all welcome to come and join in - we talk a lot on here, and are always glad of new people to natter with about running (and everything else)

orange hope you get your run in tomorrow (hopefully a vomit free day too, eeuw!). The bra is the berlei running bra (from less bounce.com for that code). I've ordered it so I'll let you know about its ultra sonic properties!

wiifit I too like running with the ipod, but where I've not been able to (I think where the roads aren't closed they have to ban them for safety reasons) I haven't found it a problem. It's a nice change in some ways, and I think might make me go faster overall as I'm not so likely to go off into a trance (which I'm a bit prone to, one of the reasons I like LSRs, off into my own little world!)

Wiifitmama · 27/09/2011 22:26

Thanks everyone. There was no mention of banned headphones in the info pack. The run is through a park so roads not a problem. I will take it and can always leave it with hubby if I decide not to use it. It's only a fun run, but I am very nervous. I run that distance once or twice a week so it is not the running as such, but the uncertainty of never having run a race before!

stickylittlefingers · 27/09/2011 22:36

wiifit I bet you'll have a great time - really don't worry! My experience of races has been that they're amazingly friendly. One of the reasons they're so addictive, they restore your faith in human nature.

DebiTheScot · 27/09/2011 22:54

I haven't raced with my ipod but do usually run with it. If I do a short run or am doing strides/sprints/intervals or what ever they're called I don't usually take it.

My shin was a bit twingy again after running tonight so it's been iced again. How many times can you half defrost a pack of frozen veg before you shouldn't eat them?

Need to do a longish run of around 10 miles today, but can't decide where to go (plenty of country lanes to choose from round here). However sitting here in dressing gown and need to leave at 8.30am with DS2 so need to get my act together pdq!

Wiifit it may be worth trying without your ipod, as so many races ban them these days (even though they are not banned from the race you are doing). You may find that you fall into conversation (or at least exchange of pleasantries) with fellow runner(s) and it would be a shame to miss that...

Water was back at around 9.45pm on Monday, so after about 15 hours with no water, I really enjoyed a lush bath....bliss!

Pinkglow · 28/09/2011 10:22

Morning ladies - sorry been absent lately - just feel bloody drained - have zero energy, I have a feeling I could be slightly anaemic but don't want to start iron tablets unless I know 100%. Going to do shortish run later to try to perk myself up.

I'm anaemic which is normally controlled by diet but I sometimes feel terribly drained normally around my TOTM. I take liquid iron which you can get in any health food shop. It doesnt bung you up the way that the tablets do and you can just take it for a few days as and when you need it. It was interesting because by physio told me that they have just done studies which links anaemia to conditions such as shin splints. Anaemia doesnt cause shin splints but it can make you more susceptable to things like that.

Pawsnclaws · 28/09/2011 11:27

I completely agree about the iron - I have terrible problems with anaemia and take Feroglobin (liquid) all the time. I'm very drained at the moment from a two week cough and cold, and I'd say being low in iron definitely coincides with me feeling very run down. Unfortunately I also suffer from very heavy periods - sometimes two weeks long combined with a 22 day cycle, so I always feel it's one step forwards two steps back.

fannybanjo · 28/09/2011 11:32

Thanks pinkglow and paws - I am popping out soon and will pop into Holland and Barrett and get some liquid iron. Think the constipation concerns put me off. Feel really low as well lately, it's not depression as I am functioning fine but just don't seem to have the same pizzazz as I usually have. Been out for a run this morning - did 4.5 miles with 1 mile of fartlek. Just don't seem to have the passion for it at the moment though. Sad

Sorry for me me me post.

stickylittlefingers · 28/09/2011 11:41

Poor Fanny. I think it's natural enough after being very focussed on the GNR that you have to pick yourself up again once it's done. Give yourself a mental break and just let the running take care of itself for a couple of weeks, enjoy it with no pressure.

I was advised to keep taking iron when I had a run of fainting all the time (it's very embarrassing, being a fainter!) and a lovely nurse in A&E told me that just being very busy (at the time I was being a busy lawyer with small DC) can put your body under that much pressure, even without the exercising on top.

Being the Queen of Taking it Easy, I did 40 mins, just over 4 miles this morning. It's only just burning off now, so it was warmish but grey. Looking forward to spending the rest of the day in the garden lolling chopping at stuff.

sfxmum · 28/09/2011 12:02

hello all

not much chance of caching up atm

but just wanted to say fanny Autumn is my favourite running season but it also the one when I struggle the most with the blues, there is something that happens when the days start getting shorted and we start Winter proper that really gets to me, usually it perks up by Christmas but I really have to watch out so I don't completely flounder, so I take the prettiness of the scenery as motivation to get me out and that usually helps

did 4 very slow miles a little later than expected, wanted to stop after 2 but had a little walk instead and kept going, it is the little things
might go to Zumba tonight

happy running all Smile

sfxmum · 28/09/2011 12:03

and I hope the assorted ailments get sorted soon

rhetorician · 28/09/2011 12:46

very brief

OP posts:
fannybanjo · 28/09/2011 12:50

Thanks sticky rhet and sfx - you are all probably right! Need to run for the sake of running and not become "faster" etc. Run was a disaster this morning as went with my friend and just couldn't get into it. Think I need to go out tomorrow alone with my Ipod and just enjoy the peace.

However do feel drained so definitely iron supplements - I was always anaemic whilst pregnant so I am probably susceptible to it.

FairyBasslet · 28/09/2011 14:01

Just thought I'd add my race in for Sunday - hopefully the first of many.

