It's easier for me as I don't go out running. I fill my bottle up to 400mls and tuck it into a slot alongside my treadmill, I tend to take a few swigs while walking. Not quite sure how I will manage as the walking becomes less! Hmm
In this heat I have upped it to 500mls and after my 5 minute cool down I make time to drink whatever is left. x

nextphase · 08/07/2013 18:24

Nope, I don't take water with me, just a decent drink before and after.
Don't think I could cope with something else to take out with me!

queenjellybelly · 08/07/2013 18:52

I don't take water either. Read somewhere its necessary on longer distances but for 30 mins not really needed.

cinnamongreyhound · 08/07/2013 19:40

Don't give up gingerpinz, perhaps have a look around for exercises/stretches for your injury. You may only need a week or two off and that's easy to catch up on.

I drink plenty during the day if I'm running in the evening and drink at least a litre when back but I can't drink and run. I do suffer from dehydration headaches though.

yetanotherworry · 08/07/2013 20:00

I don't usually take water with me and rely on having a pint of water when I've finished my run. I ran with a bottle of water yesterday because we were running so close to midday but found it more useful to pour over myself rather than drink.

TallyGrenshall · 08/07/2013 20:55

Just back from day 2 and I've decided to trust the program cos I ran all the bits I was supposed to, I didn't cheat for a single second Smile

I'm so far behind the rest of you, I am going to use you all as motivation/inspiration Smile

ALovelyBunchOfCoconuts · 08/07/2013 21:01

tally, im doing day 2 tomorrow :) so we're at the same level. are you running every other day?

TallyGrenshall · 08/07/2013 22:13

I will be for this week but will have to jiggle runs around my shifts next week.
How far have you gone? I only done 1.4 miles tonight but half of it is uphill. I live in Norfolk, it's supposed to be flat ffs Hmm Grin

cinnamongreyhound · 09/07/2013 06:43

We are on the Suffolk Norfolk border and dh always takes the p when I mention running up a hill Grin

I bought one of those bottles you can carry whilst running (like a handle-shaped thing) and found I either forgot it Hmm or my hand got too sweaty. Now I just drink before and after my run and that seems to be OK. However I do go out before the heat of the day starts i.e. 5.30am

hairtwiddler · 09/07/2013 07:59

Slept in and missed my 6am opportunity to run in the cool! Managed to send some work off to PhD supervisors this morning though so feeling worthy enough to hit the gym at nine. Final run of c25k here I come!

queenjellybelly · 09/07/2013 08:23

Tally, you're only a couple of runs behind me after my painful knees & a couple of weeks rest & recoup I'm repeating week 2. I'm loving it but still struggling with pain & couldn't walk after my run yesterday. Had to resort to major painkillers! Apart from stairs, does seem better this morning though. I'm going to be taking it really slowly & pacing my runs further apart, probably only do 2/week with low impact gym stuff in between so I've no doubt you'll be overtaking me soon! Not about how quickly you get through, more the fact that you're doing it at all. No matter how slowly you go, you're still lapping everyone on the couch!Grin

BIWI · 09/07/2013 08:50

Very true! Grin

gingerpinz · 09/07/2013 08:51

Go hairtwiddler! Am quite jealous!

cinnamon don't worry, am not giving up completely just going to give myself a decent break before thinking about trying again since this has now happened a couple of times recently. I suspect it is probably because I run in barefoot trainers (although I always have done and wear barefoot shoes day to day aswell) and it seems to be a common thing so I probably do just need to find some strength exercises/stretches to do.

We are going away on Saturday anyway, so will just enjoy the break (with plenty of walking!) and re-assess when I get back.

ALovelyBunchOfCoconuts · 09/07/2013 09:11

Tally, the total distance I covered according to my run double app, including warm up and cool down was 2.6 miles. I do have really long legs though Grin

I already walk 6 miles a day so my legs are quite strong it's just my poor heart and lungs that feel like they're going to drop out my belly after! And the sweat!

I take a small 300ml bottle of water with me and take a couple of swigs on the walk rep and always make sure I drink loads afterwards.

hairtwiddler · 09/07/2013 10:14

Job done! Do I get a graduation ceremony?
I've stopped counting warm up and cool down walks so ran the 30mins plus another 3 for luck on a treadmill at mostly 8kmph. I think I don't get injured because I'm so slow!
4.4k covered. Onwards and upwards! Off to Aldi to celebrate!

Keep going everyone. Honestly, if I can do this, so can you. I am huge of nork (have to wear two sports bras), naturally lazy, 40 this year, overweight, and have never been fit in my life.

p.s. the numb feet issue is definitely better after proper calf stretches and loosening the shoes.

BIWI · 09/07/2013 10:31

Woo hoo, hairtwiddler! Flowers

gingerpinz · 09/07/2013 10:45

Fantastic hairtwiddler, well done!!

Bakingnovice · 09/07/2013 10:51

Hi everyone. I just did w5r3. Omg. Feeling emotional that I actually ran 20 minutes straight!!! Such an achievement for me. Running has helped massively with my very low moods. I must admit I found it more me tally challenging than physically. I was worried about being breathless and my
Knees hurting. But that was all fine, my feet hurt a bit and I kept time checking.

Feel so amazing right now. Think I will redo this week as I have found it challenging. I want to do the 20 mins again!

Tally - well done for starting.

Ginger - hope you're back at it soon.

Cinnamon and everyone else thank you for the support on this thread.

Bakingnovice · 09/07/2013 10:52

Hartwiddler - well done!!! Amazing achievement.

hairtwiddler · 09/07/2013 11:02

That 20 min run is such a confidence boost eh? Well done!
Thanks for the congrats. I had a bacon butty to celebrate Wink

FoundAChopinLizt · 09/07/2013 11:53

Just back from a very hot and hilly 5.3k! Aim was to run 35mins and achieved it. The heat does slow you down though...

Feeling great after shower and dog walk, having scrambled eggs and coffee.

My stealth gripe is that my summer crops and skirts don't fit as my hips and waist are whittling down!

FoundAChopinLizt · 09/07/2013 11:55

HairTwiddler

That first 20min run is a turning point! Well done!

FoundAChopinLizt · 09/07/2013 11:55

Sorry that was to BakingNovice...Smile

DramaAlpaca · 09/07/2013 12:45

Just adding my congrats to hairtwiddler on graduating & Bakingnovice for completing the 20 minute run.

Flowers to both of you!
