Just wanted to share with someone as I'm very proud of myself at the moment Blush

Hi Twas!
I started to get hooked around week 2-3 as I could start to see my progress. I still feel very much a newbie as, although I can run jog non stop for 30 minutes, I am no where near 5k. The encouragement here is fantastic Smile

TwasBrillig · 10/06/2013 21:51

I'm so impressed that anyone can run for 30 minutes! Well done :-) I'd love to be able to do that one day. Ultimately I'd love to be able to do a park run (and be 5+stone lighter so I don't look silly doing it!)

wibblyjelly · 10/06/2013 22:05

You'll get there. I was like you, and could never imagine doing it, and then I did it at week 7 Grin

FoundAChopinLizt · 10/06/2013 22:10

Hi Twas

There are people at all stages on here, so welcome!

It's like magic, just do what the app says and you'll be running 30 mins. I did my first 30 mins today and I've entered a race in two weeks' time!

I do find it's good for me mentally, I've got a more positive attitude generally and I handle stress better. My legs feel like new ones and my energy level is still improving at 9 weeks.

TwasBrillig · 10/06/2013 22:13

Ace! I could certainly do with more energy! I think I might have an ear infection or funny cold so not sure about run 3 tomorrow. Spent most of today in bed grr. I want to get on with it!

HunterWellies · 10/06/2013 22:25

Hello hello.

Not looked in for a while since holiday, lots of new faces :)

I surprised myself with a pb after almost a week off on Friday, then again this morning, with an average time of 7.5 minutes/km.

Still running around the 25 minute mark as that's all the time I have in the mornings after you've added 10 minutes walking time, so not covering 5k yet, but thinking of making Saturday morning my 'distance' day and then doing 2 midweek runs that focus on pace.

What do you think?

Theyoniwayisnorthwards · 10/06/2013 23:42

Sorry to hear about your ankle Wibbly, hi Twas and welcome!

TK Maxx do running gear by fancy-pants brands at a fraction of the cost, I got three pairs of leggings, two light tops and two long sleeve tops for about £60. An identical pair of leggings were £60 in the running shop where I bought my shoes.

One pair of leggings is TOO BIG now. I cannot describe how happy that made me. Grin

TwasBrillig · 11/06/2013 22:46

I've just finished week 1! Starting week 2 on Thursday. Still at a stage where 90 seconds looks like a lot, but I'm going to give it a go. So can't imagine running without a break!

sparkle12mar08 · 12/06/2013 10:24

Mornin' all!

New route + tired legs = getting lost and a nice meander in the countryside! Plotted a new route on the computer last night and thought I'd memorised it... but I missed an intended turn off and ended up just pottering through the countryside. It was beautiful anyway, even if it wasn't where I'd intended to go lol! I saw buzzards surfing the thermals, a hare dashing across my path, goldfinches flashing through the hedges, and heard skylarks singing in the fields and woodpeckers drumming in the trees.

Go TwasBrillig! You will get there, and found is right, each week you'll see progress and each week you'll feel even prouder Smile

Hunter - I think that sounds like a great plan, and I bet you'll see results really quickly by working on both strands in harmony.

FoundAChopinLizt · 12/06/2013 13:39

Hi

Well done 'twas, the first few weeks are the worstGrin

I timed myself for the first time today on runtastic, also first time without NHS Laura or music

4.85km in 27mins!

Now I know to run a little further to get the 5k, I have 7 more runs before my race, so aiming for 26-27 mins. I think the course is less hilly than than my practice route.

HunterWellies · 12/06/2013 15:09

Cheers Sparkle :) What an idyllic route you found, who cares if it was the wrong one :o

Chopin that sounds very impressive! Well done to you.

'Twas, honestly one day, very soon, you will not want to break up your runs with walking. Unbelievable, but true...

wibblyjelly · 13/06/2013 19:03

My first 5k! Completed in one hour. I only stopped to cross roads, and one hill where I figured it was quicker tk walk up than plod up. Grin I've got the distance, now to work on my speed

sparkle12mar08 · 14/06/2013 00:01

Go Wibbly!!!!!!

