sfxmum · 01/10/2011 10:58

Good luck again I hope the weather is kinder to runners where ever you are. I popped out for 3miles shortly after 8am and it was already pretty hot
Pool later

backwardpossom · 01/10/2011 11:10

Meh, it's business as usual here - pouring rain. Hope it's a bit nicer in Inverness tomorrow!

DrNortherner · 01/10/2011 11:24

Write the IAAF and tell them what you think. [email protected]
use subject line: Restore Paula Radcliffe's Marathon World Record

Dear IAAF,

I am from and I think your recent decision to strip Paula Radcliffe of her world marathon record simply because there were men in the same race with her is a disgrace to athletics in general and to female runners worldwide. Historystands.

DrNortherner · 01/10/2011 11:25

Hot one here in N Yorks again. Just back from run with SIL, managed 6 not 8. Was hot and my leg was twinging. Came back and iced. Done 28 miles this week, that's alot for me. Quite pleased.

Looking forward to lots of race reports to read soon!

orangehead · 01/10/2011 11:26

Glad you got your mojo back fanny
Did parkrun this morning despite tummy not good last couple of days and had party last night, although no drinking. It felt like the worst parkrun ever, 3 mins in I wanted to stop turn around and go home. My legs just didn't seem to want to work, but did it in 30 mins 32 secs, not bad considering.

rhetorician · 01/10/2011 12:16

tipping down with rain here - as heavy as you can imagine. Slogged round town with dd in buggy (sensibly she did not want to get out) and mountains of shopping. I felt very oppressed. Roof leaking too, as usual.

I think I might pass on my run today, unless I can face dashing to the car to go and run on treadmill...

rather glad I didn't sign up for super sunday - driving conditions are atrocious

OP posts:
squix · 01/10/2011 13:20

Foggy here rhet - I'm having a rest day before super Sunday.

peachsmuggler · 01/10/2011 14:17

Well done sfx and Drno on your early morning runs.

orange, good work, especially as your tum was a bit wrong!!!

Rhet, that sounds grim. Lol at feeling oppressed! I know what you mean though!

Is flipping hot here (sorry) been in garden most of day and done 3 lots of washing (the glamour!)

rhetorician · 01/10/2011 15:09

well you know = buggy weighed down with bags, trudging through the pouring rain; still raining so rest day for me, I think. 10 miler tomorrow though.

good luck to all our Super Sunday racers!

Pawsnclaws · 01/10/2011 15:37

Hi all, no let up in the pace of this thread then?!

Had a lovely 8 miles very early this morning before it got hot. Surprisingly i felt pretty good considering i was out last night eating Thai food which normally does my bum no favours. Just a tiny half glass of wine though, maybe thats the answer?

Just made it back to take ds1 and 2 to footie, now sat in the field waiting for ds2 to come out of a party. Then home for ds3's birthday tea, then out tonight with DH!

Looking forward to reading this weekends race reports - good luck to all taking part in Super Sunday!

MoshiMoshi · 01/10/2011 15:55

Hello thread! Sorry for not reading back and acknowledging anyone. Returned from San Fran yesterday and it has been full throttle since. It is LOVELY to be back and I adore London, especially when it is hot like it is. Oh help. Still we have seen a few schools and even have the chance of getting some places in some decent schools in January for DCs1 and 2 who are of school age in the US. They are nowhere near the standard of the schools here and especially not that of DS who is at one of the best (if not, arguably, the best) all boys' schools in the country, actually I would rank it pretty high in the world... (can you tell I am worried about what we are doing?!) The younger two are considered pre-schoolers. DD2 will not be pleased as she has started in reception here.

Anyhoo, was just checking in and waving hello to you all and wishing racers the very best of luck this weekend. I am not racing but will do my 20 miler (5M easy, 15M steady) with you all in mind!

