Tulip welcome and good luck sorry I missed you earlier

peach it is possible that daughter and nephew will want to shake your handGrin dd is desperate to see them live, seems all the rest of the family have done so even one of her little friends at Glasto. Total blast live, love them, last time I saw them was at Brixton Academy before the big Wembley stuff started

bonkers that sounds bad are you sure it is just a superficial wound?

probably running on Sunday not sure about tomorrow

orangehead · 16/09/2011 22:49

Don't try to more lady like Fanny, it won't be as funny.
Your dd does sound funny peachs. When ds1 went to preschool and we were dropping him of in the morning DS2 used to go in try to hang up his coat and start to play I used to have virtually drag him out screaming Blush. He got quite cunning in his ways to try and sneak in. The following year when it was time for him to start preschool. He didn't want to go then and would cry and scream for me to take him home. I couldn't win. When I asked the teacher a few weeks later how he was getting on. She paused then said 'well he is not ds1 is he' Shock. She quite clearly loved ds1 as she was always telling me how wonderful he was the year before. She never once commented on ds2 behaviour unless I asked and then she said werid stuff like that and 'well he is different'

peachsmuggler · 16/09/2011 22:52

Oh aye Paws, friend if the stars here. Well, friend of the stars when they were toddlers more like!

fanny, don't worry, we don't really do ladylike in Glasgow either! Aww bless your DC. It's hard being wee I think. DD spent rest of afternoon being great, including joining in at swimmming (a problem area in recent weeks) and giving me and Duckie Duck (currently in utero DD2) hugs.

orange, it's on bbc1 on Sunday morn, but not sure what time coverage starts I'm afraid.

Meant to say, hope you are ok DrNo, these things can creep up on you when you least expect them to. With all this playgroup stuff going on I was thinking the other day that I don't think I ever really settled in playgroup but wondered if my recollection was wrong. The only person who would have known would be my mum and she's nor here to ask anymore. It's times like that I feel most Sad.

stickylittlefingers · 16/09/2011 22:54

poor orangehead - it will pass and you will get better... I know the waiting's horrible (but if you're anything like me, once you're better you'll be slapping yourself on the forehead saying "why was I even thinking of running when I was feeling so shite?")

Bonkers I hope you're showing your knee to all passing children. They are so much more appreciative of battle wounds than adults are.

Rhet on Durham market they were selling T-shirts with "I love pies, me" written on them. perhaps I should send one over for your DP (would explain the bump). I was quite tempted myself (because I do - tho I prefer them meaty!)

fannybanjo · 16/09/2011 22:59

is it a kirby grip or a kids clip? Have to say our house is bordering on people thinking its Claires Accessories so you can keep your clip. Smarties however...

Bad idea buying 10 snacksize Snickers as fuel for GNR

Orange I was born without an ounce of decorum. HmmBlush

Pawsnclaws · 16/09/2011 23:00

These things can hit you unawares DrN - I think we can brace ourselves for birthdays, anniversaries etc but it's the unexpected little reminders that hit hard. I just got a Facebook notification from the page of a friend who died nearly two years ago (her page is still open) and it really unsettled me because it was unexpected.

peachsmuggler · 16/09/2011 23:00

sfx, it's great when a band you love does well, but such a pain as the venues get bigger and more crap. There's quite a lot of venues I won't go to even if I really like the band as there's no point.

Lol at orange's DS2 and his stealth like attempt to get into pre-school. I found myself the last couple of days feeling quite sensitive about the comments and wondering, what if they don't like her!!!! Which is ridiculous, as they have seen all this behaviour before, and a whole lot worse. DD2 really IS a bossy boots though, which I think she gets from me Blush

DebiTheScot · 16/09/2011 23:01

Good grief will you lot wheesht! I can't keep up!

orange I'm expecting those sorts of comments on my ds2 when he starts pre-schl in Jan too Grin

I didn't go for a run today, went to the pub was too busy after work then had cake to make.
Parkrun in the morning though.

There's something making all the soot in our chimney fall down, I'm jumping everytime more falls and expecting a pigeon to fall down any minute!

sfxmum · 16/09/2011 23:06

Peach I have a bossy boots too I don't think it is major problems I do hope yours settles without drama soon.
and btw there is always Marmaduke Duke for small venues and the odd surprise gigGrin

my sofa is clean now but I did hoover it this afternoon I do believe it might have been coming alive, had I given it a couple more days

CoteDAzur · 17/09/2011 08:12

Hi everyone - I'm trying to find courage to put my name down for this 10K in January, and would like to hang out here among real runners for a while Smile

I can run about half an hour and cover about 5K but am training at the moment to go up to the next level. Any tips are very welcome.

fannybanjo · 17/09/2011 10:03

Cote welcome! That 10K looks great - very Envy - I'm assuming you already have a training plan in place? If so, then keep following it as you have plenty of time and if you decide to go further than the 6 miles in training then that will help - however focus on getting yourself fit enough to finish the 10k. Good luck!

