I don't want to brag and I hope it doesn't come across this way but today I achieved a goal I set at new year.

I ran a 10k race, without walking any of it, in 1 hr 21 mins. The only thing that makes this remarkable in any way is that not only am I the most unfit person you could ever hope to meet but when I started training 12 weeks ago I couldn't even run a mile without stopping and thinking I was dying. Tbh I walked most of that first mile.

I really didn't think I physically could but for those days when you think its never going to happen sometimes it can. Truly if I can do it, anyone else (excluding injury/medical problems) can too. Don't give up hope!

Oooh I did too! It wasn't the Wimbledon Audi 10k was it?

Well done by the way! Fantastic effort, you should be very proud of yourself!

learningtofly · 25/03/2012 19:28

No sorry it was Lincoln 10k but well done too!

I am still buzzing a bit - I am most proud of proving myself wrong, I spent so much time thinking I couldn't do it when actually I could :)

It's an incredible feeling isn't it!?

So you'll be signing up for a half marathon next then....? (Yes you can!)

Wow well done I am most impressed! I have started couch to 5k soooo many times Sad

frazzlerock · 25/03/2012 19:44

Do it!
I promise you won't regret it. Sign up right now. You've got ages to train.
My first race was the British 10k last year then I immediately signed up for Run to the Beat last year. I'm now well and truly addicted!
I'm doing four this year; The one next weekend, Bristol, Cardiff and RTTB again.
Do it, do it, do it!

Congratulations, well done. Hope you are having a treat tonight.

learningtofly · 25/03/2012 20:31

I am having some beer tonight whilst planning my next challenge!

kellamity honestly if I can do it you can too! I started by running a song, walking a song and worked up from there. I needed a goal to work towards otherwise I'd have fallen off the wagon weeks ago. Knowing it was looming and that everyone knew I was signed up for it kept me going

well done learningtofly! I agree with frazzle - sign up for a half marathon. Maybe see if there is a 5mile race near you as a sort of half way between a 10k and half marathon.
Frazzle - I did the paddock wood yesterday. How did you get on? I did a PB and am pretty pleased although I have very sore legs and glutes today Grin

Mrsrobertduvall · 02/04/2012 15:18

Oh well done..that is fantastic.
I am lying here moaning as I did a 100m relay at the Olympic stadium yesterday, and everything hurts.
I go to the gym regularly but am not a sprinter...can manage a 5k but can't run fast.

frazzlerock · 02/04/2012 20:03

Her Clure - Fantastic! I also beat my PB. 1hr 44 mins. Only shaved 1 minute off but my last PB was 10 minutes faster so I'm happy with that.
I intend to smash it in Bristol Grin
It was a lovely course don't you think? Did you see the crazy fool guy running barefoot?
I'm thinking of signing up for the British 10k. I did it last year and loved it. I've also just been made aware of the Southend half in June....

frazzlerock · 02/04/2012 20:03

*Hey not her

Clure · 03/04/2012 00:37

frazzle it was a lovely flat course, think this is my 4th year doing it, didn't see that barefoot guy but did see a couple tied together by ankle and wrist she with a veil they getting married next week! Can you imagine the effort of synchronised pacing??!! Well done on your time too.