TwasBrillig · 14/06/2013 08:20

Wow 5k! Impressed! I'm planning to do wk 2r1 tonight. Hope it goes ok!

wibblyjelly · 14/06/2013 08:28

Thank you both. Stairs are an issue this morning, just in time for me to take 8 month old ds up to London to meet my dsis for lunch. I'm thinking of today as another work out Grin

sparkle12mar08 · 14/06/2013 11:54

Morning! Managed to do the route this morning that I'd planned to do on Weds. It's nice enough, country lanes and some great views, but one of the lanes had substantially more traffic than anything I've run on before. I mean it wasn't a motorway, but I was passed by about a dozen cars & vans and one horse box in about ten minutes. I have a hi viz reflective vest on order which I think will make me feel a bit safer, but I may look at the map again and see if there's a work around.

Nature highlights today included a red kite soaring the thermals and some yellowhammers in the hedgerows.

^^This is why I run - for my mental health as much as anything else!

Theyoniwayisnorthwards · 14/06/2013 13:56

Ugh! Chicken pox in two year old and six month old swiftly followed by stomach flu for the whole family. It has not been an easy week! Feel stuck again as I've missed another run and just cannot physically go out again yet. Still on week 6, 8 weeks in! Oh well, I'll get there. Next week can only get better..

wibblyjelly · 14/06/2013 15:45

Hope you get out soon, yoni.

FoundAChopinLizt · 14/06/2013 16:07

Oh dear Yoni

Have some ThanksThanks

Hope you are back on track soon.

Running class last night, we ran the race as a practice, stopping to walk half way. It went well, we weren't timing it, but it was fun as we were all cheering each other on at the finish.

I'm going back tomorrow to do a proper timed attempt, with my speedy dd who's aiming to do it in 22mins!

FoundAChopinLizt · 15/06/2013 09:06

Morning all!

Went out early, did practice on 5k race route, pushed harder than I ever have before. Went too fast on flatter first half then suffered on hilly second half. Was nearly sick and lay down on road after!

But-timed 27.1mins so really happy!SmileSmile

wibblyjelly · 15/06/2013 09:10

That's brilliant Found, well done!

ShotgunNotDoingThePans · 15/06/2013 09:41

< Creeping out of the woodwork >
I think I posted here a couple of weeks ago, asking whether it was a good idea to run with an arthritic hip.
Well, it turns out so far - it is! Grin

That said, I'm taking it extra gently, more like bed to couch than c25k.
I've been going three times a week, and am now up to 11 x 30 secs run interspersed with 2 mins walk. So yesterday I 'ran' for 51/2 mins in total, and am usually out for about 45 - 50 mins.

I've found a new reasonably flat route as well, which makes a huge difference; the area where I live is quite hilly so last time I did this I struggled to find decent routes.

So looking forward to joining up my runs, but I'm determined not to spoil any gains by overdoing it - at this rate it'll be 9 months before I manage 30 mins, but I'd rather stop and feel like I could do more than crack on and regret it.

I reckon if I have to have a hip replacement in the future I might as well be thin and fit!

wibblyjelly · 15/06/2013 10:51

Thats brilliant, shotgun. Slow and steady wins the race Smile

HunterWellies · 15/06/2013 11:12

Chopin - brilliant!! You must have been really going for it, I hate that feeling of going to be sick, got it on Thursday when trying for a pb on a speed run. Still, haven't had to actually lie down on the road so I'm obviously slacking :o

Did my first distance run today- 5.15km in 41 minutes. So I guess I've sort of graduated... After 90 days! I am still aiming for 5km in 30 minutes though, so I'm not really counting it.

However, since my previous longest time running was 28 minutes and about 3km, I am quite chuffed.

FoundAChopinLizt · 15/06/2013 13:55

Hi again

Dd was fed up with her 'crap time' of 24 mins, so I'm not getting big headedGrin
