Well done on smashing your pb drno ! What no medal ?! I did an 8 miler this year with no medal - I felt bit cheated. Although the mug they gave out is probably more practical...

Well done too fanny esp with those hills. Look fwd to race report.

And great run ange. That's what I call a goody bag. Beer sweets and crisps ! Sorry to hear about your dad.

Glad all is going well peach

Following monkeys request re local hills does anyone local to me have ideas on hills I might not have thought of as everyone, bar monkey ignored yesterday's legitimate running question re hills Wink ?

Dh is trying to convince me out of a 10k on 4 Dec on grounds we're away the w/e before and after and hosting Christmas and have lots to do. But I'd really like to do it as haven't raced a 10k since last year. It's 915 in the morning and v local. What d'ya reckon ?

Wheelybug · 20/11/2011 19:58

Oh and would anyone like a copy of this www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/1861269633/ref=mp_s_a_1?qid=1321818974&sr=8-1. I have 2 copies.

fannybanjo · 20/11/2011 19:58

Firstly - Well done drno and Ange. DrNo* I bet you're chuffed to bits! Loved the race report, especially the steaming DH and you killing each other! Funny how races turn us into absolute bastards.

Ange well done, amazing time considering you've not been running long (am I right in this assumption...?) sorry to hear about your dad, I hope he can recover.

thank you all for your wishes. I'm in bed. Totally wiped out. The toenails I'm used to, have had missing ones/new ones growing back for past year or so however my two big ones came loose during race without me knowing they would and it was pretty painful. Had sand in trainers and between toes which caused chaffing too. First time in 10 years of running that my feet have truly suffered.

FANNY'S COCKWATCH RACE REPORT

Won't bore youse with the shindigs of Fanny fambo however last nights tea was Dominos, yesterday's lunch was McDonalds and breakfast today was Double Bacon Egg MCMuffin and Hash Brown (me not the kids!). My friend couldn't believe how much junk I'd eaten but it was a scientific experiment...

Got to Conwy at 10.15 (race starts at 12) and collected number. Chip was attached to number which was new to me. DD1 did fun run and did good. Larked about for an hour then had two pisses and got into starting "zone" right outside Castle. Conwy stunning - very surprised. Spent 10 mins discussing my armpit hairs, lack of a good shit this morning, totting up calorie count of past 24 hours (5000) and what colour club vest would suit us best (green) - usual warm up chit chat.

Race started. Fanny pack nearly got lashed into the Marina. I have a small waist and it doesn't suit fanny packs well. (should have bought the Nathan one Noshi recommended... Hmm). Started off well, very tight knit run for first 3 miles, along beach and pretty sandy in places. Pace was between 7.50 and 8.00. Felt good.

4th mile and up the Orme. Twat of a hill, never ending and one I won't revisit for a while, unless I'm skateboarding down it. Continual for 4 miles but kept pace in the 8.30- 9.30 pace. My friend 10 paces ahead of me.

Finally got to top and actually cheered to myself out loud, was so grateful. Here's were I started to suffer, on the decline my feet were in agony. Shoulders were aching. Friend flew down the hill but I couldn't put as good as run into it, was so painful. Only a mile of recovery then back on the beach and wading through sand. Lost sight of friend. Twisted ankle and thought I was going to have to pull over. Carried on and got to last mile. Felt ok, speeded up slightly but felt dehydrated (all the salt in junk obviously...Hmm) and was going dizzy, didn't even see fambo properly at finish. Was tiny bit disappointed at time as if only I'd shaved X seconds off the downhill, I'd have been in the 1.48 bracket. Hindsight hey!?

Felt pretty ill at finish, eyesight went blurred, had to see St Johns, they confirmed dehydration. Didn't drink enough water this morning or during. Serves me right.

Chip time was 1.49.37. However I'm shocked as no way did I think I'd manage sub 1.50 on a tough course. If this one had been before Lancaster, I'd have pissed Lancaster.

Most importantly, no cocks. Grin not one fucking cock to share with youse. Sorry, I've let you all down. Sad Conwy Cockwatch was a big Cocknowt.

I feel bit down after it, I know I messed up in places and feel like I need to push myself more out of my comfort zone. However each HM I do, I learn so much more.

I'll post splits and stats when I'm on computer.

If you got this far, you can have my medal.

futurity · 20/11/2011 20:01

Yes please Wheely ..how come you have two copies?

fannybanjo · 20/11/2011 20:05

wheely in my state I can't remember if it was you or monkey who posted Garmin route re hills. However the Garmin site wouldn't let me view the link. I'd do the race, you'll be finished within 45 mins! Tell him to stop being a killjoy or better still, do some rubbing to make up for it.

OP posts:
Wheelybug · 20/11/2011 20:06

Dh bought me a copy last year. Then I lost it and my bro gave me his copy . I've spent the w/e clearing out my dumping room study and found my copy. PM or FB me your address and i'll post (prob tuesday)

futurity · 20/11/2011 20:08

fanny I read it all but I won't take your medal..you deserve it! Great report...made me laugh but also made me feel everything you went through ...dehydration sounded very grim..you take care of yourself tonight!