DrNortherner · 01/10/2011 16:51

Moshi it sounds like a huge decision to make. Does dh want to do it? Good luck with whatever you decide Smile

orangehead · 01/10/2011 16:59

Good luck Moshi with the decision making. Do you have a deadline you have to decide in?
Felt so awful by lunch I ended up going to bed and actually slept for a few hours (I never normally can sleep in the day) not the best way to spend a sunny afternoon when ex has the boys, would of been perfect to go out to play but hey ho.
Good luck to everyone for super sunday

fannybanjo · 01/10/2011 17:52

Good luck everyone for tomorrow's races.

moshi as they say... there's no place like home, however you can make San Fran your home and it'll take getting used to but what a wonderful place to relocate to! It sounds like no school will come close to DS's so you need to try to see the benefits of living in a new city with better weather and a different "culture" - you never know, he may surprise you and thrive. Better now than when he's is in High School.

orange sounds like you aren't feeling too hot - apologies if you've already mentioned anything but I'm on my iPhone and hard to catch up on posts - are you ok?

I'm knackered after today's run, been busy day. Could do with short nap before going for our meal later.

futurity · 01/10/2011 18:54

Crumbs Moshi seems like a big decision to make..what happens next...lots more discussion or have you decided yet?

I've been taking it easy in the heat today...hope it stays cooler first thing tomorrow as I don't want to melt! Good luck for everyone for tomorrow's super sizzling Sunday!

rhetorician · 01/10/2011 19:28

peach just saw your post upthread - I liked The Little Stranger, but not as much as her other books. She's a very nice woman, as it happens.

also I think DP feels much the same as you; she's very uncomfortable, particularly at night, and sleep is an elusive thing.

RunningAllDay · 01/10/2011 19:58

Hello - can I join? I've just found your thread, as as you can see by my nom de plume, am a keen runner. Though I have running friends, they are not as crazy motivated as me and its nice to read such a lot of keen running banter! Wanted to ask if anyone else is planning to run the Eden Half (or even the Marathon) on 9th October? (Booked myself on for it under the influence Wine and starting to regret it after a seriously unpleasant 11-miler this week....)

DrNortherner · 01/10/2011 20:03

runningallday welcome! Add your race to the list Smile Is this your first marathon?

RunningAllDay · 01/10/2011 20:08

Wish it were... I'm only doing the half. Maybe next year with all the inspiration from this thread! Will try and find the race list to update but am a web-klutz so forgive me if I do it wrong.

Welcome RunningAllDay
Not bad Fanny dont know if just run down and stressed but last couple of weeks feel really drained but have had cold and off tummy. If not feeing better in couple of days going try some of that liquid iron I think.

DebiTheScot · 01/10/2011 20:23

Oh my goodness it was hot today! (sorry m&M but when you're from Scotland, it really was!) The car was reading 27C and that was after driving for a bit so not the sitting in sun temp. We went to friends for a big fry up and the rugby this morning then we all went to a huge park and chatted while the men watched the kids played in the playparks and had a long walk and ice-cream. It was one of those totally relaxed, not thinking about the real world at all type Saturdays. Grin

Hopefully I won't get too many disapproving looks from you but I've decided to run tomorrow. The shins weren't sore at all today and aren't sore to touch so the shin splints obviously aren't as bad as they could be. SO I'm going to run tomorrow then not run at all for at least a week, maybe 2 (duathlon is in 2 weeks). Then after the duathlon I've got nothing booked so can take it easy and build up the miles really slowly.
I think you could be right about the intervals, especially as I run them on concrete. So once I feel ready to put them back into training I'll do them on grass.

Wheelybug · 01/10/2011 20:42

Welcome runningallday - good luck for the eden project half !

Well done everyone who ran today ! Sounds like you did better than me. My 10K became a very poor 5.3 miles. I had to walk twice (I never walk Shock Grin) and just felt rubbish. It was at 6.30 so think probably not hydrated enough etc etc. Now wondering what to do MOnday - was hoping to do 10m but its still going to be hot and I'll have to do it at 930... maybe I'll do 8.

Good luck tomorrow everyone - hope the shins hold up Debi (whispers - I think in your position I'd probably do the same).

Welcome back moshi

DebiTheScot · 01/10/2011 21:14

(duathlon is in 3 weeks, not 2)

DrNortherner · 01/10/2011 21:40

Yes debi I'd do teh same. We're all good at dishing out the 'stop running' injury advice but none of us actually do Grin Sounds sensible though to me. Good luck!
