I completed w6r3 this morning and wasn't too bad... I did 4.8km so I'm nearly there!! Glad that the 'walking' sections have now stopped as I've been getting into a good pace and they just seem to get in the way IYSWM? Can't believe how far I have come in such a short space of time. It is so motivating and I'm already looking to how and what I can do after I've graduated...

watchingout · 06/07/2013 22:21

Lots of inspired and positive posters today Grin really impressed t runners going out in this heat. I sneak out first thing in the morning while its cool and no one is round

Nice plan to start looking at what comes next. I SHOULD finish the programme by end of July so im hoping for a few beach/island runs while on holiday Grin

TallyGrenshall · 06/07/2013 23:33

I've just started tonight and dear lord, I am sooo unfit. I'm sure I was running slower than I was walking Grin

DramaAlpaca · 07/07/2013 00:48

I did Week 4 Run 1 today. Glad to get it done, but it was horrendous & I struggled.

I had to drop the elevation on the treadmill from 1.5 to 1 (thank you scarecrow for that advice!) and also drop the speed, which is already very quite slow. But I was really pleased that I managed the runs, even though I really had to force myself to get through it. I used the Couch to 5k podcast today for a bit of motivation, rather than my own choice of music, & I'm not sure whether it helped or not.

It might have been the heat today that caused me so much trouble. I'm indoors on the treadmill & I have the patio door & all the windows open, but it was still roasting & I sweated buckets!

TwasBrillig · 07/07/2013 06:23

My ankle is still aching so haven't run for a few days. Suppose I ought to take it to someone really.

hairtwiddler · 07/07/2013 07:12

Well looks like my last run isn't happening today. Had a migraine last night and possibly a temperature. Feeling rubbish. Dd's bug I reckon. Oh well!

nextphase · 07/07/2013 08:32

Hair Hope your feeling better soon. Be great to have someone else graduate, but please keep coming back to get the rest of us to your level.

Look after yourself

scarecrow22 · 07/07/2013 08:37

Tally, trust the programme as we all say Smile. We'll done for starting - you have got off the couch!! You might not have been there literally, but mentally. There are quite a few of us at beginning - I've just finiahe week 2 - and it wasn't so long ago we were the new girls

scarecrow22 · 07/07/2013 08:39

Drama it might be worth playing with speed. Finding the moat comfortable stride length and rhythm might make a skilfully faster speed actually easier, iyswim. Just a thought. Can you put a fan on you too?

FoundAChopinLizt · 07/07/2013 10:04

Well done Tally, you've done the hardest bit!

I've been at this for about 3 months, and I'm finally feeling like a real runner.

Just got back from my 'long' run of the week, 30 mins, am building it by 5mins a week, aiming to do a 10k when I can comfortably run for an hour.

cinnamongreyhound · 07/07/2013 12:01

That's impressive Thistledew!

Well done amigababy and bakingnovice!

Where is dementedma? Seems like she hasn't been here since her rfl, hope she hasn't given up :(

I found that babysocksneverstayon, you get to the point where you just want to run and it is quite shocking!

Welcome TallyGrenshall! And well done for starting!

Hope you feel better soon hairtwiddler!

It is really warm DramaAlpaca! I went at 8 and wish I'd gone at 7 as it was already too hot.

So pleased to have finally got in a longish run, did 8.5k in 45 mins today it was hard but good :)

ALovelyBunchOfCoconuts · 07/07/2013 12:13

hi all was up at 7.30 this morning doing week 1 run 1again seeing as the app didn't count it. so i have done the first one twice now and it was easier the second time. back to it on Tuesday evening. its really hard in this heat tho.

i covered 2.3 miles is that good?

Dingle · 07/07/2013 12:13

Come on ladies, look at what we are achieving. It's roasting out there and we are still doing it!!!!
Drama, I run on a treadmill in our garage and although I was going to run first thing this morning, the sun is on the front of the house and the metal garage door was like a furnace. I've just opened up the garage door about a foot from the floor, then opened the dining room doors and windows in the hope that it would help a bit!

