It was a pigeon! It fell right down & got stuck at the bottom of the chimney flapping away when we were all lying on the living room floor playing. None of us have ever moved so fast. The boys and I hid upstairs while dh rescued the daft thing.

Did parkrun this morning & found it tough. Think I ate too much breakfast and really struggled in the 2nd lap with a stitch and tummy ache. Did it in 27.05 which was 30 secs slower than last time.
Then I ran the 2 miles home then when I got in ds1 wanted to go for a run and I couldn't say no so off we went. He did 1.5miles in 18 mins which I thought was pretty good.

This aft we went to a park and ds1 learned to ride his bike without stabilisers so a good day for him Smile

Dh was slagging me off for setting sky+ to record GNR and didn't believe me when I said it was a bigger race than VLM.

fannybanjo · 17/09/2011 18:26

Squix poor you, hope your ankle doesn't play up. Be careful on it, my wrist still not right and if I do anything strenuous I pay the price.

Debi great time for parkrun, I intend to do one in a couple of weeks. Thank god for DHs hey?! Rescuing you all from a pigeon! I'd have been the same - if the cats bring mice in, it's like a comedy with me running around house screaming! We are just on our way to hotel in Durham and was reading your post as we were pulling out onto our main road - when I read "sky plus GNR" I screeched!! DH had to turn around so I could go back and record it! He weren't happy... He can't wait for it to be over.

Themasterandmargaritas · 17/09/2011 18:47

Fanny 'calm down, calm down'

This GNR excitement is obviously building. I feel quite Envy. Good luck y'all. I hope you are running in pink Fanny. Smile. I wonder if the GNR is equally exciting to the South Africans who rip me off give me my satellite TV? GNR or Rugby World Cup? It'd be a tough call for them. Wink

I am now also adding Fanny Pack to the never ending list of running equipment needed. I also have small wrists, perhaps there a small wrist syndrome peculiar only to female MN runners? Grin

My running this week has been stymied by homework. Dd has real homework for the first time in years and we she is finding it hard. Also late wine-fuelled nights school runs, football and pony riding drop offs and supermarkets are filling my running time.

15k today up the hill, in 1.27 I've now got a post-run headache.

tulip27 · 17/09/2011 19:25

10k was today, I found running with others so much harder than on my own. I think I made a few rookie errors. Error no 1- I let everyone pass me at the beginning thinking that I would just pass them all when we got through the next 1k, however, track seemed to be so narrow I just couldn't get past them.
Error no 2- I wasted so much energy trying to get past people it just became stressful and I couldn't find 'my' pace. Error no 3- didn't speed up enough at the end as overestimated the miles left to go, couldn't believe it when I rounded the corner and the finish line appeared 5 minutes too soon.

Oh Lord, am now panicking about next weekends HM.
Advice anyone?

orangehead · 17/09/2011 20:07

Welcome Cote
Well done on the 3miles futurity

rhetorician · 17/09/2011 20:10

futurity I think that I am not without challenge for slowest runner on the thread...well done you!

good luck to all GNR-ers tomorrow - hopefully you will all be at the finish line eating pies/crisps by the time I get back from my long run tomorrow morning - which I am determined will not be derailed by anything. At all. Even hail. Or snow. :o

orangehead · 17/09/2011 20:13

oh tulip sorry you found it tough. Have not got much advice, but at least you can id the problems and try and learn from them. Which hm are you doing? Usually after intial first k not so hard to get past people. Hopefully more room on your hm

rhetorician · 17/09/2011 20:16

that should say now without challenge! Blush

backwardpossom · 17/09/2011 20:37

Evening all! Just popping in to say good luck to everyone for the GNR tomorrow! Hope you all have a great run. I'll be thinking of you!

I've just checked the route of the 10k I'm doing tomorrow and it's pretty flat until the last 0.5km which is a monster uphill! How cruel is that?

tulip sorry your race was tough. What I try and do is work out what my pace needs to be per km/mile to get my target time - so for 10k I'm generally looking for 55mins (or as long as I'm under an hour at the moment!). I used to use my watch to get a rough handle on pace with the mile markers, but then got Nike+ on my iPod to be a bit more accurate. I've now got a Garmin so get instant feedback, although I can generally guess what pace I'm doing by how comfortable I feel. I'm sure it'll get easier the more you do. x

WishIwasCherryMenlove · 17/09/2011 21:22

Ah, so here you all are. Haven't been about for a few weeks as I've been busy with work and then we went on hols to Menorca last week. It was an ok holiday but I don't think Thompson family package hols are for us. Plus DS decided this was the best time to enter full blow toddlerdom - we seemed to be surrounded each evening by well behaved sweet German/Dutch toddlers whilst DS pulled half eaten food out of his mouth and threw it across the room

Anyway, managed a few runs whilst there, which was certainly different in the heat. I don't know how anyone manages races/running events in hot climes. I surprised myself however by how far I managed and it was lovely running along the coastal road looking out at the Med.