24 hours to go... One bowl of porridge with grated apple in - nowt out yet. Remind me not to have weetabix tomorrow. There would be shrapnel blowing out behind me if so. Can't run on weetabix. Baked potato for lunch then not sure for dinner - what are good snacks to carb up on?

sfxmum · 17/09/2011 10:29

smoothie made with yoghurt fruit and a scoop of oats? or a scoop of protein powder?

ibbydibby · 17/09/2011 10:29

Fanny - what about a familiar pasta dish for dinner ie no experimenting with new recipes!

How are all the GNRers today?

Must go - just back from parkrun (not good) - Tour of Britain cycle race is passing fairly close to us in a few hours and need to get showered, and installed in good viewing spot.

fannybanjo · 17/09/2011 10:51

sfx going to have a smoothie shortly. Smile

Ibby you're right - I'll do my crab linguine as I'm used to that and it's quite plain.

Ohhhh getting excited!! (can't you tell!)

ibbydibby · 17/09/2011 11:11

Fanny smoothie sounds good, try to make sure you drink enough water today as well...not excessive, but don't go without...

Yes, you do seem to be a little excited....feeling really envious!

futurity · 17/09/2011 11:15

Very happy with my run this morning..3 miles in 27min 45seconds..a whole 35 seconds faster than last week..and I didn't feel like throwing up this time..always a bonus!Smile

Looking forward to GNR on tv tomorrow...apparently there is athletics on at 1pm today and triathlon highlights later on ...happy slobbing in front of tv day !

stickylittlefingers · 17/09/2011 11:43

well done futurity! 35 seconds is a significant amount off... and great not to be chunderous also!

Once tomorrow is over, I'm wanting to get my 5k time better. It will be a nice change from thinking about 13 miles all the time (although I have noticed that the beginner plan for marathons from BUPA is much like the intermediate HM plan with some more tacked on the end. Hmmm).

Fanny I'm so pleased you are also slightly insanely excited - it makes me feel like less of a nutter Grin. It's pasta with bacon for the Fingers Family tonight. We got up so late I'm not sure lunch is going to be required Blush

Cote that looks fantastic! What should the weather be like then? What a beautiful place to run Envy

fannybanjo · 17/09/2011 11:54

I'm very Envy of you not being up long sticky! 6am during the week and a huge lie in until 7.20am this morning! However I always feel very disorganised when I'm up later than 7, can get so much done in that hour between 6 and 7.

Oh yes, very excited and nervous. Just getting running kit together, thrown my cap in as if it's raining then think it'll be handy. Weather forecast is light rain isn't it? Found an old fleece to put on for start which I can leave. Do you just throw it over the railings? God I must be boring everyone shitless with my incessant GNR questions - apologies everyone.

Well done futurity on knocking off that much!

Ibby why was park run not good?

stickylittlefingers · 17/09/2011 11:59

Fanny yep, just chuck it at the side of the road and it will be collected by the good elves who do all that clearing up and send the stuff off to charity.

No, I can say that looking at the clock, noticing it was 9:15 and thinking "normally I'd be halfway round the parkrun now" was a lovely feeling. And the girls were playing happily so I just put my ipod on and closed me eyes again. Lovely!

rhetorician · 17/09/2011 12:31

late start here too - 8.15 dd woke up...went to town, got her hair cut - she was great today, walked everywhere, held my hand. Just great. Now I have to go to the allotment to get veg for the residents' association harvest festival this afternoon. Hoping to get a run in, but not optimistic. I guess I'll just have to fall back on all the biking cardio I've done this week...

OP posts:
CoteDAzur · 17/09/2011 14:22

Sticky - Weather in Nice should be fairly mild in January - sunny but fresh enough to run comfortably without sweating profusely. It is a lovely 5 km stretch of road on the seaside called "Promenade des Anglais" Smile

CoteDAzur · 17/09/2011 14:30

Fanny - I'm doing a training program here which is basically 20 sessions with a fantastic personal trainer, during which you are also followed by a dietician and a sports doctor. I did this two years ago where they took me from zero 2-3 km. Now, they are taking me beyond 5k with loads of cardio & interval training. Last time I was doing 2 mins on 10 km/hr and recuperating at 1 min at 8 km/ hr which is still a run but obviously slower. The time before was 30 seconds at 11 km/hr and recuperating 1 min at 8 km/hr. I'm not sure how much all this is helping but will see tomorrow when I go outside for a long run on my own and see how far I've gone.

fannybanjo · 17/09/2011 14:39

rhet glad DD behaved Grin. You'll get out for your run soon and you'll really enjoy it. I have weeks like that were life is just too busy.

Cote haven't looked at your link as on my iPhone - will have a nose later however the intervals are similar to how I started and the only way to get your speed up - you will build your stamina naturally every time you run. Sounds like you've got it in the bag!

rhetorician · 17/09/2011 15:01

fanny yes, that's just it - have learned that I need to be more disciplined about blocking out my running time in each day...

OP posts:
squix · 17/09/2011 17:30

Good luck to everyone in the GNR tomorrow...another lot of race reports to look forward to.

I've pretty much had a week off running this week - I went out for my celeb filled run on Monday and then tripped on Tuesday and twisted my ankle. It was sore and swollen for a couple of days and I tried an easy 3 miles today - it seemed ok a wee bit stiff at the start and end but I iced it and it seems fine now. Will try a bit longer and a bit faster tomorrow, if for no other reason than I am incredibly grumpy with not being able to get out,
