In the past 6 years I've had my 3 beautiful children. My youngest is nearly two. I've done some exercise in fits and starts; a bit of swimming, exercise videos, the odd circuit training class but I wouldn't call myself fit. I'd like to get back into running but am not sure of the best way to start. Obviously I could just open the front door and go for it but is there a better way? For instance some kind of planned walk/ run intervals rather than just stopping when I'm knackered? I'm probably going to get dragged off to play with the kids soon but will be back later and will be grateful for any tips.

A lot of people on here have had success by following the Couch to 5k regime.

There are quite a lot of threads about it. A recent one here

I have a 'get running' app on my iphone which I think is more or less the same. There are several similar running programs. If you Google couch to 5k lots comes up.

However, despite all my good intentions I haven't started mine yet Blush

Good luck!

Couch to 5k!! Tis perfect. I was running 20k regularly up till about 2 years ago but for one reason or another I gradually gave up. Tried many times to start again but never managed it. cto5k is doing the trick - it gives you the motivation and the encouragement.

You can download the NHS one.

I couldn't resist sneaking back online and will definitely check out Couch to 5k which sounds perfect.

Should have also said thanks. Going to have to deal with crazy, screeching wrestling sounds now!

I did the get running app and it was great. Gave up after the nine weeks though. My friend who did it at the same time kept it up and has done a half marathon. I reinstalled it last night and am trying not to lose willpower and actually go out and run tonight. Have set a new "pumping" playlist up and everything!

Have downloaded the podcast for week one and hope to head out later this evening. I hope you get out too WipsGlitter, you too Fruitshoots!

Well done curley! Grin

I did week 5 run 2 yesterday. Still reeling!

curlytoes · 03/04/2012 15:58

Hey good stuff OrmIrian. When I read the overview of the programme I thought 9 weeks to get to 5k? 5k's not far I might start half way through this. Then I listened to the podcast saying, 'don't be tempted to skip a few weeks!' and so I dutifully started on run 1, week 1. I found it quite challenging and am feeling it today! So much for my over confidence. I enjoyed it though and will try to stick to it. Week 5 sound fab.

Yes, me too! Grin Glad I didn't. THat has been my problem all the time - overconfidence and pushing myself too fast. I will confess to missing out the last week 2 run though.

OrmIrian - I'm glad it's not just me then!
