Welcome runningallday. This probably is a bit thick, but is it near the Eden Project?!?

Debi, hope the shins are ok, sounds like a lovely day, bar the rugby score Sad

oooh Rhet, you've met her!!! This is the first book I've read of hers. She writes very well.

See how you go Wheely. I definitely think it's worth reducing mileage in this heat, as it can do more harm that good.

Welcome back Moshi, what a big decision you have to make. For what it's worth I think parental input and support has a massive impact on education so am sure your kids would do brilliantly wherever they go to school. It's a fantastic opportunity. How do you feel about leaving friends and family?

Good luck to all our Super Sunday racers, can't wait to hear the reports. Mind that sun cream and keep drinking that water!

peachsmuggler · 01/10/2011 22:19

Hope you feel better soon orange Smile

bonkers20 · 01/10/2011 22:31

Hello,
Just marking my place again. I'm not managing to run much at the moment for all the reasons we all have.

Anyway, I want to lose 4lbs. Anyone want to join me?

DS1 is meant to have a rugby match tomorrrow but I'm thinking the ground will be too hard for them to play. DH has offered to take both boys so I have a potential running window tomorrow morning. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

It was my Birthday on Monday and I'm IN my 40s now, not just 40.

Good luck to anyone racing tomorrow. Stay hydrated won't you.

bonkers20 · 01/10/2011 22:37

*Baroque is a style epoch. It was between the styles (or epochs) of Renaissance and Neoclassicism. This means it lasted from about 1575 to about 1770. At that time, there were absolutist monarchs in Europe. Baroque art is usually very playful and has many ornaments.
The movement started in Italy. It then spread to the Catholic countries in Europe. Finally, it also spread to the Protestant ones.
The word Baroque comes from Portuguese. There, barocco means something like strange. In Portuguese, it was first used for irregularly-shaped pearls. It was first used in France to mean works of art that did not follow the current trend. The baroque period was from 1600s to the 1750s

bonkers20 · 01/10/2011 22:39

OMG, what was that?! A cut and paste catastophe of DS1s homework (at least he's doing it I suppose).

It was meant to be a cut and paste of Quenelle's name to congratulate on the bfp! I'm sorry you're feeling sick. I did not run in either of my pregnancies. Just didn't fancy it after the sickness went.

rhetorician · 01/10/2011 22:51

bonkers :o well, I learned something, anyway :)

I will join you on the quest to lose 4lbs - I could do with dropping about 5-6 (3kgs - I am 61-2 [crap ikea scales, give different readings each time you step on], and would like to be about 58...)

what's the plan, then: I think I just need to cut out sweets/cakes/biscuits etc, and no alcohol (weekends excepted)

peachsmuggler · 01/10/2011 22:56

Grin, ha ha bonkers, there are worse things you could have pasted!

Happy birthday for last week!

bonkers20 · 01/10/2011 23:00

rhet a plan? oh well ermmm let's see.

Eat less junk and more fruit. There. I have a giant bag of Giant Chocolate buttons to finish. I'm not going to tell you what I weigh because I am not in the least bit overweight, I'm just not comfortable.

Oh, I'll run more as well.

ibbydibby · 02/10/2011 08:08

Moshi welcome back! Have missed your posts. Good luck with decision making.

Debi glad you are running today, as I have also decided to go for it. Calf better(ish) but who knows how it will be when I start running...The start list only has 134 runners listed at present, though they are letting people sign up on the day. Just a bit worried that I end up limping round hours behind.

Good luck to all other Super sunday runners.

Volunteered at parkrun yesterday, was pleased to be doing that to a) give my calf a rest and b) it was too hot to run. DH and DSs did it though, all getting PBs which they were pleased about. DH went for his "usual" 6.30am run with friends, though they are slower than him, so he often comes home feeling he could have gone further/faster. He showered, had breakfast, and came and run the parkrun Shock. He said he thought his early morning run helped, maybe that is the way to go?!

DS1 cut about 4 minutes off his PB, was v pleased for him as he struggles - he has poor muscle tone and not naturally athletic. He beat DS2 which has never happened before. DS2 also pleased with his time but obviously wanting to beat DS1's time now.

Out last night for hilarious quiz evening, including air guitar round. I do not know either of the tracks I "did", much to DH's disgust, am going to have find out for him!

Better get out of bed and have breakfast, need to leave home by 9am. EEk.

June2009 · 02/10/2011 08:10

heya, everybody running today must be on their way :)

what took me to 63kg to 56kg is diet basically. Eat 5 small meals a day instead of 3 big ones to keep your sugar levels constant (no more cravings).
I cut out all refined sugars (no biscuits, cakes, fizzy drinks etc.) I have followed one simple rule, if it's home made/baked, I'll try it. one or two pieces of fruit a day, no smoothies etc as there is too much sugar.
I also switched from white rice/bread/pasta to wholemeal everything and sweet potatoes. Before you think it's too hard or boring look up "eating clean" and Tosca Reno for recipes.
Portions are really important and I have protein at every meal. You can usually go by protein is the size of your palm, veggies the size of your whole hand, carbs the size of your fist closed, fat the size of your thumbnail.

dd calling, gotta go, will be thinking about races today :D

ibbydibby · 02/10/2011 08:12

PS Happy Birthday for last week Bonkers

squix · 02/10/2011 08:25

Just getting ready to go out and having to rethink our plans - it's pouring down here so DD and DH might not come with me.

Not sure if we'll hang round for DDs race either If they do come- there won't be anywhere dry to hang out while we wait.

squix · 02/10/2011 08:25

Ohhh and good luck everyone else running

N4NNY · 02/10/2011 08:37

Good Luck super Sunday runners:)

RunningAllDay · 02/10/2011 09:46

Thankyou all - you're very welcoming. Yes, peachsmuggler, it is by the Eden Project - hilly, ugh...

