rhet great picture isn't it? And agreed, she looks fab for 60! I am amazed she ran Boston marathon in a bloody sweat/track suit!

Quenelle · 30/09/2011 13:25

Yes, the chunk between 5k and 7k. It's a long, very slightly uphill drag along a straight road. They don't close the road to traffic either so the cars whizzing past at 70mph+ can be a bit offputting. But once that part's over you're on your way home Smile IIRC the water station is just before this section so don't miss it.

futurity · 30/09/2011 13:37

thanks for that info...just looked at the map again and I can see what you mean..the A507 stretch looks a bit daunting but I like the look of the downhill stretch from 9KM :)

Think I will carry some water if it is hot at that time..am used to carrying anyway due to my half training.

rhetorician · 30/09/2011 13:52

micro-planning for you futurity! DrNo I assume she ran wearing sweats because it would make it less likely that the eagle-eyed men would spot that she had boobs and strangely hairless legs? (she doesn't look like the kind of chick who would show leg stubble to the world, does she?)

have to steel myself to take dds nappy off for another afternoon of potty training joy Hmm

sfxmum · 30/09/2011 13:52

quick read so much easier when I had an office Grin

congrats to quenelle

commiserations on marathon refusals

love the idea, only the idea mind, of the 24h run, a bit like a festival without dodgy music and dodgy assorted substances

good luck for the weekend races, look forward to reports

and also for the plodders joggers and runners doing their training this weekend

boiling here must get up early tomorrow to be in with a chance of a decent run

futurity · 30/09/2011 14:06

I need all the micro planning I can get Wink I don't normally look at the route too much before the race...well I do..but doesn't really sink in so I am looking at the elevation so I don't do my normal thing of "where the F did that hill come from!?!" Just found my PB from last 10K (which was 2009) which was 1 hour 2 mins so anything over that a bonus!

DrNortherner · 30/09/2011 14:07

Of course rhet wearing vest and running knickers would have given the game away somewhat earlier. (Duhh....)

Quenelle · 30/09/2011 14:21

I admit it, I am vicariously running the Standalone 10k through Futurity Wink

I would describe the course as 'undulating' nothing too alarming hillwise.

Just remembered, they have a great race commentator who looks up runners' names from their numbers as they're on the final approach to the finish line. If you're lucky he will be shouting 'Come on Futurity' to you, and the crowd might join in too Smile

futurity · 30/09/2011 14:51

Smile sounds fun! I'm really looking forward to it now (apart from the heat!). The kids are going to do the fun run after whilst I collapse in a heap!

backwardpossom · 30/09/2011 15:15

I managed to nick a shot of the scanner in school so have digital copies of the 10k PB article to upload and post here when I get home. Grin

rhetorician · 30/09/2011 15:22

I love those commentators - the Phoenix Park race series does that - he spots your number as you come up the home strait and then tells everyone your life history (well, where you're from and which charity you're running for)

ibbydibby · 30/09/2011 16:18

Congratulations, Quenelle

Dr No , love the idea of the Thunder Run.....

Futurity, when you say "so anything over that a bonus!", presume you mean anything under?!! (Ibby with pedantic hat on)

I fear I may need to drop out of Super Sunday MN race: went to running club last night, running along quite happily and my calf just started hurting. Just like that. So only did a quarter of the session. Calf still hurts, a sort of crampy type pain. Presumably a pulled something or other.

Went to GP yesterday to show her my cervical polyps Grin identified by nurse at smear test last week. She has referred me to gynae dept at hospital and I have booked this appt for beg of Nov. But not sure if this appt will be for removal, or just an initial look. Thought that GP said removal, but do hospitals usually do procedures on first visit?

Roasting here today

Wheelybug · 30/09/2011 16:27

Good luck for the weekend Futurity, MrsW, backward, Badger, Squix, wifit, Debi, bumply, ibby and fairy. Phew ! It really is super sunday !! Hope I haven't miss anyone out. And remember lots of water !!

Congrats on the BFP quenelle

Rest day here today, although a walk with some friends. One of which did the GNR. Its her 3rdtime and her least prepared but she was telling me how she was spurred on to a sprint finish in the hope of beating Donald Duck Grin. Made me giggle.

10K tomorrow to further rest ankle and to shift my long run to Monday. Hoping to do 10 miles on monday ankle and heat permitting.

Wheelybug · 30/09/2011 16:29

Took so long I cross posted with you ibby - hope the calf is ok (and your appointment).....

Quenelle · 30/09/2011 16:32

Thanks for all the congrats. Be careful running in the heat this weekend everyone.

rhetorician · 30/09/2011 16:49

is raining here and temps much closer to normal again

runnerstipple · 30/09/2011 16:58

Good luck to everyone this weekend, and thanks for the suggestions about how to find local events. I've found a couple, and just need to sort out childcare before booking one.

futurity · 30/09/2011 17:06

ibbydibby lol...you are right...anything UNDER a bonus....TOO hot today...brain melting.....

hope your calf is alright x

peachsmuggler · 30/09/2011 17:56

Hope the calf improves ibby and good luck with your hospital appointment.

Congratulations Quenelle!!! How lovely. Yes, I fully intended to keep running but then the bleuughhhness and the tiredness put paid to that!

Futurity, glad your race is nice and early. It will be hot but these scorchio temps seem to in afternoon so hope you miss the worst of it.

paws, that little story about your DS's was gorgeous. They sound brilliant, you must be one proud mum.

DD, post playgroup and swimming lessons, has been asleep in her buggy since just before we got home about 4.20 and I though I'd have a nap too. Woke up at 5.40! Have t'other onto sofa and now she is asleep again. Really should wake her but a sleepy toddler lying on you is just too cute! Might be a late bedtime for her tonight....

Bumply · 30/09/2011 18:30

Managed to do 5k run last night at under 39 mins. A PB for me which was all the more surprising as I've caught my boys cold and my nose was dripping as much as my sweat! Managed my PT session at the gym today. Day off tomorrow and well see what my first rave is like on Sunday.

DrNortherner · 30/09/2011 18:58

Bumply well done on the PB! You off to a rave on Sun or a race? lol? Image of you racing wearing illuminous gloves and a whistle Grin

God luck to all racers this weekend. It sure will be a hot one. Plenty of fluids guys and don't forget the SPF.

Quenelle many congrats on the BFP, great news Smile

I did 8 miles today in 26 degrees, Caught the sun on my arms and face. I was sweating like a good 'un when I got back. We did an pretty awful 8 mile route (mates choice not mine) and basically ran in a straight line for 4 miles then turned and came back, quite hilly too. And I forgot I promised SIl I'd run 8 wuth her tomorrow, hope I can manage it......

Enjoy the sun and Super Sunday!

DebiTheScot · 30/09/2011 20:29

Crap, crap, crap. My shin pain has gone from 1 hurting when I stop running & being fine after ice to both hurting while running Sad
Anyone have any tips on how to improve it and stop it happening. I'm assuming it's shin splints.

DebiTheScot · 30/09/2011 20:30

DrNo I read that as 8 miles in 26 minutes Grin
