Sorry to hear about the marathons rejections :(

I've signed up to the race next weekend (busy this sunday, couldn't join the super weekend ;)) Good luck to all the racers!! There should be a few reports next week :D

The race I just signed up for is supporting our local theatre, they do loads for children and adults alike.

june is your race the chickenshed one? You need to put your name beside it..

Sorry about marathon disappointment futurity

Hope you've had a good time at the beach with DD Rhet

Sizzling hot here.

Pawsnclaws · 29/09/2011 16:30

Another marathon reject again here - me and DH. Not too disappointed as I'm s it about Chester on the 9th and feeling tired and jaded with this marathon malarkey!

Did 6 miles last night - nice evening run, then a hideous sweaty 3 miles just now.

fannybanjo · 29/09/2011 18:22

Sorry about rejects futurity and paws Sad

paws you still doing Chester? You feeling better?

I'm still basically fucked Hmm. Come out to do an 8 miler and my legs wouldn't move so after a mile of killing myself I've walked home. So fed up of feeling run down - started iron tablets today - hopefully that will help.

Hope you are all enjoying this weather - I'm not as I've been indoors ironing, re-organising kids toys, stripping beds, mopping - I really need to stop being a fussy cow and chill out!

DrNortherner · 29/09/2011 18:30

Commiserations to those of you who were not lucky enough to get a VLM place. What a shame.

I can't join in Super Sunday either, annoyingly there is a local race I could do, but logistically it won't work cause of football and dh's coaching commitments, plus no one I know is running it so can't cadge a lift. Poo. Anyway, tomorrow morning am doing an 8 miler with a mate once we have dropped off kids. Then hopefully 8 on Sat with SIL if I feel OK.

I think we should put a team in for the Adidas thunder run next year Who's in?

DebiTheScot · 29/09/2011 18:52

DrNo that looks awesome! It's quite far away for me but maybe could be done.

Hope you pick up soon fanny Sad

Rhet ds1 did the same with toilet training. He would not do until he was more than ready and when he did we had no accidents at all. Basically he didn't 'train', he just did it.

My planned run tonight is probably going to be tomorrow. Too many books to mark tonight. Only doing 1 between now and race on Sunday so I guess it doens't matter what day it's on.

DrNortherner · 29/09/2011 18:55

Doesn't it Debi? I am deffo up for it. Single sex teams can be a max of 5. Mixed sex can be 8. How cool would it be running through the night?

As soon as 2012 dates are released we should register a team. I'll project manage Grin Have you seen how many laps the male winner did this year? Hardcore or what?

We can all share a tent and drink lucozade and eat cake together

peachsmuggler · 29/09/2011 19:08

Wow DrNo, that looks brilliant!! Am sorely tempted but logistically not sure how I would manage it, as would still be bf DD2, so have to bring whole family! Anyway let ms know when 2012 date announced and will think on it!

So in theory, if it were a team of 5 girls, you'd run 5 times, once every 5 hours and you'd only need to run once each overnight. Cool!!!

backwardpossom · 29/09/2011 19:12

There was a big thing about that in Women's Running recently, DrNo - looked like brilliant fun! I'm a little bit too far away though, I think...

I've not forgot about the article, guys, am struggling with my computer that has the scanner attached to it... we'll get there though!

rhetorician · 29/09/2011 19:28

DrNo maybe, just maybe; I've a couple of things in the UK next summer, and we usually visit DD's dad and grandparents in July - they are in NW, so it's possible we could stretch to this (e.g. I could hang out with you guys while they do their thing Hmm); I think I'd feel the pressure from the team....

orangehead · 29/09/2011 19:46

Sorry about rejections futurity and paws.
I will have to say no drno as hopefully should be pregnant by then but shame as not too far from me.
Managed to get to gym last night but found it tough and seem to have pulled a muscle in my leg somehow. Did make me laugh though. A couple of girls there with perfect hair loads of makeup (thick eyeliner) and they were just slowly walking on treadmill, had jackets on too and didn't look slightly flushed at all then they left (disclaimer I know some people just walk if injured or certain medical conditions but really dont think was this case) any way made me giggle and thought why bother paying to do that.

rhetorician · 29/09/2011 19:59

orangehead I really don't get why people go to the gym to walk on a treadmill (unless there's some medical reason); why wouldn't you just go to your local park/shop/pub?

