downloaded the app but haven't started. I've run in the past but found I never loose weight running. I've lost a stone recently and have another one to go and I don't know whether to start running now or wait until I'm at goal. Has running c25k helped any of you guys shed pounds?

I'm currently exercising 3-4 times a week using shred and walking.

By the way I love reading the threads. You are all very very inspiring!

Running inside is sometimes necessary to us asthmatics. Don't worry. As for losing weight while running - you burn apprx 100 calories every 10 minutes. BUT, you may find you lose inches rather than lbs. not necessarily a bad thing. I lost a dress size while staying at roughly the same weight.

Welcome Idratherbeonthepiste. If you look at the program it slowly builds up from 1 min of running. If you are already you might like to start at week 4, if I remember that's running in 8 min sections. I'd also like to recommend parkruns - I wish I'd started doing them before I'd graduated. Lots of people walk/run the course.

I am testing my knee today with a 2K fun run that we have entered - we finish the run in our local football stadium Smile. DS will be sprinting ahead, I have to be with DD (as she is under 9), so luckily it will be a light jog (occasionally) or fast walk. I'll have ice ready for when I get home. Sad

nextphase · 02/06/2013 08:07

Well, I've done the first run (walk?)
Surprised myself at how far I went - had to add a loop at the end, when I thought I'd probably end up having to do more than a 5 min cool down.

I'm hoping to use it to help me loose weight - but then I'm currently not doing enough exercise!

Thank-you to everyone who has kept the previous C25K on the active conversations page til you kicked me into doing something about the baby toddler preschooler weight!

Well I am flagging a little at week 7. I had the best part of a week off and when I went out the other day I really struggled at 20 minutes and nearly gave up. In the end I just walked for about 2 minutes and managed to run the final 3. A bit disappointing. It was a warm morning and a different route so maybe that didn't help. I will give it another go shortly!

Well done for getting started nextphase, that's the hardest run!

Yay for your 5k fromheretomaternity!!!!! Well done, 34mins is great :)

Welcome RatherBeOnThePiste!

I lost weight whilst running bug was calorie counting at the same time. I think it helps keep the weight off as I have a lot more muscle now so my bmr is higher. Running for 30 mins is about a snickers so depends if running makes you hungry and want to eat more bakingnovice.

I think sometimes you just have a bad run fruitpastille, I remember just after I finished the plan I was struggling and aiming for 15 mins before a little walk as I just couldn't manage 30 at all!! Not sure what happened suspect it was mental for me as I no longer had a target, now I run for the love but wasn't then.

Hope all goes well today pennygallops!

I had a 40min run today, almost 7k but didn't want to go further as it was Billy's first run. He was so good, got a bit excited at couple of bikes but after that he didn't bother with any other bikes or dogs. He was at my side almost all the time, my right which is annoying as I generally run at the right of the path but very good running partner so far and he's knackered :)

Had a great morning - really lovely atmosphere! Even my DD ran in the whole 2k (in 13mins), DS was 'miles' ahead of us. My knee didn't hurt through the run, just aches a bit now (currently wrapped in an ice-pack). Going to rest it until next Saturday.

Good to hear that Billy is good running partner cinnamon.

Lovely news cinnamon! My dog is now an ultra keen running companion and a great motivator too.

I really struggled with sore legs after my ill fitting new shoes, but finally managed to run 30 mins straight. It was meant to be 25 but I was so pleased not to be sore that I just kept going.

Have booked a physio for Tues to see if he can teach me better cool down stretches. I'm so enjoying the running that I want to do it properly and I need all the help I can get!

Bakingnovice I've lost inches and some weight, it will depend on your other exercise and net calorie intake. After 10 weeks more muscles are visible and more toned so big improvement.

Well done migrant on the 30 mins. Were the shoes too loose or too tight? I think lacing mine too tight yesterday and the pavement camber gave me a blister on the inside of my foot. Sore today so just did a 4km walk.
