Equipment required for 30 day shred

Hello!

I've just ordered the DVD, but think I'll need a set of dumbbells/handweights as well, correct?

How are they used in the program? Are they held throughout for cardio, or used for individual exercises like curls? Want to make sure I'm not either dying while trying to lug huge weights through a cardio workout, or conversely, sitting doing reps with something weighing less than a soup tin.

Any help greatly appreciated!

Thanks!!!

I do it with no equipment at all. I do it on the rug in the kids playroom when they're out in the morning and use tins.
They are used for the strength component and occasionally at other times.

You can start off with tins or bottles of water, that way you can get started whilst getting an idea of what weight suits.

You will need some weights yes, though you can start it without or just using water bottles/food cans at first (especially if you are not very fit as that makes a gentle introduction!).

They are used mainly for strength exercises e.g. bicep curls, shoulder raises etc, but once you get to level 3 they are also used for some of the cardio (star jumps for example), so best to have ones you can jump around with a bit i.e. not too big and clunky!

I found the strength exercises very variable, some I could do quite easily so should maybe have a heavier weight, but others were much harder and I could do better with a lighter weight (mine are 2k). So if you can afford it, it might be worth considering a set with a choice of weights. (I bought DH a set of 6 that was half-price in Argos at Christmas and might still be if you're lucky, though the biggest ones are quite large.) Just watch out as some shops sell them individually rather than in pairs, so check what you're getting!

You will probably also want a mat of some sort for the ab bits, but nothing else.

I use a folded up bath towel for the floor bits, refuse to buy a mat

I use proper weights, bought them in argos with my nectar points, they were reduced

Wonderful, thanks so much!!! Have noticed the "single weight" sellers, thanks for the heads up!

I started just with tins as well. Now have handheld 1kg weights but haven't done the shred for quite a while...

How much room do you need? I have a small square of space in front of the TV. Can it be done pretty much on the spot or will I have to be leaping around? Thanks

MyNameIsInigoMontoya · 29/01/2012 19:30

Ummm, depends how small... in level 1 (and 3 as far as I can remember) you don't need a huge amount of space but do need enough for a mat (if you want one) for abs, plus enough space to do starjumps, forward/backward lunges and stuff. There is one bit in level 2 which needs a bit more sideways space ("skaters") but you might be able to modify it.

OK thanks Inigo - should be OK if I move the coffee table Grin
