dd's cousin suggested 'chicken'...she's 3

orangeLFDThead · 26/11/2011 20:24

He not doing to bad at the moment, still weak but not as bad as he was. He keeps getting chest infections and pneumonia and things look really bad then he seems to get through it. Thankyou for asking

sfxmum · 26/11/2011 20:28

rhet dd suggests Lydia or Gertrude Grin

Jezabelle · 26/11/2011 20:29

Thanks all for your good luck wishes. Thanks Ange for that tip. I think that's just the sort of thing that would freak me out!

stickyLFDTfingers · 26/11/2011 22:02

orange well done on your PB! Keep on chipping away at it. Tho don't you have a hill in your run? Perhaps just cheat and find a flat one! Wink. I feel happy all week when I get a park run PB :)

Yay fanny! I think I took a couple of days to answer, so sure no probs. They want your money, after all! I think you'll love park run.

sfx I rather like Lydia!

rhetorician · 26/11/2011 22:04

my granny was Gertrude...trudy to her friends (she also used to put a large slug of Johnnie Walker in my tea in the mornings - when I was about 6 :o)

stickyLFDTfingers · 26/11/2011 22:12

Grin nothing like being introduced to alcohol early. I had similar experiences, but with sherry! Still partial to a nice dry sherry.

I wonder will there be a Gertrude revival, given all the Marthas and Rubies etc? I guess if it didn't catch on after ET, it wasn't going to.

June2009 · 26/11/2011 22:18

Good luck to the runners tomorrow :D

I'm sorry my contribution to the thread is sporadic at best, I've kept up just about enough to know peach has given birth (congrats :D) but rhet's dp hasn't yet :D
rhet The couple of people I had shared my dd's potential name with prior to her birth really weren't keen on it. (her name's Calypso). I didn't care though because I knew that's what it was going to be. No one has told me to my face they didn't like it since she was born.
A friend of mine chose a really old fashioned name for her baby son (Gaspard) and at first when I heard it I thought she was crazy and it must have been the pregnancy hormones or something, but I met him and it so suited him and it's actually really lovely and unique.

I'm doing this body combat marathon tomorrow, 3 hours non stop, should be fun. The next event is a spinning one (virgin active world record of number of people doing a spin class at the same time, anyone heard of it or doing it on here?) just a bit of fun.

And then I really want to find something out of my comfort zone. Any suggestions for a bit of an alternative race? (with mud or obstacles?)
Someone mentionned a triathlon with indoor swimming pool, maybe I'll look for something like that.
Time for bed me thinks.

peachLFDTsmuggler · 26/11/2011 22:23

Oh I love Gertrude, it's very sweet. I like Lydia too. Don't know about anywhere else, but in Glasgow you will always be called Lydia Teapot.

Right ladies, the endless night of feeding awaits me so am going to get some shut eye while K slumbers downstairs with DP.

Night!

orangeLFDThead · 26/11/2011 22:23

It has 4 hills in it sticky.
I had great aunt Gertrude but called her auntie Gert and sometmes Gertie. She was like a female version of Tommy Copper. She was so funny. Whenever I hear that name I always makes me think the person is a right character.

stickyLFDTfingers · 26/11/2011 22:25

Lydia Dustbin (tho not sure it was geographic, just my silly Dad). Night peach, hope you get a few extra minutes tonight.

orangeLFDThead · 26/11/2011 22:26

Never heard of Lydia teapot peach. Hope you havea good night.

DrNortherner · 26/11/2011 23:17

Lydia Dustbin was one of my Dad's sayings too, along with Isabel neccassary on riding on a bike?.....God I miss him.

Race day tomorrow. Thinking of you all.

My IT band hurts...........

SonicMiddleAge · 27/11/2011 03:57

Proper report tomorrow, but can safely say the scary sounding wa marathoners club are actually lovely folk, and did me 15k in 78:16 off a target of 80, so quite cuffed. Good luck everyone else running today!

squix · 27/11/2011 08:07

Wow sonic great time!

