Peppermint I use the getrunning app. Start my music then go in to getrunning and she talks over the music or you can set it to pause while she's talking.

PeppermintPasty · 24/06/2013 20:25

Thanks Trazzle. I will give that a go. I have no doubt that I'm being a useless tech twerp Grin

Episode · 24/06/2013 20:46

Hi all finished week 2 run 3 this morning!

Is it just me or does any one else find the 2nd and 3rd run the hardest and the last two a tad easier! Mid way I feel like there's no way I will get to the 6th run then end up running a extra one or two as I don't think I've done enough.

I do know I wont be saying that for long as the runs get harder and longer!

I just mapped my run on Google and it says I only do a distance of 2.65 km... If I cant slow jog that now how will I ever be able to decent jog double that Hmm.

Does anybody here use MFP? I've just joined and I'd like to find out how you log your calorie burn for C25K!

Any 20 Day Shredders too?

Episode · 24/06/2013 20:51

eminemmerdale Snap! It is ridiculous isn't it!

I hate myself for it, hate the smell, hate the taste and never do it outside of the house (well garden). I'm actually embarrassed by it BUT why I still do it I'll never know!

I hope that as my fitness gets better and I get to the point of not being able to get any better because of smoking (iykswim) I'll get the inspiration to kick it.

watchingout · 24/06/2013 22:20

Episode and eminemmerdale - have you tried telling yourself that you can't smoke on a rest day? Then (maybe) eventually you won't want to smoke on the running days either? Just a thought..

Trazzletoes · 24/06/2013 22:21

episode I'm on MFP (traztop) and I log the running and walking separately, IYSWIM.

Am also a 30 day shredder!!! glutton for punishment

Just completed w2r2. Man that was hard going! My knees were so stiff to start with but I'm glad I persevered.

watchingout · 24/06/2013 22:24

Episode - I use MFP. I log the exercise as running/jogging 5mph. It's not that accurate but near enough compared to what map my run estimates calorie consumption as.

still haven't burned off those damn Hob-Nobs

watchingout · 24/06/2013 22:48

Nextphase, bugger I think you right! Sorry for crap information, blame the endorphin rush. I was thinking that halfway through week 4 meant that we'd done 4.5 weeks. Doh.

This is not the time or place to admit my RL job Blush suffice to say DH is pissing himself

pennygallops · 24/06/2013 22:59

Wow - lots of activity. I see that many of you are newbies and working your way through the program. Stick with it, it truly does work.

I've taken a second day of rest after my parkrun on Saturday. Planning on going on a 5k tomorrow, hoping to complete it in around 30 mins. Coming back from injury is a slow process.

cinnamongreyhound · 24/06/2013 23:08

Nice to see so many new people joining and making their way through the plan.

I didn't like to say this morning when I saw your post watchingout, we had a big discussion in the original thread about half way point!

I still haven't run, tomorrow for sure! Got a 5 miles race Friday at 7.30 quite excited :)

Anyone want to buy me a pair of these?

Grin Watching my money is on accountant, maths teacher or financial journalist!

Thanks everybody for HTC sympathy advice. Was trying NHS one as assume platform neutral but will try yours Ginger. or steal dH's iThingy and try Trazzle's fab sounding ap. Though have to say finding kids so relentless right now (adore them, blah blah) that am rather loving running in silence right now.

eminemmerdale · 25/06/2013 10:26

hang on, 4.5 weeks is half of nine weeks isn't it???

Bakingnovice · 25/06/2013 12:06

I'm another one shredding and running. Crazy right? But am sure the shred is helping me run.

Did w3r1 today. Was scared but ran 3 minutes. Fairly easily. I think the buildup was worse. Prefer this week as there's not as much stopping and starting and the time goes faster.

I haven't lost a pound but I do feel thinner.

eminemmerdale · 25/06/2013 12:53

It's definitely the scary thought when you see what you are expected to do that is worse than actually doing it!

cinnamongreyhound · 25/06/2013 13:06

Yes it is eminemmerdale! I think the confusion is half way week 4 or half way through week 5.

Hello all , I did Wk 4 r 1 and bloidy Hell it was a struggle . Day off tomorrow from running but I might go on the cross trainer . Good idea or not ?
I am just a bit frustrated that I am finding it hate after managing so well . Maybe I need to start the whole thing again Sad

Fwiw , I would think half way would be half way through Wk five .

Well done everyone for keeping going !

Sorry for moaning .

hairtwiddler · 25/06/2013 14:31

Can I join as a near graduate? I did week 8 run 2 today and with warm up and cool down walks I crossed the 5k barrier! I'm still not running 5k though, probably nearer to 4. Today I ran for 30minutes but towards the last five I had to keep stopping and shaking my feet as they went numb. Does this happen to anyone else? I've had the problem occasionally and physio says likely comes from back issues.

Loving it though. I never thought I'd get this far! Planning to do race for life in Newcastle next month.

Dingle · 25/06/2013 14:53

Just completed W3r1 and I was quite saddened when it seemed to finish early. Did I miss something, I was all prepared to do around 32 mins like previous weeks and it seemed to end on about 25 mins.

I feel I slow my pace down slightly on the first run of the week, thinking I cannot push myself to hard in case I fail. I burnt less calories and covered less distance than w2r3!

eminemmerdale · 25/06/2013 15:01

Ok, so explain to me please! The runs/walks are timed yes? So surely they must all be the same distance?

Trazzletoes · 25/06/2013 15:42

emin but each week you increase the amount you run. You cover more distance when you run in comparison to walking so if you run for more minutes then you will cover more distance.

Also, as you get fitter you will cover more distance.

Plus everyone's different, so you and I could do the same "run" and cover quite different distances.

Someone who is relatively fit will run 5km in 30 mins, hence c25k. Though plenty of people will get to the last week and not actually be running 5km.

hairtwiddler · 25/06/2013 15:44

Timed yes but likely different people will run/walk at different speeds. I think the idea of the plans is to first build up stamina in terms of time you can run.

BIWI · 25/06/2013 15:50

When I completed C25K earlier in the year, it was only by my last run of week 9 that I reached 5K. You definitely get faster/run for longer with every run.

amigababy · 25/06/2013 15:51

I am actually amazed at just how much extra ground is covered when I jog compared to a walk - even at my really slow jog pace.

blizy · 25/06/2013 15:55

Hi all I'm a c25k newbie, done w1r2 this morning and I'm loving it! I am very unfit and overweight, I am combining this with calorie counting and gym workouts. I have to lose around 2 stone in 6 weeks so I can start fertility treatment.

Thistledew · 25/06/2013 17:00

eminemmerdale - only if you run at a constant speed. If you run twice as quickly, you will cover twice the distance!

distance = speed x time
