questions on shred

I have just done my first day of 30 day shred and feeling wobbly and barely able to type! Phew that was hard.

Basically I thought I would just give it a try on you tube to see if I can face doing it and I am shocked how much everything hurts, even though I think I have a kind of active and healthy lifestyle!

Today I used drink cartons as weights as they are about 1kg each. What weights should I be using? Are you supposed to up your weights after a few days? And for how many days should I stay at level 1??

Hi Fruitscone

You are meant to do 10 days at each level, but I didn't stick to this as I started to get bored! I think it's quite good to mix it up a bit. I did 4 days level one, then all the easier versions in level 2 and back to the harder versions of level 1 and so on. I found some exercises easier than others, it really depends on your level of starting fitness.

I started with 1kg weights and quickly moved on to 2.5kg weights. But I do mix them. Eg in level 2 I don't think I will ever manage the chair squats with V raises with the heavier weights without crying!

Stick at it, you will be surprised how quickly you adapt to the exercises. I found rather than sticking to it rigidly I mixed the levels to maintain my interest and motivation.

It's a brilliant workout, I love Jillian!

Thanks for that lemoncurd - just done day two and I was a bit better than yesterday but I am still a wimp! Can't imagine shredding with 2.5kg weights. I am going to get some proper weights but I think I will go for 1.5 or 2.

Today was still hard and I am now red faced and aching but quite proud of myself (sad git) and I have to say I had bundles of energy all day yesterday after shredding and no early afternoon low like I normally have. And that alone is enough to make me keep doing this.

I have a set of weights that I chop and change depending on what I'm doing. For the Shred I used mainly 5kg but did need to drop down to 3kg occasionally for things like the v raises (not for long though ).

Move up when ready. I only did level 1 once as it wasn't enough of a challenge but if by day 4, 5, 6 etc you're becoming complacent, change, if not, do the full 10 days.

Well done for starting. Only 28 days to go!

5kg??? . That is really impressive. Now I feel wimpier Grin!
And what does one do after completing the Shred? i.e. do you just keeping doing Level 3 to maintain things or do you move onto a new level of torture?

Shock 5kg .... Really? Oh help I thought I was doing well! SOH you must have biceps like bricks!

I think I will stick to my 2.5 kg ones, I don't want to bulk up too much ( well that's my excuse!)

Well I've just finished level 3 and I've got that lovely energised feeling. Like you Fruitscone, it's that feeling that motivates me. That and my tighter waistline Smile.

As for what's next I think I would be bored doing level 3 forever! I think Ripped in 30 follows on nicely from the shred so I am going to order that. I'm also more interested in ab exercises so No More Trouble Zones was recommended so I think I will get that too for variety. I think you need to try and do the workouts 5 times a week for the best results.
