Just waiting for ipod to charge a bit so that I can time my 1 mile as suggested by a friend.

I feel so unfit. I can barely reach my trainers comfortably to tie the laces.

Come on pig.

Way to go! Getting started is the hardest bit. Look forward to being non-piglike. :)

You can do it! Just think of how good you will feel afterwards! Have you got butterflies?

thatlldopigthatlldo · 05/08/2012 16:08

a little bit of butterflies.

what if i don't make it past the end of the road?

it's a mile to the red phone box and back.

1 mile, 12:53:12. no walking, just a steady pace.
jeez that felt awful.

But you did it. It gets easier and once you are fit it is waayyyy easier to stay fit than it is to get fit so then it's plain sailing.

My Mum took up running after 30+ years of no exercise at age 60+, she couldn't run 100 yards without turning bright red and hardly being able to breath. Within couple of months she was doing over 2 miles and eventually went on to do a half marathon in Amsterdam!

Why don't you download the couch25k app

It got my fitness up very quickly

i've recruited the help of a personal trainer friend. I used to be a trainer too, and loved to exercise. i haven't been able to get my head in the right place to make the effort.

she told me to do a mile, time it and let her know how i get on. she's drawing me up a plan now.

i will have to do as she says too or she'll batter me. Grin

Good for you!

I'm planning on wearing my trainers for the first time in ages too - thanks for the inspiration!

How's it going? I managed in a couple of months to get from not running, to being able to run 5k without stopping (my own version of couch to 5k I guess!). Now I try and do Parkrun (free, timed, 5k runs) at least once a month so I can see how I'm doing reducing my time. Another 14seconds off this morning!

thatlldopigthatlldo · 12/08/2012 17:38

going well i think. i've done a 3 mile power walk, and today i did 30 minutes of fartlek in the park. and a 5 mile walk yesterday.
have lost 3lbs since last sunday so feeling pretty motivated.

I have been running for 4 weeks after a 3 year gap, admittedly I did have a go for a few months but an injury didn't let me do it properly.

anyway first it felt hard and only did sub miles the first week and then yesterday i did a mile in 7mins 15secs having started off over 10 mins. I feel like my body does remember running as it is not taking as long as expected to get back into. I have only done up to two miles so far.
