Sorry to hear that scarlettsalt but I'm impressed you didn't stop having done a hard class beforehand. I think you're being hard on yourself, you did well!!

Sorry to confuse you SarahWithAFringeOnTop Wink
DH inhalers still have ventolin stamped on them but I think the drug name is salbutamol.

Two days off for me now, ds1 does gymnastics Thursday which makes it a nightmare to run and I am working tomorrow night. I'm volunteering at the park run Saturday but hope to fit a run either before (will mean an early start as I have to be there at 8.25) or after ds1's friends party 11-1.

Feeling all GrinGrinGrin now!

I?m following the physio?s advice to the letter. She said I?d be alright to run on it so I went out this morning to attempt week 7 run 3. I decided that the rules for today?s run would be that if I wanted to stop because my ankle was bothering me I would but not if I was just feeling tired or a little out of puff (not having gone for a run in almost a week). I?d have a go at doing a 5k loop (walking after the 25 minutes were up) but if my ankle was bothering me I?d just turn around 30 seconds into Xanadu (my week 7 playlist halfway point).

As soon as I started out I knew I wasn?t going to be breaking any personal best records today. My ankle didn?t hurt but it was very stiff and had no bounce so I couldn?t go very fast at all. It took me an extra 5 or 6 minutes to get to the point I?d reached at the 25 minute mark during the park run (a ginormous splashy puddle ? hard to miss!) But I wasn?t worried about speed today. I was just hoping I?d be able to run without doing myself a further mischief.

So all the way around I just shuffled along trying to concentrate on making my knees go over my toes instead of rubbing together (like they normally do which is part of the problem that caused my injury). All of a sudden ?The Final Countdown? (which is my last running song before the walking bit) came on and I was really surprised it had come around already. When it finished I didn?t want to stop running so I decided to keep going until I wanted to stop. I ran all the way back to the start line! I almost wish I?d started running at the start line (was still doing my warm up walk for about 2 minutes past the line) as that would have been my first ever 5k run then. Never mind. I keep reading on these threads people saying they didn?t want to stop running at the end of their time and so kept going and I?m thinking Confused. I usually use up the last of my willpower and keep running fuelled by sheer stubbornness until I?m ?allowed? to slow down to a walk.

So I?ve got a big grin on my face because after worrying that today might be hard and that I might not be able to manage 25 minutes of running, I actually managed to run (read jog shuffle) non-stop for 38 minutes 50 seconds! And on an owee boo boo too! Grin

wonderstuff · 22/03/2013 13:51

I did my first run ever, indeed first exercise this year yesterday, really enjoyed it. Went out again today because I'm stuck on an assignment my thighs aren't thanking me! My hips are achy today too. Have promised myself an iPod if I get through the 9 weeks!

NurseEzzzaChapel · 22/03/2013 15:29

Well done wonderstuff!

frenchfancy · 22/03/2013 16:22

Well done Ezzza

I'm going to attempt 5k today as my other route is now too short (takes me about 26 mins and I'm now on wk 8 so need 28 mins)

I've given up on Laura and I am now running to a playlist on random instead.

debtherat · 22/03/2013 17:36

So I'm a bit stuck on my route I think. It's getting easier but always same time - 30 mins unless I get stopped for directions (happens often for some reason!!). Want to try to do short sprints - intervals? - but scared I'll exhaust myself/explode... especially at the beginning I run so cautiously. Running faster seems like taking it a bit too seriously. Local race for life in mid June so i've got a target. Currently run twice a week and swim a mile twice but probably need an extra run. Would really like to do 27 mins for 5k and be first fat, old lady to cross the line!! make my boys proud of me... they were last year.

cinnamongreyhound · 22/03/2013 20:50

Don't know if this will work but here's the official finish photo from my race last Sunday :)

Freezing my bum off marshalling local parkrun. Very proud of myself for doing 10k BEFORE I arrived Grin

MirandaWest · 23/03/2013 10:53

Well done cinnamon Grin. I did local park run for first time in months and got snowed on but must have been worse for the marshals.

NurseEzzzaChapel · 23/03/2013 12:23

Wow, cinnamon, 10k before 9am. Eek!

NurseEzzzaChapel · 23/03/2013 12:24

Tsk, hit send too soon. Meant to add I didn't park run today as I had an exam at 10am this morning, but hoping to do it next Saturday.

frenchfancy · 23/03/2013 13:06

I didn't do the 5k route in the end, mainly due to lack of time. I did manage 4k in 30mins though and could probably have kept going. I think I need to work on my speed now.

pennygallops · 23/03/2013 15:29

Completed my local parkrun in 28.29 mins. Not fantastic but respectable. It was very cold, windy and snowing. I decided I was going to take my time and enjoy my run... and I did really enjoy it. And to top off the morning my DS completed his 10th run! He finished with a huge smile on his face. Hoping next week is warmer so we can attempt a BP.
Well done on your running everyone.

debtherat · 23/03/2013 15:45

Sounds pretty fantastic to me - no way I would venture out today! Well done.

scarletsalt · 23/03/2013 15:59

Those of you who have been out running today are nutters! Grin Well done, you guys are fab!