Good luck to all today's runners!!

rhetorician · 02/10/2011 10:43

hi RunningAllDay and welcome: June2009 that's a handy (geddit?) guide - I don't ever drink fizzy drinks and try to avoid cakes and biscuits, although they are often in the house. I snack regularly on brazil nuts, but could probably diversify. The days I am in my office are most difficult - I get hungry and there are limited options, so I need to plan a bit better.

Hope the morning's racers are performing as well as Ireland's rugby team :)

futurity · 02/10/2011 11:05

Did it! Man it was hot. Watch time 1 hour 55 seconds so PB in a race but didn't get my sub 1 hour but to be honest I was just glad to finish and not walk at all. Saw lots of people needing medical attention....grim!

runnerstipple · 02/10/2011 11:26

Hi runningallday - welcome, I just joined this thread last week so I'm still a newbie too.

bonkers20 and rhet, I'll join you in the quest to shift a few pounds too. I've managed to lose 7lbs since the children went back to school, which is pretty much what I put on over the holidays, but I could do with losing another stone or so (I've never quite managed to shift the weight I put on with DS3) and I'm pretty sure it would help me to run faster! I've done it by following WW (not entirely religiously Wink) and running a bit more often.

Anyway, I hope everyone had a good run today on Super Sunday. I had a glorious run this morning, it really made me remember why I like running. Having had a sore hip since my HM last weekend this is the first time I've been out, and although it niggled, nothing could detract from it this morning. I got up early and went to our local country park and did a 4 miler through the woods, across the heathland and by the river with the dog. It was so beautiful: we saw deer, squirrels, more rabbits, pheasants and partridge than you could count. There was even a field full of turkeys, luckily on the other side of the river from the dog!

The sun was coming up, the mist was rising and at one point I came out of the trees and the sun had given the mist a golden orange tinge and I ran with my face in the mist and my feet in the clear air. There was heavy dew and every cobweb looked like lace. Plus there was that lovely smell of autumn - gently decaying leaves and damp ground. Sorry for rhapsodising but it was so gorgeous it made me fall in love with running all over again!

Bet I won't be saying that next time its chucking down with rain, cold and dark...

Bumply · 02/10/2011 11:34

Currently in a nice hot bath warming up again. Definitely not an Indian summer in Edinburgh! Drizzling rain and about 13 degrees. Still full of cold so I was very pleased to a) make it at a jog the whole way round and b) iPhone app says I did it on 38 mins 20 sec which is a PB.

Haha to this being my first rave.

Good atmosphere despite the rain and ds not coming to watch.

Strange running with other people got overtaken a lot, but there were a lot of walkers by the time I hit 3-4 km Mark. People alternating running and walking were faster than me, but just tuned them out. Enjoyed passing 20 ish year olds.

I could have done with windscreen wipers on my glasses, don't remember seeing much in the way of anything let alone scenery
.

Pawsnclaws · 02/10/2011 12:13

Well done futurity and bumply! Man, it's hot here. You did well to keep going in this heat.

DH has taken ds1 and 2 to their swimming lesson while I tackle Potty Training Day 1 with ds3. Oh what fun!!

Off for a leisurely 6 miles later - will be taking it easy with one week to go.

Pawsnclaws · 02/10/2011 12:16

Oh and bumply I also suffer from the rain/specs issue. Have you tried using a visor? I dont like hats as my head gets sweaty but a visor is ok for sun and rain.

FairyBasslet · 02/10/2011 13:05

Just a quick post to say I did it and lived to tell the tale despite the 25 degree heat! Time around 2:42 but what the hell - I'm happy with that for my first HM especially in the heat. Full report later. Off for a shower as boy, do I need one [clothes peg over nose emoticon].

Wheelybug · 02/10/2011 13:14

Well done bumply and futurity ! You did great !!

Good luck Paws with the potty training.... Oh and I meant to say before rhet - if your dd is stubborn leave it until she decides. I've probably said before but DD1 was v. stubborn about it but once she decided to do it, she did it in a day and didn't have accidents. she was 2 yrs 8/9 months by then but was dry and clean both day and night. Now DD2 is perhaps more stubborn than DD1 so am adopting the same approach and just hoping she'll decide sometime soon. She knows exactly what to do so is purely a case of not wanting to. She's currently 2 yrs 6 months so I'll worry about it after christmas if she hasn't done it by then !

I'll join in the few extra pound sheddding. have about 5/6 I want to lose. Thanks for the advice june although I find it a difficult concept when diets restrict fruit. I understand the logic (sugar) but want to eat my 5 a day. Suppose i could just eat carrots instead.

So, having experimented with the gels last week on long ruyn, and having had a bad week running and having to do a long run tomorrow in the heat .... I find DH stole the last gel for his run this morning. Grrr.. trailed our rubbish high st this morning to no avail. Then on way back remembered my gym has them in the vending machine so we're just off out and we'll have to call in on the way back.

hope everyone else has got on ok on super sunday !!!

Wheelybug · 02/10/2011 13:15

Crossposts fairy - Well done !! Getting round a HM in this heat is fantastic.

stickylittlefingers · 02/10/2011 13:55

this is such a busy thread! Wanted to wish the super-Sundayers good luck, but a bit late for that Blush - well done Futurity, Bumply and Fairy, seems like you didn't let the heat hold you back!

Haven't been on because it's just been too nice to hang around indoors, but that's all over now - pissing down out there! It's just been glorious though, what a bonus :)
