great results and reports! am feeling a bit Blush at all the speedy running going on, especially as this weekend has been way too busy for anything like that

had a nice weekend though - went to contemporary art exhibition yesterday and dd had a brilliant time running about saying 'what is it, mummy?' which amused all concerned. They had a giant bed with huge pillows which the kids were allowed to climb on - all very weird but good fun.

nice dinner out at gastropub nearby, had a couple of drinks so woke up early. Lots of cooking today (vegetable quiche, tomato and blue cheese tart, salads, homemade rolls, choc cake, coffee cake) with dd's able (and not so able) assistance...only cloud on horizon was non-appearance of BIL. Really, he's a bit of an arse (coached dn so that she knew her letters by 2, because he did Hmm) and quite frequently bails out on family occasions on this side - this isn't the first time that he's failed to show up. I don't particularly care, but I do mind for dd - who loves him and was very disappointed that he didn't come :( Really, I can't see how hard it would have been for him to show up, sit in a chair and eat some cake for a couple of hours, even if he was hungover.

oh well, we had a lovely time anyway - his loss in the end (I should say that SIL, dp's sis turns up to every family occasion involving his folks)

anyway, I am looking forward to a good week's running, hopefully including at least one weekend run as next weekend will be (relatively) normal

On my phone so popping in - really well done June ! Sounds a fab event and you did so well.

Backward - well done at the tri. Sounds fun but a bit daunting. I'm going to add that book to my Christmas list I think.

Did 8.2 miles with dh yesterday . What should have been a LSR turned into a race pace run and we did it in 69 mins. Tried half a gel in the middle as never had one before and took on water throughout and didn't feel sick despite pushing myself.

How did the other racers get on today ?

futurity · 25/09/2011 20:49

Well done tulip and big respect to anyone who tries to sprint at the end...I am barely staggering at that point!

Wheelybug · 25/09/2011 20:54

Oops sorry didn't think that had posted as was still on my phone !

Well done tulip. Great time. Is the new forest half off road ?

Wheelybug · 25/09/2011 20:55

Oh yes tulip - I've not quite been sick but have retched my way to a finish line before.

rhetorician · 25/09/2011 20:58

see, that's why I will never reach my running potential - just not into the puking part of things :o

ibbydibby · 25/09/2011 21:33

Well done, June and Tulip - was about to ask if you managed to meet up but then remembered you were running HMs in different places... Blush

Loved your report June, sounds like you had a great time.

So, the runway 10k this afternoon. Spent much of day feeling a bit crappy, not sure if pre-race build-up or due to yesterday's over-exertion. I did a lot of digging yesterday afternoon, and have noticed previously that it seems to leave me feeling a bit weak and wobbly the next day. Also felt tummy achey, yet hungry. However DH persuaded me to go, as he knew I would mope around the house if I didn't!

Big build up to start, then 10 minutes of faff, then the start horn with no warning. Luckily had my finger on the Garmin button (can't believe how easy it is to use).

As it was a run way run, it was a case of run along the main runway for a bit, then turn down a smaller runway and return to main runway, run along a bit, turn down smaller runway, return to main, run along a bit, turn down smaller run etc etc. It was a tad boring I have to say, especially as the 10k-ers had to do it all twice (these doing 5k did it once). Found it hard going,as strong wind in one direction, and when the wind was behind, it was really hot going.

Runners were generally friendly, talked to one runner who I had seen at parkrun yesterday - she said she was only doing 5k this afternoon because she had done a local HM this morning!

No knobs to be seen, but I guess with a 10k blokes can be a bit more restrained. I gave away my goody-bag banana at the end though, as it was too large...a friend commented there was a joke there somewhere but we were too tired to think of one.

Time was around 53m 30 (forgot to stop the Garmin!) - not a PB but pleased with effort given that I was considering not going.

Rhet sounds like you have had a good weekend of celebration.

rhetorician · 25/09/2011 21:51

ibby great time - where was this runway run Confused? I have to say all this talk of knobs and queues for loos makes me think that running is just like going to festivals but without the ahem, life-enhancing substances (gels and lucozade really don't count!)...

both of my races coming up are trail runs, so probably no hope of a pb even if I was up for pushing for one

OP posts:
ibbydibby · 25/09/2011 21:55

Rhet, it was Heathrow Tibenham, Norfolk

peachsmuggler · 25/09/2011 22:07

Hurrah and well done to tulip, ibby, and June, all great results!

tulip, are you sure you didn't see a ball of dust in the distance, from Moshi?!?

What a strange course ibby!!! lol at your banana being too big!

June, loved the giganto race report, made me feel quite emotional. Really pleased you enjoyed it so much, and am certain you can do a
sub 2 hour one!

Rhet, shame about BIL. Sounds like he could do with a kick right up his arse! Can I come and live in your house please, the home cooked food sounds truly awesome!

