I want to take my kids to London for the Olympics, what do you think?

Hi all,

I am a real sports fanatic and although I didn't manage to get tickets to the games I am really keen to head to London this summer with the kids just to soak up some of the atmosphere and to try and catch some of the free events like the marathons. But having spoke to a few of my friends I'm now starting to think I could be mad! Is anybody else doing the same...if so what's your plan, is there an affordable way to do this? All input appreciated!

We've got tickets, and plan to camp - theres lots of temporary sites being created including one very near the olympic village.

The road race (cycling) is free to view some of, too.
Good idea, if you think you're up for it!

Where are you in the country? Will you have to find some overnight accommodation? The cycling road race is very near our home so I'm going to try and take the kids to see some of that. Definitely taking them to the torch relay too when it goes through our town.

What ages are your children and do they share your love of sport?

Thanks for your replies, it has taken me a while to find my posts, I'm useless!

I have actually booked a couple of nights at Surbiton Hockey Club and at Weymouth College through a site called Camping At The Games. I didn't think I could face Central London in the end, so I am heading to Hampton Court for the Time Trials and then to Weymouth to for the sailing, plus we can hit the beach. I am heading down from the Midlands so will be having a little tour, I'm not pitching a tent more than once though so have gone for pre-erected camping!

The kids ( Emily and Daniel) are 6 and 9 so they are statring to get into their sports and are very excited about seeing the "lympics". I will also be taking them to see the Torch Relay, I think it's a fantastic way to get the country involved. Have you thought about heading to Weymouth?