Looks like it might be a bit on the warm side for the weekend races - not quite what I expected for October. At least I feel a bit better prepared now as did 12.25 miles in 2.5 hours on Monday. Walked a little bit but happy with that. I'm pretty sure I can stagger/crawl that last wee bit to the finish line Smile Letting my legs rest now until Sunday, though it does look lovely out there...

Fascinating to hear about everyone's music habits. I don't generally listen to music when I run outside, and in the gym I normally just have the radio or TV on. I would like to get back into running on the treadmill to music though as I could do with all the motivation I can get

sfxmum I too love Autumn but start to struggle a bit energy and moodwise as the days get dull and grey - a bit of SAD I think. I've never run outside all through the year before, but fully intend to this year so I'm sure it'll help me a lot. Running certainly does help keep me sane.

DrNortherner · 28/09/2011 14:50

Afternoon guys Grin

fanny I think I may be anaemic too, I certainly was after ds was born. I feel the same as you so you have inspired me to get some liquid iron too. Thanks pinkglow for the tip! Hope you perk up soon.

We all lose our Mojo at some point or other, but it does come back.

How strange for this weekends racers running in 22 deggrees! Weird for October indeed.

Sticky I am at work and can not look at the bra with ultra sonic welding but I am Hmm as to WTF it is! Do tell.

Debi don't you hate the friends who moan about not training enough and then go and sprint past you? Grr.

I went to running claub last night and all I will say is TEMPO running is my least fave. Give me hills or intervals any day.

Wheelybug · 28/09/2011 15:16

Another one lacking in energy here ! but don't think its lack of iron just knackered. V. bad night with dd2 on top of a couple of (enjoyable) late nights means today's gym run was v. hard work. Ankle also a bit sore so I bailed out at 4 miles. Should have been 5. Hardly ever stop early - usually once I'm that close I find the will to go on. But also had my swimming lesson after it so didn't want to collapseGrin. Thankfully swimming was breaststroke today which is a bit less exhausting for me than crawl. Plus the teacher was in a bit of a chatty mood which would have been irritating if I hadn't been tired so we only did about 8 lengths over 30 mins.

fanny - After a race (not that I've done many) I always feel out of sorts with running. I always give myself a week off running, but doing other stuff, and then a week easing back in.

Right, have to go and collect 5 excitable 6/7 year olds from choir practise, bring them home for a bit then take them back to school for dance club. A disadvantage of living so near school !

peachsmuggler · 28/09/2011 16:53

fanny, hope you feel better soon. You were on such a post race high, it's not surprising you feel a bit flat. I also suffer from low iron levels (not just when pregnant!) partly due to not eating meat but also am rubbish at absorbing iron, despite a high vit c diet. I normally take just a half dose, which I think is 7mg, which I don't find constipated me.

Hope DD2 feeling better soon wheely, and you get some sleep.

So many races this weekend, very exciting! It's very flipping hot in London. Was in town this lunchtime, meeting old work chums for lunch and feel completely wiped out! Luckily persuaded DD to go without pram. We got bus then train so not loads of walking but a lot more than she is used to and she did really well. Such a relief not be pushing buggy with heavy toddler in this heat! Supposed to be out tonight with book club, soooo tired but want to go.

peachsmuggler · 28/09/2011 16:55

wheely, just realised you didn't say DD2 was ill, hopefully just one bad night!

squix · 28/09/2011 16:58

I'd agree with post race blues - i think it's like any other event that we get excited about and get an adrenalin (sp?) surge for, there'll be some emotional fall out afterwards.

On train heading back to sunny Scotland now - 3 1/2 hours to go - I might actually be able to catch up with all the chat on this thread that I've missed.

futurity · 28/09/2011 16:58

oh dear...looks like it will be 27 degrees where I live on Sunday...just want I need for a 10K race!! Hopefully as it is 9.30 it will be alright and not quite that temperature so I should get through it. I am hoping that is cools down significantly for the week after for my half marathon. I hope everyone else survives our Super Sunday of races!

backwardpossom · 28/09/2011 17:31

futurity the forecast for Inverness on Sunday is sun and no wind... I think my plan of a sub 55 min 10k is out the window!

orangehead · 28/09/2011 17:47

Just had a quick skim to catch. I too been feeling a bit drained this past week but still have a bit of cold left and generally I am feeling very stressed at the mo. Going to just try and relax this weekend and just calm.
Didnt do a run this morning as dn did not end up going home so had him today. Might try and go to the gym in a bit. He should be going home tonight.
Sounds like it could be post race blues Fanny. A friend of mine had post wedding blues. The morning after we were all mouching round the hotel and friend rang me on mobile to ask what we were all doing and could we all go to thier room as him and dw were feeling down. They had put so much into the planning it was constantly on thier mind that was it was over they didnt know what to do with themselves

rhetorician · 28/09/2011 18:27

it really is a super Sunday, isn't it? makes me think that I should cast around and find something to run in...

OP posts:
squix · 28/09/2011 19:27

Go for it rhet - super sunday indeed.

Forecast for edinburgh on sunday seems to be around 14/15 degrees and maybe a wee bit of rain. Sounds good conditions for a 10k.

I've also entered DD in the Mini great Edinburgh run - it's 1.5k so we'll see how we get on - even if we walk it I think it will be great fun. She has a T shirt and a number and is very excited.

rhetorician · 28/09/2011 19:38

a race, that is; not running kit (despite my streak I do have running gear!)
