Well done moshi... Hope all goes well in San Fran.

5 miles leaden legged miles today - a result of Saturday's efforts plus a heavy weekend of indulgence I think. We went to a 40th on Saturday and then its DH's birthday today so out with his family for brunch yesterday. Out for dinner tonight too. Detox tomorrow Smile.

ibbydibby · 26/09/2011 14:45

Don't want to appear stupid but can someone explain significance/meaning of turning left (or not) on a plane please Confused

Infant and junior schools have shut early due to no water, so DS2 now home. He has just announced that "you take water for granted, you don't realise how much you need or use it*. Old head, young shoulders......on the other hand he has just "deposited" in the upstairs toilet, which means I will have to lug the rainwater bucket upstairs......

Breakfast dishes still awaiting my attention, how about yours Debi?

Pawsnclaws · 26/09/2011 14:52

ibby generally it's turn left for first class!

ibbydibby · 26/09/2011 15:13

Ohhhhh...I turn left all the time then....not! Thanks paws would never have dreamed of that.

Someone at work wants me to test something on line, NOW, someone else wants me to phone, NOW, and I need to collect DS1 from bus stop, NOW (he has large musical instrument today).

So nice to feel wanted!

Themasterandmargaritas · 26/09/2011 16:00

Welcome to my world ibby

No water that is, not the turning left bit! Sometimes we go for a couple of days without but we have a large 1000l tank in the garden. We have been known to wash the clothes in the bath, then the children in the same water, then pour it down the loo and use the remaining to water the flowers Grin

rhetorician · 26/09/2011 16:10

I have never flown first class; have been without water though - severe water shortages here last winter after the bad weather (although I think we were spared the worst because we are on the same water supply as the zoo, the President's house and the American Embassy!)

did a nice 5 miles this morning - it was hot when I'd finished! now I am stalling as I have to pull together slides for my evening lecture at 6.30. Will go and buy tea first, I think

OP posts:
ibbydibby · 26/09/2011 16:16

Sorry for rant, Master. Sounds like you put your water to good use! Our neighbours down the road have water cascading down their drive and I keep joking to them that I am going to bring all my flower pots to put down there.

encyclogirl · 26/09/2011 16:26

I used to fly biz class for work when I worked in London and once got upgraded to first on the way back from Kenya. I stayed awake all night just to get the benefit of it. Twas fab!

Ugh, shitty weekend. My pal who ran the GNR with me 2 years ago has found out her cancer is back. This just sucks as it's a rare form of cancer and they're not sure where the primary source is located. She's the one who got me into running in the first place. Ugh.

rhet nice work on the 5 miler, I'm heading out on one after work. Kind of dreading it because I'm so distracted by my pal's health, but she'd hate me to use her as an excuse that's for sure.

Dr No you've convinced me to join a runners club whether you know it or not. I start on Wednesday, very excited!

Wheely I feel your pain on the leaden miles. I feel 5 very leaden miles coming my way in the next hour.

Okay, gotta fly, sorry I missed so many. I can't keep up here, especially if I miss a weekend, but this thread keeps me running, so I need to do better.

Happy Monday all Grin

rhetorician · 26/09/2011 17:00

encyclo that's so shitty about your friend - but it doesn't mean you shouldn't run - on the contrary.

I hope your 5 miler clears your head a bit

CurrySpice · 26/09/2011 17:07

Hello! I am officially the world's most pathetic runner and am just Shock at all your exploits but am I allowed to join in and garner some inspiration from you

I have struggled to run much this year because I'm a lazy cow for various reasons and am just trying to get back into it.

atm I am only aiming to run 20-25km a week or so, just to keep fit but I'd like to build that up again to where I was 18 months ago.

I live in Essex and do a mixture of street running and on the treadmill at the gym if I'm there. I love the total brain freedom running gives me. I don't think about anything when I run, just zone out. A welcome relief from work and kids!

I'm just off out to do 5km (I feel so pathetic saying that with all your exploits!!) and have loved reading about your runs here! :o

rhetorician · 26/09/2011 17:15

5k is great, curryspice, and you're welcome. This thread is a great motivator and you know all you need to keep fit is 30 minutes a few times a week.

some people are fast, some run far (a few do both) but most of us are just plodding along doing our best and enjoying it.

CurrySpice · 26/09/2011 17:18

Thank you rhet.

