I can't believe I managed to do it! I am very unfit and about 3 stone overweight. But I did it Grin

Just wanted to share with someone as I'm very proud of myself at the moment Blush

Well done new :) I've just looked at w6r1 ahead of tomorrow and its back to three intervals... So I can test my theory about the third run being harder irrespective of length in minutes.

As for running bras, I'm a 32E (although still bfing so not sure that's accurate!) and mine is a shock absorber. It seems to do the job. I must go and get measured though, just to see what size they are these days Blush

eminemmerdale · 22/04/2013 14:19

Did my first run yesterday...ouch! Am having a problem though - I have a blackberry and cannot find anything which seems compatible to download - even the blackberry site, which i scanned the barcode from (isn't that BRILLIANT!!) says my device isn't compatible - anyone got any ideas?

newbeliever · 22/04/2013 16:08

Hi Eminemmerdale - I don't have a Blackberry but I had trouble with my phone. I ended up going direct to the NHS website and downloading the podcasts that way. I couldn't find the app at all on my phone - samsung. Well done on starting, that's the biggest step by far! How did you find it? My legs really ached the first week, five weeks in and I've been amazed at how quickly I've progressed.

wibblyjelly · 22/04/2013 16:19

Hi Emine I was where you were 1 run ago. I found the 2nd run a lot easier, and I can't believe I'm actually looking forward to run 3 tonight Grin

eminemmerdale · 22/04/2013 16:30

I thought it was be easy !!!!!!!!!!! after the first 60 secs I actually thought I may die, which is very sad to admit to, but I persevered and did the full 20 mins and actuallfelt ok at the end - doing number 2 tomorrow...A bit achy today but I do cycle 4 miles a day so hopefully that will help Grin. May have to not use a podcast then :( was clutching my phone stopwach last night and looking at it waiting for the 60 secs to be over every two secs Grin

eminemmerdale · 22/04/2013 16:31

*was going to be easy

wibblyjelly · 22/04/2013 16:37

They are the longest 60 seconds known to man, aren't they? Grin

EauRouge · 22/04/2013 16:44

How fast are you running? Most people run too fast, I made that mistake in the first couple of weeks. Run a bit slower than you think you need to and then run even slower than that. It doesn't matter if you're only going a tiny bit faster than a walk, you can build your speed up later. If you're using a running app then it should tell you your pace.

eminemmerdale · 22/04/2013 18:01

I'm going pretty slowly Grin

wibblyjelly · 22/04/2013 18:37

Week 1 complete! My run took me along a main road. A couple of cars beeped me, whether in encouragement or mockery, I don't know!

HunterWellies · 22/04/2013 18:42

Hello everyone and welcome to Em :)

W6R1 this morning. Where has the time gone?? W1 seems like last week, I can see the end now. This is the last week of interval runs I think, which seems like a small graduation in itself.

I'm sticking to my theory of three short runs being harder than two long ones anyway. The third run this morning was very hard and I found I was making deals with myself (Crunchie related Blush) to complete the last five minutes. It's weird considering I did a 20 minute solid run on Friday and today was just (!) five-eight-five.

Two tens in Wednesday I think and then that's it, no more walking for me...

EauRouge · 22/04/2013 19:16

I hated going back to intervals after doing that 20 min run in week 5. It's definitely easier once you get to week 7 and 8 but don't be tempted to skip ahead! It's still important to build up slowly to give your muscles a chance to repair.

I really need to get some running shorts and vest, I was sweltering last time I went out. I wanted to go tomorrow morning but DH is really stressed and wants a lie in and I think if I go for a run he'll probably change the locks while I'm out Grin

FoundAChopinLizt · 22/04/2013 19:21

I've name changed, (was Asinine, but don't tell).

Planning on run2 wk2 tomorrow, actually looking forward to it. I'm going to avoid the hilly park for an experiment and try the old railway line which should be easier.

sadlovedgirl · 22/04/2013 20:19

Hi all, well I'm feeling very pleased with myself I've just done w2 r1 and really enjoyed it. I tried going to an athletics track near where I live and although I had to pay (£3.40) it was great seeing how far I was actually running and not having to watch out for stepping in dog poo and after the 1st 5 minute walk I had the track to myself which I didn't expect as it was packed when I got there!!!
I don't know if I'm actually loosing any weight but I really feel better in myself after running and surely that's half the battle? right??