I didn't run today - at least not officially Wink, but spent the whole day out with dd, chasing her in and out of the sea, along the sand dunes, and then round the animal park, and then the adventure playground. She has passed out :)

we are so lucky to live within a half hour drive of some really fabulous beaches. I love it; I suspect I am going to be spending a good bit of time there over the next decade

OP posts:
DrNortherner · 29/09/2011 20:08

Yes peachy a team of 5 girls would run 5 times each, and once through the night So that would be 30 miles each in 24 hours

Or we rope in cest and enter a mixed team of 8. I reckon Moshi would take on more laps. Rhet the only person who puts pressure on you is you Grin I have no idea if I could run 30 miles in 24 hours but it sounds like fun to try!

DrNortherner · 29/09/2011 20:10

OMG the winning womans team this year did 31 laps. The sole femal runner did 16!

Themasterandmargaritas · 29/09/2011 20:31

Oooo fun, I should be in the UK about then. Though not sure how many laps I could realistically run Blush. I love love the idea of running in the night, a la Caballo.

No running for me until Saturday as I seem to be the queen of committees at the moment. Tomorrow we have a work sports day, should be good fun, our team had better win though, especially since I am in charge. Wink.

Fanny sorry to hear you are still a bit blue, is it coming up to that time of the month? My running really suffers the week before AF.

I hope you have all had a lovely day in the sun. SmileSmileSmile

Pawsnclaws · 29/09/2011 20:39

Sounds brilliant, where is it? I could do the distance I think as long as it didn't have to be done in any kind of silly time .....

Wheelybug · 29/09/2011 20:46

I read about the thunder run in Women's running too and had meant to post about it ! I'd definitely be up for it in theory depending on date and ability to run that much. Sounded a lot of (rather strange) fun. We could always rope in some DH's to increase numbers - mine would probably be up for it (as long as I don't mention the camping element Grin)?

No marathon place for me either - but I would have deferred anyway. Well I might not have done and struggled to do the training so its probably best I didn't get in. I want to do a marathon by my 40th year and I am 36 so have 4 more attempts before I think of a charity place. We went to a 40th this w/e and she is doing the marathon on a charity place and asked people to donate rather than give pressies which I thought was a good idea.

Sorry to those who really wanted to do it next year.

paws and fanny -hope you perk up soon.

Orange - did your DN go home in the end ?

I made it to body balance this morning - the first 50 mins were good. Stretchingand toning type stuff which I think will be useful to add to my repertoire, especially as i'm horribly inflexible. Last 10 mins was 'relaxation' and lots of people left. It was lying in the dark effectively. Enforced relaxation makes me rather tense so I lay there planning my running schedule for the next week or so. Ankle willing. Which it isn't at the mo.

peach - Dd2 not ill. Just a pain in the whatsit at night time. Grrrrr.

orangehead · 29/09/2011 21:01

Yes dn went home. But I have a bit ofa dodgy tummy now. I also find enforced relation makes me more tense.

rhetorician · 29/09/2011 21:01

"Enforced relaxation makes me rather tense". lol wheely - I'm the same - the meditation part of yoga always makes my mind race and obsess about work/shopping/incomplete tasks/failure to weed allotment/e.g. exactly the kind of trivia I am supposed to be emptying my mind of. Counting through hard bits of running the same - I seem to be able to count and think trivial thoughts at the same time :o

OP posts:
orangehead · 29/09/2011 21:01

relaxation I meanBlush

peachsmuggler · 29/09/2011 21:10

31 laps!!! Flipping hell!!!

Sorry bout marathon places Sad

I quite like "enforced relaxation", and depending on the setting have been known to fall asleep in yoga class (lazy git emoticon)

hope the iron kicks in soon, fanny, and gives you a lift.

rhetorician · 29/09/2011 21:17

you do all realise that 31 laps is 310km, divided by 24 = 12.9km per hour (so 7.30 m/m - um, I think not)...we wouldn't win with me on the team! but if you look down the results, an awful lot of people didn't complete the full 24 hours

OP posts:
DrNortherner · 29/09/2011 21:21

wheely I like your goal of wanting to do a marathon before you hit 40, you have got me thinking I could do the same. Am 35 now, just getting into running. Might give it a few more years of HM's then try the biggy, just once. Just to say I have done it.

rhetorician · 29/09/2011 21:23

too late for me to do a marathon before 40. Shucks.

OP posts:
DrNortherner · 29/09/2011 21:24

I wonder if that's because they had a set amount of laps to run and once they achieved that they stopped. Realistically do you think you'd get any sleep?! And how the hell do you run 7m/m in the frigging dark!