Right, that's me porridged up and ready to go. V little sleep due to noise of wind and rain - doesn't bode well. Off to pick up friend, back later - probably very windswept!

ibbydibby · 27/11/2011 08:30

sonic great time well done. Squix v noisy night here too - gusty wind. Kept me awake for 2 - 3 hours (though the nerves probably contibuted as well) It seems to have dropped a little now, replaced by pouring rain. Hoping it will clear.....hope weather better for other runners today! Good luck all

monkeyLFDTwench · 27/11/2011 09:07

Good luck rubbers, good luck June with the body combat. I love Calypso, always makes me think of the girl in The Camomile Lawn.

And well done sonic you came in well under your target!

Am going to read up properly now in spite of my sore head (class Christmas party last night!)

fannybanjo · 27/11/2011 09:24

Good luck again racing rubbers.

Sonic great time! Well done, how was the weather? My friend has looked at the WA marathon runners page, it's a bit far from where she'll eventually live, I think she'll be Southern Perth.

I want to do the Loch Ness Marathon. It'd kill me but I still want to do it.

OP posts:
monkeyLFDTwench · 27/11/2011 09:25

Oh and I know a Masha too (she is Russian to be fair) - lovely little girl. Her brother is called Sasha, so it's easy to get confused! Her mum is called Tatiana, which ds2 always had great difficulty saying, it used to come out as TattyBanana, which luckily she confessed she rather liked.

Quiet day today, just swimming lessons. Did 8.5 miles with my friend yesterday, she took me on a really good hilly route and nearly bloody killed me. Did me good though, to do something different.

futurity I think I may steal your half training plan.

rhetorician · 27/11/2011 10:03

sonic that's fab; wild and windy here too in the night, but clear and calm now. I'll head out for a few miles later on - but I think long runs are on the (as they say around here) the long finger for the time being. It doesn't matter as I'm not planning on racing until at least April (except for the 5k on Sat, depending). I do like to keep a few longer runs in there, but every couple of weeks is fine.

Calypso is a great name - have similar associations to monkey; DD is trying to encourage her sister to appear by shouting 'come out!' to DP's tummy :o

futurity · 27/11/2011 10:51

monkey - steal my training plan? You mean the smart coach thing?

I was meant to do 2 miles today according to it but just did 11 mile bike ride instead ..in 21mph wind...bad idea! Good work out but my word it was hard!

fannybanjo · 27/11/2011 11:04

futurity bloody hell, running bad enough in the wind but cycling... Shock

rhet you've got NO races planned until
April?!

DD2 currently Shredding!! She's done it more than me. She's 4 Blush. I'm having to clean the carpet where DD3 has added a lovely mural of blue lines in felt tip pen. HmmAngry

Right, would I be totally crazy to do GNR on 16 September then Loch Ness marathon 2 weeks later... GNR could be good training run for the Loch Ness? Good idea of what times I could be looking at. Logistics not great though, it'd mean 2 weekends of being away. Costly too. Hmm I really wanna do them both.

OP posts:
futurity · 27/11/2011 11:15

fanny I'd say do them both if you can...but I am the stupid person who just went cycling in the wind Smile am now watching Merlin with the kids and eating muffin (and I wonder why I never lose weight!)

rhetorician · 27/11/2011 11:34

that loch ness one looks fun - and for a hill veteran like you it's mostly down...

do you think I should plan a race before April? my plan was to build base miles until end of Jan (and I thought this would be possible around domestic demands + work etc), and then go into a 12 week 10k plan. And after that probably the 5 mile, 10 mile, and half series I did this year, plus the forest 10k again, plus the Glendalough Trail, plus possible marathon. 6 a year seems about right to me, but perhaps I should do more - am relying on fanny to shout at me...

Wheelybug · 27/11/2011 12:02

Well done sonic great time - how hot was it ?

Hope todays races have gone well. And thebody combat marathon.

On the south coast - 6 miles yesterday along sea front , v.v. wild and woolly. Great training though against the winds