Wheelybug · 25/09/2011 22:10

Well done ibby. It doesn't sound like a good course. Am not a fan of laps !

rhetorician · 25/09/2011 22:13

peach yes, he needs a big boot right up his backside; he works where I do and everyone thinks that he is lovely you'd be more than welcome to move in - but it might be a large belly too far - you and DP wouldn't be able to pass in the hall :o

it was fun cooking until dd decided to tip raw onion all over my pastry rolling efforts...she was frogmarched encouraged to watch cbeebies for a bit after that

June2009 · 25/09/2011 22:15

Thank you for all the messages, I am really chuffed :D

Bit more stats from this HM as I know you like them:
AVERAGE FEMALE'S STATS
02:15:16
10"19'/m

My legs also feel like 80 yo's legs.
I don't know how someone could manage to run again after doing a HM in the morning. Shock.

MoshiMoshi · 25/09/2011 22:16

Sorry for brevity of post. Well done to all today! No time to report other than to say time was not a PB (boo!) but course was very undulating (effing HILLY!) and windy which made it hard work. Chip time 1:31:06 but managed to come in 5th lady and 2nd in my age category. The first lady ran 1:23:20 so there was no chance of me catching her! The first lady in my age category (1:26:20) has won it a few times previously and her time today was 4 mins off her PB so i think we all suffered a bit. They have changed the course route which I think has made it tougher. Must prepare kids for the week and me for SF - DH and I are flying tomorrow morning! Eek!

rhetorician · 25/09/2011 22:26

great run, moshi, what with hills and wind and everything. Won't you get really stiff sitting on that flight tomorrow? lots of walking up and down!

hope SF is fun - I recall slogging up those hills when dp and I were there what seems like a million years ago (when we were young...)

OP posts:
backwardpossom · 25/09/2011 22:33

Wow that's really impressive Moshi, well done! :D

peachsmuggler · 25/09/2011 22:34

Well done Moshi, sounds like a challenging race, though still an awe inspiring time! Best of luck in SF. Hope you get all the info you need, and enjoy yourselves too!

Mmmm onion pastry Rhet, your DD is an inspired cook!! A belly rota should work, no? Wink

ibbydibby · 26/09/2011 09:36

Well done Moshi, fab time.

Water in the wrong place this morning: Peeing down with rain but burst water main on our road means none in the taps. DH reported at 6.15am and told it would be back in 30 minutes Hmm so he went off for his run as usual...I was less believing, and hey presto we are still water less. He had to slink round to my DSis for a shower.

On the plus side Monday is my swimming morning!

Losing the water supply makes you realise how lucky we are to have water on tap.

fannybanjo · 26/09/2011 12:26

Well done Moshi and Envy at your time and it's not even a PB! Hope you are on plane to San Fran safely and have turned left at the doors...

ibby hope you have water! It's lovely day here, no rain at all.

rhet sounds like you've had a good weekend filling your face - hope DP enjoyed her birthday. It'll be my turn next weekend as DH turns 40 and loads planned. However baking not one of them...

May slip out later for recovery run but not sure can be arsed!

I seem to have started the trend for cock watching and am frightened I have opened a can of worms.... Literally.

fannybanjo · 26/09/2011 12:28

Ibby well done also on your 10k!! No Top Gun types to send you off?

ibbydibby · 26/09/2011 13:16

Thanks, Fanny.

Still no water - they are arsing around deciding which burst water main is responsible for our water loss. They are trying to pin it down to the burst water main 6 miles away. I pointed out that gush of water from outside our neighbours' house down the road is a more likely culprit. Grrrr. Not as if I am trying to tell them their job but have been in this situation several times before.

Fortuantely we have 3 full water butts in the garden so can use this for toilet flushing purposes. In the mean time I have the washing up from breakfast pilked up in the kitchen, crusty cereal bowls, ugh. Trying to summon up the energy to heat up some of our emergency bottled water suppply for washing up purposes.

Estimated time of reconnection currrently 5.30pm.

Pawsnclaws · 26/09/2011 13:24

Well done ibby, fabulous. Hope the water gets fixed soon, I think the washing and washing up would really get to me and I'd end up ranting at someone ......

Welll done to Moshi in her absence I'm assuming she's SF bound by now (presumably with flowers in her hair?!). When we were there (pre dcs) we spent a whole afternoon walking round the Presidio and admiring the bridge, it was one of those beautiful crisp clear days. So jealous .... I've never turned left on a plane, unless you count the flight on a tiny plane in South Africa (little twin prop - DH is scared of flying and has never forgiven me for not telling him it was a small plane) where we were pretty much sat in the pilot's lap.

ibbydibby · 26/09/2011 13:49

I meant piled, not pilked Blush. Bon voyage, Moshi

DebiTheScot · 26/09/2011 14:05

The breakfast dishes are piled up in my kitchen too and I've got water Grin
I've turned left on a plane, I think we got on at the back once Grin