I am actually loving this, W5R1 done and really felt good despite me now glowing like a beacon. Walked at 4.5, plodded at 5mph, covered 2.5miles and burnt 309 calories.

Now I will have to raid the airing cupboard before I jump in the shower as I have just hung all my favourite bath towels out on the washing line!

Keep it up everyone, drink loads of water and give yourself a pat on the back. xxx

yetanotherworry · 07/07/2013 14:22

Just completed RaceforLife in 36 min although I nearly gave up halfway because it was just too hot and sunny. Luckily there was a water station and I drenched myself in water and kept going.

Hair, that looks an interesting program, I may give it a go although not sure about the timing to the hills. I think I already incorporate a few hills (small inclines) in my runs so will have to play around with my route a bit.

Dingle · 07/07/2013 15:03

Fantastic yetanotherworry! Well done!

hairtwiddler · 07/07/2013 15:29

Well done yetanother. Brilliant achievementGrin

nextphase · 07/07/2013 20:59

Hello ladies, how are you finding running in this heat? Out of interest, I weighed myself before and after a run, and had lost 600g. Thats about a pint of sweat, so remember to keep drinking!

If you've got past the first few weeks, what is your weakness? Laura suggested my legs would be feeling tired, but they are OK, its my lungs that are close to giving up near the end of each run.

But I have made 5km. Was out for 40 mins, and half of it was walking (w6r1), so I'm going to have to speed up, but I CAN do it!

Happy running!

gingerpinz · 07/07/2013 22:10

I'm out!! Sad Tried again tonight and did manage to go a bit longer (11 mins) before my calf got sore but just couldn't go on and had to hobble back to the car so definitely couldn't have carried on running.

Am a bit disappointed because I was so close to the end of the programme and actually wanted to run for the first time in my life! I hadn't actually planned to go tonight and was in my jammies but it was a beautiful evening and I just suddenly really felt like it. Going to just call it a day for now and get back into swimming and cycling instead and then maybe try again in a few months.

Will maybe pop in from time to time to see how everyone is getting on but for now I just want to say thanks for all the inspiration, probably wouldn't even have got this far without it!

queenjellybelly · 08/07/2013 07:00

Sorry to hear that ginger. Keep on the thread though, your swimming & cycling might help with your running when you decide to come back to it.

I've just done my first run after 2 weeks off with my poorly knee/shin/hip Shock. Really struggled to get up at 5:45am but kept remembering a quote 'whether its ten miles or one, you will never regret lacing up those running shoes & going outside'. So true! Started week 2 again and found it easier than first time, despite lingering pain. Actually found I was concentrating on not letting the pain get to me rather than on how knackered I was!

amigababy · 08/07/2013 07:53

I went for a regular hilly hike with dh yesterday, about 4 miles. and I was dead on my feet, he was practically dragging me up the hills. I think it was the heat and not sleeping so well. So I'll be re hydrating a lot, and going out early for the start of week 6. We're not used to this heat are we Smile

watchingout · 08/07/2013 13:09

Did w6r1 this morning before it got hot but still sweated buckets Hmm
Definitely being pulled along by this thread though, thank you!

Shattered now and bad head so think I need to take more water. How much do you get through (on a 30 min session) ?

amigababy · 08/07/2013 14:23

well none tbh ( water), it's something I need to think about. it was a bit cooler down the leafy lane this morning, I'm pleased I went out early.
This whole program is starting to make me think about looking after myself more overall : drinking more water, maybe losing the extra 10 pounds that I'm running round with, eating less rubbish food.
I want to do it well, its a whole new thing for me and having got this far and being 46, I can use this to stop mucking about with half asses attempts at healthy living and actually do it properly.

( probably over thinking, sorry)

amigababy · 08/07/2013 14:23

assed, not asses!

Chopstheduck · 08/07/2013 16:23

Am i the only person who doesn't take water? I can't drink and run, I usually try to make sure I have plenty before and after.

BIWI · 08/07/2013 16:46

I took water with me for the first time today, simply because even at 9.30 it was so hot! But I drank only a little of it. I usually don't need any (although I always make sure I've had a drink before I go out).

Started the dreaded Week 5 today Grin