And yes, I'm still here, provaricating Blush

DrNortherner · 26/09/2011 17:32

june well done on your half! What a great time. Sub 2 is deffo achievable in 12 months I think.

Ibby well done to you too on what seems like a tough course, I don't do lap runs, think they are mentally harder so go you!

encyclo great news about the running club! Let us know how you get on.

fanny I think that you have passed the lurgy onto me. I didn't run yesterday and just feel really Yuk, tired and drained. Plus I can not stop eating, what's all that about? I am bloody Hank Marvin. Just made a Shepherds pie for dinner with some home school grown organic brocolli

Am dragging my arse off to a drill session tonight though, hopefully it will perk me up somewhat.

I did lol at whoever posted they are missing seeing the knobs out at races (master was it you?!) I've never seen one either. Will keep my eyes peeled in future. And how funny if we do see a knob, we think of Fanny. That's a phrase I never thought I'd type on this thread.

DrNortherner · 26/09/2011 17:33

And curryspice welcome. Remember, no matter how slow you run, or whatever distance, you are lapping everyone at home on the couch Smile

peachsmuggler · 26/09/2011 17:43

Welcome curry, you'd better be out doing 5k lady!!! Ha ha. Have you got any races planned or are you running for fun just now?

encyclo, really sorry to hear about your friend, must be very worrying. Good work on the running club, am sure you'll love it, they are so inspiring and really push you. I've never flown class, but am same as you, those sky beds for example would be completely wasted on me as would be up all night, excitedly playing with the free toys and drinking champagne Smile

DrNo, swap you some yummy brocolli for a mountain of grapes. We have flipping tons in our garden and I can't eat them fast enough. Giving them away to all and sundry but still drowning in them!

CurrySpice · 26/09/2011 17:56

My idiot of an ex brought the kids home half an hour early so I'll have to go later now. I had just got about half a mile away and had to run back Angry Knob!

Themasterandmargaritas · 26/09/2011 18:01

Ibby you rant away as much as you like. I do, frequently, oops now the power has gone off! I hope you've got the water back by now.

DrNo, I too snorted at the thought of fanny and all her willies Grin

Encyclo, so sorry about your friend, definitely a reason for you to keep running.

Welcome curry. Little runs or long runs, fast or slow, everyone is welcome here.

I couldn't go and run tonight as I spent too much time picking up teeny tiny bits of playmobil from the grass Angry

rhetorician · 26/09/2011 18:07

M&M as excuses go, that's quite novel...I couldn't go and run today because...I spent 3 hours picking bits of dissolved tissue off DD's blue cord trousers...keep 'em coming

OP posts:
Popbiscuit · 26/09/2011 18:09

Hi Curry! 5K is great! I love that distance because you can just pop out the door and get it done and it usually fits into your day well without seeming like a big block of time. I maintain that 5K is a great distance for mums to aim for because it's so easy to fit in to your day. Do that four or five times a week and you're fit Grin. I'm coming back from injury and finding that 5k is awesome for not aggravating things.

I had a gorgeous run this morning through the ravine trail system near our house. All the lovely fall colours starting to come out and leaves crunching. It's actually quite easy to get lost in there so I inadvertently did 8 miles without meaning too...was a bit sore when I got home but have taken an anti-inflammatory and now feel great. Wonderful way to start the morning.

Popbiscuit · 26/09/2011 18:11

meaning to

Themasterandmargaritas · 26/09/2011 18:13

Damn I've been rumbled.

peachsmuggler · 26/09/2011 18:21

Ok I haven't gone running as spent 3 hours sorting through teeny weeny baby clothes and marvelling that although they were apparently clean when I stored them 3 years ago, they now seem miraculously covered in yellow milk stains....oh and am growing a baby.

rhetorician · 26/09/2011 18:25

oh peach, that's such a rubbish excuse...Must Try Harder

OP posts:
peachsmuggler · 26/09/2011 18:37

Ok ok, the real reason is I have been fighting crime and working towards world peace. For 3 hours.

CurrySpice · 26/09/2011 18:41

No cure for world hunger Peach? Hmm

Pop I agree about the 5km :) When I'm more in the zone I try and do 4x5km a week, and one 10km. Your run sounds lovely. Where are you based?

I'm afraid I was so cross I've had a glass of wine Blush so I'll try again tomorrow. I did run on Friday Saturday and Sunday so not too guilty tbh :o
