David Lloyd or Nuffield

Any recommendations?
I'm seriously thinking about one of these instead of our local councils leisure centre but DH not too keen on the price difference.
Is it worth it?

how often would you use it - how many times a week ?
which of the facilities would you use - poll / gym / studios / courts ?
would you use the bar area to meet friends and have coffees ?
are the showers / changing room area noticably nicer to be in several times a week ?

perceptions of value are interesting ....

Why would you use one of those rather than the council leisure centre....what do they offer that the council facilities dont.

Really, if you can well afford it then go for the DL.........my friend is a member of our DL and took me once on a guest pass...yes, it was lovely and sugar coated as I call it but offered nothing extra. Personally, I go to the gym, do my class and come home so I am not bothered about all the extras they offer anyway. Some people I know though seem to spend their whole life at DL.

the main reason I tolerate the high prices at DL is for the outdoor swimming.

I would use it min 3 times a week. Gym, pool and classes. What puts me off local council one is when ever I am available weekend or evening the pool has clubs, classes or parties, gym is packed and good classes are too early in the day. Is dl any better?

Check out the membership regs too. IME our LA has a low monthly fee, cancel at anytime, freeze for holidays etc. Use any gym/ pool/ classes in the LA. ( city so loads) When you first join DL/ Virgin etc you tend to use the extras more i.e. the cafe etc that soon gets old and then you just hit the gym etc and head home and as you are stuck to one gym you have to be pretty quick off the mark to book into the popular classes to get a place.

I've just resigned my DL membership, because they put my membership up (again) and also increased my personal training by £20 a month. I would end up paying almost £400 a month if I stayed.

I'm going to Virgin instead - membership is £31 a month cheaper, and their personal training will be less too.

Nuffield gym near here looks good, and they are very keen on reviewing your fitness/performance, which I think is a positive thing - and if you improve on your key measurements (whatever they may be) they reward you with free personal training or a free month's membership - can't remember exactly which. But their membership was almost as expensive, and their personal training much more expensive. And no parking, other than the town centre pay and display (heavily over-crowded) car park.

With DL I am also tied in for at least 3 months after I resign my membership as well, which is a pain.

we consider the pool crowded if we are more than two to a lane :-)
Classes run till 9pm ...

Do not use personal trainers - on principle only do what is included in the monthly sub.
Our one has a huge car park (with valet company there so the car can be cleaned while I'm swimming)

Both of mine have large free car parks. Good to hear classes run til 9.
DH is now looking at Virgin too but think I prefer look of dl