Ezza if there was a 'like' button on here I would have used it on your post @ 12:06:16! You sound like you are loving it right now!

I am going to be bowing out of running for the next few weeks I think, am going on holiday in a week anyway, and am just not feeling it at the moment. I tried to run at the gym again this morning, but even though I had blister plasters on the blisters were still a bit painful, and the last thing I want is to make them worse just before my holiday. And once I had it in my head that they were hurting, I was just rubbish at running, so only managed 7 minutes (although 2 months ago that would have been a lot for me!).

I do feel like I have lost my mojo a bit, but am thinking that I will let my blisters heal (and sort out the root of the problem), try and get in a bit of other excercise (did a bit of shredding this afternoon!) and then maybe come back in at week 5 when I get back from holiday.

I will keep reading this thread for inspiration from you guys though, and hope to be back on here soon!

MirandaWest · 23/03/2013 18:23

Penny gallops you were a lot faster than I was Grin. I took 31.50 minutes which was slow but I know I'm not anywhere near my PB of just over 28 minutes anyway and the driving snow was not any fun at all. Hopefully I will be better next time. And doing that time in that weather makes me think maybe I will do 10k in under an hour in August....

pennygallops · 23/03/2013 18:27

Running in snow is not easy. Well done mirandawest on your run. You'll easily be under an hour in August.

I really want a little sunshine now and warmth.

BecauseImWoeufIt · 23/03/2013 18:51

Another nutter here Grin

I went out wearing my usual cold weather kit, but also added a snood to keep my face warm, and had some handwarmers in my gloves. Did the trick nicely!

I managed Week 7/Run 1 today - a 25 minute run - with ease. Could have done more actually. I didn't though, as I don't want to risk making my shins worse.

So far the shins seem OK, although I can 'feel' them, IYKWIM.

cinnamongreyhound · 23/03/2013 19:53

I posted here for this lady to join us but I think she's misunderstood. She feels she'd be a nuisance, particularly newbies perhaps could persuade her she would fit right in?

Teahouse · 23/03/2013 19:59

Just saying hi.
I started the C25k last week and then on W2r3 bad, twisted my ankle and doubt I will be able to restart W2 until next week - and then I think I may wait until it is less cold and wet. Have bought ankle supports which I am hoping will help. Have very flat feet but bought special trainers after having my run video'd at a proper running shop.

It seems almost impossible that I could do more than a couple of minutes running at the moment, but a week ago I found the 60secs hard. I don't want to do more than 5k really as finding 40 mins more than a few times a week to do anything is almost an impossibility, but it would be nice to think I cold do a 5k run by the end of the summer.

NurseEzzzaChapel · 23/03/2013 20:09

Hooray! Welcome to the thread Teahouse!

Sorry to hear about your ankle. I hope it heals quickly.

emmief77 · 23/03/2013 22:07

hello

I have entered the Race For Life 5k, and have downloaded the NHS C25K podcast for my training.

My problem is that I am LAZY Blush even with the motivation of having entered a 5k that I need to get in shape for and having the podcast for my training.. I struggle to get out of the door... If I do venture out, I slow down or stop too easily... I went running with my friend tonight and had a great run, but she is away next week and I don't want to lose the momentum.

pennygallops · 23/03/2013 22:08

Welcome teahouse. I think you'll be able to run 5K by the summer. I know lots of people, in RL and on here, who have had success with C25K. Good luck.

Teahouse · 23/03/2013 22:45

Thanks nurse and penny. I am keen to get started again but will wait until I know I can jog safely. I have enjoyed being outside a few times a week, but am a bit of a fair weather person as I have Reynaulds and get very cold, very quickly...also glasses and rain don't go well and I do them. With luck the better weather will be here soon.

I am sure I will need a lot of encouragement to keep going as I did find W2r3 hard, although had barely eaten all day and the day prior was so stressful I fell apart as soon as I got home; could all be excuses but they may have no helped.

dementedmom · 23/03/2013 23:24

Hi there all. I was wondering if someone could put my mind at ease. I did W1r3 yesterday, just about, and the pain in my thighs and calves whilst I was attempting to run was burning like crazy! I just about finished it, with the skin of my teeth. The very first run I found really easy, but my thighs and calves hurt the next day. Then after each run, the pains have got worse even though I am stretching before and after.

Is this normal? Please tell me it will pass and not get worse as the runs get longer...