Good luck everyone for the GNR (Fanny and anyone else?) and other races for tomorrow. I have just planned my route for my big run tomorrow. 6 miles here I come!

futurity · 17/09/2011 21:31

You're not slow Rhet ..didn't you say you PB for 10k was 57 mins or something?! I have a 10k a week before my half and am planning on 59min 59 seconds so I can say I have done sub10k Smile

Am very pleased with my time earlier...although keep checking my Garmin to make sure it's not broken or something as I still don't believe I did that!

Will be watching the GNR tomorrow thinking of you all running!

futurity · 17/09/2011 21:32

Sub 1 hour 10k that should of said !

rhetorician · 17/09/2011 21:39

yeah, but was 3 years ago!!

OP posts:
orangehead · 17/09/2011 21:58

Good luck for tomorrow everyon Smile

futurity · 17/09/2011 21:58

Still impressive! I don't think I can keep up today's pace for a 10k..not yet anyway!

bonkers20 · 17/09/2011 22:09

GOOD LUCK TOMORROW to those who are running. May the weather be perfect, your limbs be strong and your spirit be soaring!

N4NNY · 17/09/2011 23:06

Good luck tomorrow everyone

DebiTheScot · 17/09/2011 23:13

Good Luck GNR's (and anyone else racing) Smile

MoshiMoshi · 18/09/2011 00:33

If windy tomorrow, tuck in behind a big tall person! Good luck racers!

Bad luck re ankle squix. Do go easy as it will be liable to happen again very soon unless strengthened and treated with care,

fannybanjo · 18/09/2011 06:11

Thanks everyone and good luck to everyone else running! Just woke up in hotel - ok sleep, better than thought I'd have (brought my own duvet and pillow Grin). Feel very nervous and excited. DH and DD1 going to come to start with me then when I go into pen they will make way to finish. Feel better that they're going to be with me at beginning.

Unfortunately I started my period early yesterday Hmm (long story re the Pill) so my legs are like lead but hey ho, not worrying about times etc, just going to enjoy the event!!

ibbydibby · 18/09/2011 08:45

Good luck to Fanny, Hamster, Run for fun, popsycal, LaLa and SLF for GNR today (hope I have remembered everyone, I copied these names from race list)

Fanny sorry about period. Grrrr.

Tulip sorry you found it stressful. As orange says the crowd should ease a bit after the first km or so. As its a half marathon, and your first, it may be useful to use this to your advantage. That is, I wouldn't be trying to pass them, but let their speed dictate your speed, so that you have more "go" left for later in the race for when it gets tougher. Am no expert, but I have usually found this tactic works for me.

Another thing I have found helpful is to get an idea of the course - is that a possibility for you? Is it a single lap? Or multiple laps? Could you run part of the course or cycle it, or drive it? I usually feel a lot better knowing what I have left myself in for (though realise this is not always possible!).

Rhet how are you doing with DP's birthday menu? Still pie, salad and cake?

Happy running everyone!

June2009 · 18/09/2011 09:00

Seriously, I turn around for 2 minutes and we're 6 pages into a new thread!!

Good luck to everyone racing today!

Thanks for the tips for next week's HM, wouldn't have thought of bringing comfy shoes, in fact I think my trainers are the "comfiest" thing I own :)
My number is printed on the t-shirt which is great, no need for pins. Mmm, chocolate bar, haven't had one of those in years, chocolate makes me really hyper (in a way I don't like). I am probably going to make some peanut butter cookies or something like that.

futurity · 18/09/2011 10:03

getting moist eyes at all the stories on the GNR coverage.

backwardpossom · 18/09/2011 10:29

Me too futurity! When they did the bit about the Red Arrows, I was in bits!

June - I took my crocs for the end of the half in Edinburgh - was bliss! Also, put your name on your running top - it's a great motivator when you're nearing the end and people are shouting your name!
