I have just told my friend that you can get pretty much any question answered here. He promptly said, smugly, "I bet they won't be able to explain the off-side rule in football". Now I know nothing about football but I would LOVE to show him that there are mums out there who do know :)

At its most simplistic, the player must not be beyond the last defender at the point the ball is kicked into play. We won't go into the second phase rule

When the ball is played by the attacking team there must be 2 defending team members between the goal and the last attacking player.
