Does anyone run with a head torch??

DH had started some serious running training for an event next year. The problem is that we live in a very rural area with no street lights so at this time of year, much of his running is in the dark by necessity. There are also no pavements around here.

I have bought him a hi-vis running top for Christmas at his request but I was wondering if I should also get him a head torch. Has anyone actually run with a head torch or is the whole idea quite impractical?

Yes, when I run at night I always use one for the unlit bits.

Check out alpkit. Co. UK, they do one for £12. 50 delivered which is great. It also has a red light on the back so people can see you from behind.

You can get much more pricey ones which I am guessing would be alot brighter but the alpkit one serves me fine.

I don't find it moves while running but I do wear a hat under it to stop it digging in to my head.

Excellent - that was exactly what I was wondering about, whether it would stay in place or jiggle about too much. I like the idea of the red light for the back too. Also, its good that its so reasonable so that if DH doesn't get on with it, I won't be a massive waste.

My husband runs with a little flashing light that attaches to his back pocket. He says it doesn't jiggle about too much.

He also likes to joke around and pretend he's going to attach it to the front. This is what I have to live with Grin.

I think if he is running on roads he is best off being lit up like a Christmas treeGrin I just looked and the alpkit one has a strap which goes across the top of the head as well which I think helps make it more stable.

Trail running magazine this month has a feature about head torches. Some of them were really pricey but I guess if you are going off road in the dark you need it!

I have flashing armbands as well which have red led lights on them. They only cost about £5 for the 2 from amazon. And a high viz hat from gore running which is a fetching shade of fluorescent yellow with relfective strips. I look a right sight when I go out running in the dark......Grin

Poundland had high viz thin arm/leg bands in that flashed as well
