hiking socks for DS

DS is going hiking with the scouts shortly and today we've bought some proper hiking boots but the socks on offer were fairly limited. I'm assuming pure wool will be best (especially as DS does seem to have particularly sweaty feet Smile).
Are there any that any of you would recommend please?

TIA

If it's going to be cold and wet, a thin merino wool liner sock, and a thick merino wook hiking sock outside - you can also then carry more liners and change them more frequently if necessary. That's not going to be particularly cheap option though, and possible overkill for short day hikes in the relative warmth of the UK.

Generally though, two layers work really well, so a thin liner and a thick layer. non-wool options will simply smell more, feel wetter and more miserable and not keep you as warm once they get a bit damp.

thanks very much FFG. Any particular retailer you would recommend?

No preference at all, just wherever is cheap online, only used physical shops when overseas I'm afraid, and online just purely on price.
