I can't believe I managed to do it! I am very unfit and about 3 stone overweight. But I did it Grin

Just wanted to share with someone as I'm very proud of myself at the moment Blush

I also look forward to the 'day off' running-because I know that's what I'm meant to do, I'm not confused about resting, like I would have been if I'd done it on my own. Laura on the NHS podcast is very convincing, I'd do anything she said, I'm sure.

I need a slattern2domesticgodess podcast next, wk1 one minute tidying, 90 minutes on mumsnet Grin

wibblyjelly · 19/04/2013 07:17

My name is wibbly jelly, and I am really unfit. . It has not even been one day since my first run.

I didn't realise how painful it would be the next day Sad . Last night, I had a general ache, but felt good. This morning, the achiness is up a couple of notches, and my left foot is in pain, mostly around the heel.

Please tell me this is just starting pains, and it will get better Smile

EauRouge · 19/04/2013 08:20

I like the sound of slattern2dosmesticgoddess Grin

sadlovedgirl, I went out way too quickly the first few times. I have an app that tracks my pace and in weeks 1 and 2 my running pace was something like 5 mins per km. Now when I run the whole lot my fastest pace is just over 6 mins per km. Pacing yourself is the key! The best way I found to do it was to choose a time that I thought I could do and then use jog.fm to pick songs that were the right speed. Then I just set my pace to match the music. I could probably do without music now but I found it really helpful in finding a pace that suits me.

Asinine · 19/04/2013 08:24

Wibbly
My aches are settling now I have done three runs. The first two were the worst. I do have slightly sore shins, so I'm running as far as possible on grass, which helps.

Another interesting 'side effect'- sleeping like a log.Smile

wibblyjelly · 19/04/2013 08:38

I'd love to sleep like a log, but ds has other ideas Smile

Theyoniwayisnorthwards · 19/04/2013 08:47

Wibbly I hurt like hell after the first one, less after two and not much at all this morning. I keep telling myself that the goal is just stick with it. I am pretty horribly unfit too and 3 stone overweight. Not even embarrassed running down the road in leggings anymore, at least I'm doing something about it.

newbeliever · 19/04/2013 09:18

Morning everyone, did w5r1 this morning, not too bad but was a bit puffed during the final 5min run, not sure if I set off a bit quick this morning in my keenness! Feel like maybe I should repeat the run as every run is different this week and I'm not convinced I'll manage the 8min run during the next podcast. Did anyone else feel the same?

Well done Wibbly for starting! My legs really ached after the first run and probably did for the first week of runs but slowly I have reached a point where they don't ache at all which is amazing! That is what is so brilliant about c25k you notice improvements to your health and fitness really quickly.

How did you get on this morning Hunter, can't wait to read your report, can't believe it will be me in a few days!!

Asinine · 19/04/2013 10:05

Oops, wibbly, was so carried away with running talk I forgot the Golden Rule. Never mention a full night's sleep to anyone with little ones. Formal apologies. Social suicide....

wibblyjelly · 19/04/2013 10:16

Don't worry asinine, its the weekend now, dh can get up with him Grin

HunterWellies · 19/04/2013 11:07

Morning all.

Well................... I did it! w5r3, 20 minute non-stop running! Incredible. I honestly never thought I'd say that.

I won't pretend my pace was anything special. I think I covered 1.4 miles in that time, rather than the 2 miles the app suggested I'd do in 20 minutes. But my goal was to keep going, that's all. So I'm very pleased :)

New I was just the same after the first run of the week, but actually two 8 minute blocks was no harder, easier if anything than three 5s. As Eau keeps saying, it's a psychological thing as much as anything now and I think starting to run for a third time after walking is quite difficult in itself.

To those new runners mentioning sore shins and feet, do make sure you are wearing proper running shoes. I am absolutely positive they can be the difference between success and failure when it comes to running because if you get injured you will have to stop and then it's so much harder to get started again.

newbeliever · 19/04/2013 12:20

Well done Hunter!! Must be such a feeling of achievement! I wouldn't worry about the distance you covered, the fact than you ran for 20mins is fantastic, the speed can come later. That's what I'm telling myself anyway.

I'll continue with run 2 on Sunday and see how I get on, will make sure I take it nice and steady at the beginning. I do find it hard to pace myself!

Theyoniwayisnorthwards · 19/04/2013 13:41

Go Hunter! Who cares about the pace yet, what an achievement!

meebles · 19/04/2013 14:09

Hurrah for Hunter!

Did w2r2 last night, and got my gps going on run double. Very interesting to hear my interval times as I went, even managed to pick up the pace a little on the last run.

EauRouge · 19/04/2013 16:38

I knew you could do it Grin Well done!

HunterWellies · 19/04/2013 18:38

Aw, you guys Blush

Thank you so much for the support, it makes such a difference.

ThiefofTime · 19/04/2013 20:44

Can I join? Just done w2 run2 today and it was ok. Almost enjoyed it. These threads have really encouraged me and it is great to hear about running for 20 mins. I can't imagine it now but am just hoping that Laura will get me there.

Asinine · 19/04/2013 21:33

Hi Thief welcome! I'm still at the stage where running for 1 min seems like an achievement. Smile you're in the right place.

Asinine · 20/04/2013 10:53

Back from wk2r1, went well once I got into it. Slight hangover from last nightWineWine, but no excuses allowed. Dd is doing her 10k next week, so she's already been out running.

Dh thinks I've gone mad, but he is making noises about getting on his bike again. Would like him to get fit too.

wibblyjelly · 20/04/2013 11:31

W1R2 complete. I was nervous to start with, and really had to force myself to go, but I actually enjoyed it once I got going.

Asinine · 20/04/2013 13:26

Well done wibbly! Glad you enjoyed it Smile

sadlovedgirl · 20/04/2013 18:58

Hello wibbly you're definately in the right place Grin
Well I've finished my first week and I've got to say I've really enjoyed it (I never thought if say that!) I'm a bit aprihensive about stepping up to week 2 on Monday but in for a penny in for a pound and all that!

wibblyjelly · 20/04/2013 19:24

Thanks asinine and sad, the support really helps Smile

wibblyjelly · 21/04/2013 13:09

Just watching the London Marathon, and it makes my 8 minutes of running over 20 minutes pale in comparison. Truly inspiring....

sparkle12mar08 · 21/04/2013 18:07

Hi all, just checking in! Am due to do w3 d1 tomorrow and am a wee bit nervous. I'm only about a stone and a half over weight but am very flabby round the stomach and have huge boobs and my pelvic floor is shot. I've been running in manky old jogging bottoms and ten year old aerobics trainers but am way past caring about what people think I look like. I have two pairs of Asics Gels on order after getting a gait analysis at the weekend, and have picked up some sports bras today but I'm not sure they'll do the job - any recs for a great control bra for a 30GG/H size? I am going to finish this programme if it kills me!

newbeliever · 21/04/2013 20:50

Evening everyone - just got back from w5r2 and survived! Like Hunter I found it easier than w5r1, not sure why??! I found the first 8 mins very comfortable and I started to sweat a bit 4 mins in during the second run ... even found I had a bit left in the tank for the final 60secs so really went for it. Feel very proud of myself, especially when I think back to w1r1 when I was struggling to do the 60secs with a break! Still apprehensive about the next one, but will trust Laura that I'm ready and not set out too quickly.

Well done Wibbly for starting, you will be hooked before you know it!

Sparkle - good luck for tomorrow, I'm afraid I can't help with bra advice as I'm only 34A, but I'm sure someone will be along who can.