Sparkle : in answer to your enquiry about running bras, I got mine from a shop called Sutton Runner (they have a web site, suttonrunner.com) and its the supper jock sports bra at £29.99. I'm a 38f and it does a great job at supporting my ample boobage!! Hth

Theyoniwayisnorthwards · 22/04/2013 21:00

Knackered but need to force myself out the door now for W2R1..couldn't leave house until toddler asleep and baby fed.

HunterWellies · 22/04/2013 21:11

Go yoni :) I admire the evening runners on this thread. I am just off to bed!

Like the name Chopin :o

Theyoniwayisnorthwards · 22/04/2013 22:00

Thanks Hunter. Did it and I feel great now. Quite like being outdoors at night, I'm running on a well lit road so I feel safe. I'm looking forward to running in the park or somewhere pretty. Does grass feel very different to run on?

meebles · 22/04/2013 22:20

Yoni I love it outside at night too. just finished week 2. I'm sure a hedgehog lapped me!

sparkle12mar08 · 23/04/2013 07:42

Did w3 d1 yesterday and it was okay. My app conked out part way through so I had to restart it and skip to where I thought I was, net result being I think I did one more repetition of the run/walk, but hey ho, I survived. My legs feel substantially heavier today than in previous weeks though, I think the step up to 3 mins is noticeable for me, plus the extra rep (oops!). Am still struggling for sports bras in my size - I looked at the SuperJock sadlovedgirl, but I need three cup sizes bigger than they go to! Atm I'm using a decent fitting underwired normal bra with a slightly too large in the band/too small in the cup shockabsorber over the top to contain the bounce. It's not ideal but it's the best I have. I've got a bunch of Freyas comming at some point this week so am hoping one of those will fit!

newbeliever · 23/04/2013 08:21

Morning everyone, just completed w5r3, yay!! Felt a bit apprehensive before I set off as I quite enjoy the little walks in between the runs so was unsure how I'd keep going but I did it! First 10 mins was comfortable, the next 5 mins I started to get a bit hot, at 15 mins the dreaded stitch struck, so spent the next couple of mins concentrating on breathing, slowed down a bit and pushed stomach out, like Laura had suggested on earlier podcast and it worked, last 3mins where mind over matter for me as it just felt wrong when I realised how far I'd run. Just mapped my run on map myrun and I covered 1.85 miles so feel v chuffed!

Will be interesting to see if I find the return to 3 repetitions for w6 tricky, in a wierd way now I'd just prefer to run until I can't manage any further as it is almost harder to get going again after a rest. I will stick with the programme though!

Was a beautiful morning but made me realise I need to invest in some proper running tops as I have just been wearing old t-shirts which get rather sweaty in this warmer weather! Anyone have any recommendations for reasonably priced gear?

Good luck to everyone else running today, keep going!

eminemmerdale · 23/04/2013 08:29

busy day at work today, then doing my second one tonight Grin

wibblyjelly · 23/04/2013 10:51

Well done, eminemGrin . I finished week 1 yesterday, and woke this morning really achey. I think because I knew it was the last run of the week, I pushed myself a bit more, so its a good ache! I'm actually looking forward to going out tomorrow, although it will have to be an evening run, as dh is working late.

FoundAChopinLizt · 23/04/2013 11:05

Glad to see everyone is still on course!

Back from w2r2, was on the flat mainly, except one long flight of steps which coincided with a 'walk' section, so was like three runs in a row. Still, survived it. Running on tarmac was harder on my knees-am going to get proper new trainers. Thinking of asics kayano as I pronate a lot.

Thursday is my first beginners running class. Hoping this practice will help me keep up with all the beautiful young peopleGrin

FoundAChopinLizt · 23/04/2013 11:07

Wibbly
Are you stretching after a run? Dd taught me how, and it's stopped me getting achey.

wibblyjelly · 23/04/2013 11:38

Hi Found, no I normally just collapse on the sofa when I get home, I thought the walk home would do the trick. I'll do a bit of stretching when I get home tomorrow, hopefully that should do the trick Smile
