Garmin Forerunners - or other GPS thingies

So as a little reward to myself for hitting my goal in the half marathon I did this weekend I'm going to buy a GPS watch thingy. I suppose I want it to help me improve my pacing and to know how far I've been. I've been rooting round on Amazon and was thinking about buying this . Does anybody have one and would you recommend it? Or anyone got another that they recommend?
I was a bit unsure about whether I wanted a HRM one, but I suppose it's a useful feature to have when you are looking to improve your fitness, and if I suddenly thought it was a function I really did need it would be good to have it there.
Any advice welcome!

hi DrSocks! I would definitely recommend getting one, it's really revolutionised my training. I have the 205, no HRM. I know a lot of people do use the HRM very successfully and it's made a real difference, it seems that making sure you do lots of "easy" HR runs improves the CV fitness no end.

However, I decided against HRM for me, more faff and didn't like having it on (I am a fussy apporth tho!). So it really all depends on what you want - helpful aren't I? Wink.

But as to getting one at all, I would say deffo do. Brilliant for intervals, for pacing, for comparing yourself on the same course. Love mine, it's my favourite toy!!

I have a 405cx with hrm, but I never use the hrm. I think the 210 has a lot more functions for only a little more money.

I have the 605. Its pricey but a lovely watch. I used to have a 305 which was great, bulky but you don't notice when you are running and I always wear a sweat band beneath my watch anyway.

The 305, you can pick up very reasonably I think. It has more functions that the 110 but some are put off by it's size.

I have and use a hrm. Not sure why, but I like the statsConfused

I have an oldish 405, don't use the HRM that often as mainly just use it for distance and pace. Love it and love Garmin Connect (think it comes with the little USB stick that downloads all into to that).

Argh, sorry everyone - decided after a few days with no replies that no one had a Garmin! Now I see lots of helpful advice!

I went ahead & bought the ladies 110 anyway. So far so good. Really easy to use and I'm loving being to see how far & fast I'm going. Wore the HRM to spin the other night which was a bit of a revelation; only 225cals in an hour of what I thought was hardcore sweating away. So glad I went for the HRM option.
