Advice needed

I need to lose about 5 stones - I've joined a gym recently and tend to just use the treadmill to walk on an incline (usually do an hour to lose over 700 kcals). What should I do? Which exercises would give the best and quickest results??? I have no co-ordination so things like Zumba classes might be out of the question.

I would suggest that you keep trying new things until you find something that you enjoy. It might be a circuit class, it might be boxercise, it might be good old fashioned aerobics. But if you don't enjoy it, you probably won't keep it up. And please please do weight training at the same time, it is just as important as your cardiovascular work outs.
Good luck Smile

I can't do classes either because of no co-ordination issues so you're not alone there!

Can you ask one of the gym assistants to write you a program and then run through it with you? They should be willing and able to do that if you tell them what your goals are.

One note of caution, beware the calorie counters on the machines... they're at best a rough guide and do tend to over rather than under estimate what you've used.

If your gym offers spinning classes they'd be good though. In the gym itself, if no help available, a mix of the rower, bike, cross trainer and treadmill would be better than just the treadmill.

And can you up your activity outside the gym with cycling or walking?

Thanks for your help - the rowing machine was an excellent idea, I loved it!!

Excellent news! I really enjoy the rowing and make that the main part of my cardio work.

You'll find your endurance and distance build really quickly which is a great encouragement.