Wheelybug · 20/11/2011 20:09

Great report Fanny - sorry you're feeling rubbish. Sounds like you should have had pasta salad instead the day before but even so, a v. Impressive time over such a course.

futurity · 20/11/2011 20:12

Just PM you..hope it gets to you ok as not done it through my phone before!

fannybanjo · 20/11/2011 20:12

Thanks - oh yes, I knew it was silly idea but I think you all know, I'm not normal. I wanted to see if the high calories and carbs would make me faster... Grin. It obviously did something as I didn't need ANY fuel during the race.

OP posts:
rhetorician · 20/11/2011 20:12

wheely sure - always happy to read about running :)

fanny, drno and ange our very own racing stars - all brilliant performances.

fanny great report and great time - the Orme is a fucker, I agree (I haven't run up it) - disappointing not to be able to cash in on the descents, but you did good.

I have all my toenails currently, although I certainly have lost a few over the years - but they aren't pretty :(

Did a good 10 miler today - very mild out and ran a circuit of the park as it means that I am not so far away at any given point - if I run a straightforward out and back along the canal (my usual long run) then I might be 7-8 miles away at the furthest point. It was a good run, and I felt good after the first couple of miles, where my calves were stiff - I even added a bit on at the end, as I was worried that I might not quite crack the 10 miles.

DP have decided that it is time to crack down a bit on discipline with DD - she too often doesn't listen and it's hard to get her to do as she's told (I know, I know) - she's basically pretty good, but I think we are giving her slightly too much rope and she now knows how to argue (I told her that she couldn't wash her toys' 'hands' today because they don't have hands - she produced Peppa Pig and said triumphantly ' look, hands, mummy, she has FINGERS!')

had a good weekend - sorry about your dad ange - it must be very hard for him - I can't imagine how I'd feel if I wasn't able to run, however slowly

Wheelybug · 20/11/2011 20:17

Thanks fanny re hills, don't worry now in your weakened state (mops Fanny's brow)

Yes will prob do 10k although not in 45 mins.

rhetorician · 20/11/2011 20:20

wheely think futurity has first dibs on your book - she got there before me (which should be my running epitaph!!)

DrNortherner · 20/11/2011 20:21

fanny great report. You really think a green club vest will suit you best? My club vest is red and yellow, but today I ran in a charity tee. In my club vest I feel a bit like 'all the gear no idea'....

5000 calories hey? Wow. People were whacking gels into them on my 10 k today oddly enough.

I am now drinking tea and eating a box of maltesers, Happy days. I am so ready for tonight but dh is making it clear he wants a shag Hmm

Wheelybug · 20/11/2011 20:22

Sorry rhet - futurity beat you to it (did my post read like i was giving away both copies ? Sorry - I'd like to keep hold of one)

Wheelybug · 20/11/2011 20:23

Cross post rhet

fannybanjo · 20/11/2011 20:27

Ladies and gent. It's a miracle. I have nothing to say because I'm too rubbed out to type. Good night, god bless and say a prayer I'm still alive at 6 bells tomorrow morning. DrNo tell your DH to toss himself off.

OP posts:
futurity · 20/11/2011 20:32

Sorry rhet ...thanks wheely !

rhetorician · 20/11/2011 20:38

futurity no worries, you beat me fair and square!

monkeyLFDTwench · 20/11/2011 20:43

Speaking of which .... Was watching Sarah Millican on a chat show the other night and someone was asking what the guests did if they had trouble sleeping. She said "oh I normally just - um - sort meself out. I don't enjoy it like, it's purely medicinal." DH and I were falling about laughing!

MoshiMoshi · 20/11/2011 21:29

An easy 6M rub with the dog tonight. Perceived pace is quite different in the dark and came out around 7:45m/m whereas I thought I was running around 8:30m/m. Better a bit nippy than to be caught by the current weirdo stalking female rubbers along the West London towpaths.

DrNo - does your DH have a box of tummy wipes his side of the bed? I make sure mine does. It might help? Mind you, I have yet to convince mine to use them for the right purpose...

sfxmum · 20/11/2011 21:36

moshi I thought there had been arrests on the weirdo stalker? has it continued? I have avoided going all the way to Richmond at quiet week day times even though it is one of my favourite routes

MoshiMoshi · 20/11/2011 21:42

sfx - I hadn't heard that he had been caught but that would be a relief if it is true! I kind of assume he is a bit rubbish as he seems to be a bit ineffective. Plus the dog is a bit of extra protection (in addition to speedy shoes!) Will ask around and let you know what I find out!

orangeLFDThead · 20/11/2011 21:44

Ange well done, and sorry to hear about your dad.
fanny great race report, sorry you had a rough time I think some pampering due this weekend.
