Hello!

I'd rather stay out of the Conception Boards so hope you don't mind my asking a dumbass newbie question in here

I have a BMI of 32 and need to get it down to 30 for Fertility Treatment reasons, which is about 18lb. There is a chance that I could get pregnant before FT starts.

I am unfit in a moderately fit sort of way, if that makes sense: ie I am 3 stone overweight and couldn't possibly run longer than about 2 minutes, but I walk a great deal and think nothing of a 10 mile country walk as long as there is beer and pie at the end

I am doing the C25K programme.

DH is a touch worried about my doing it when a) I could just be pregnant already for all we know (unlikely but one remains an optimist!) and b) I might get pregnant naturally in due course.

I have told him I believe it's safe. I'm not running so hard I have an asthma attack and throw up, for goodness' sake - at the moment it's 60 second bursts!

Some thoughts would be really helpful and obviously if I do get up the spout I'll be asking the GP, but it'd be nice to have an informed view beforehand...

Not sure I can be of any great help but didn't want to leave you unanswered.

I know that we were ttc for nearly 2 years with dd and had just had our first appointment at the fertility clinic. I had largely given to on conceiving naturally so focussed on training; was running twice a week (managed to increase the distance to 10k before I realised I was pg) paddling 3x a week and swimming for cross training.

As it happened I got pregnant the week we went to the clinic and was happily intending on doing my first 10k race at 6 weeks but had such a bad cold I could barely get out of my own way. Kept racing kayaks until about 24 weeks albeit much slower!

As long as you take it easy I would think you'll not risk yourself, tour chances if conceiving or your baby when you do.

Good luck!

Hello, I'll be your buddy if you like. I've just started running ie I did my first run today! and I'm ttc. We've been ttc for 2 years. We've just found out it's male fertility issue so while that's being put right, I'm planning to run a 10k in March. I too have a BMI of just over 30. From what I know, you shouldn't start running when pregnant but when ttc is fine. Obviously it depends on when you get diffed as to whether or not you carry on...basically it's the dramatic temperature changes that cause a problem in pregnancy but if you've been running for a while it's ok to keep running. There's no need to worry about exercise during the tww, in fact, exercise helps my pms.
There may be more people who know more who will Chip in, but that's the basics as I understand them.
