Loved the race report possum, I think you did brilliantly, and this was your first one!!! If you do decide to do another you have already identified areas of improvement. Maybe you could borrow a road bike. Finger sounds painful! Hope it's ok tomorrow! Are you shattered tonight?

Gosh you all have speedy kids! Am having real trouble getting DD (3.5) out of the pram. She just needs more practice and currently trying to get her to do walk/pram on longer distances. Only 8 weeks till DD2 due and need DD1 on that buggy board at the very least!!

backwardpossom · 24/09/2011 21:29

Thanks folks. :)

I'm not too bad actually, peach - more tired from having to get up at 6am then anything I think! Maybe I could have pushed myself harder in the cycle...

peachsmuggler · 24/09/2011 21:32

It's a steep learning curve possum, a tri. 3 different disciplines to improve on, not to mention the transitions. Was it cold out there today?

backwardpossom · 24/09/2011 21:36

No thank goodness, it was a beautiful day - nicer than most of our summer actually! It was a bit breezy though, the wind was in my face for most of the cycle which didn't help. It was ok for the run though - it was on the seafront and was sheltered a bit by the breakwater wall.

peachsmuggler · 24/09/2011 21:37

sticky, google Improvers 10k training plan, or maybe sub 60 minute (or whatever time you are after) 10k training plan. Should be some on the Runners World website I would think.

futurity · 24/09/2011 21:42

Loved the report possum especially as it was your first tri...ouch to the finger!...I felt your frustration as I read your write up. Bet you end up doing another one at some point though? Wink

backwardpossom · 24/09/2011 21:45

sticky I have a 'personal best 10k' plan from Women's Running if you'd like me to dig it out and post it up here or scan the page and send it to you in an email if you like? :)

backwardpossom · 24/09/2011 21:46

futurity I could almost guarantee it! Wink

I forgot to mention, I got a spot prize which was a lovely towel with "Triathlon Inverness" embroidered on it Grin

DebiTheScot · 24/09/2011 22:00

I wouldn't mind that 10k plan possom if you can find it.

stickylittlefingers · 24/09/2011 22:21

possom if it's not too well buried, I'd love to see that plan... what are you planning to do with your embroidered towel? Will it have pride of place in the downstairs loo? Grin Or is it one of those tiny ones (I got one the last time I did the Richmond 10k and thought it was a beer mat until DB pointed out it was for patting dry sweaty gym equipment Blush)

backwardpossom · 24/09/2011 22:25

I'm sure it's on my bedside table, so will scan it and put a link on here, if that's ok? :)

It's a handtowel size - I'll use it for the gym if I ever go to a gym again Grin

tulip27 · 24/09/2011 22:38

Good luck to all running tomorrow. MOSHI i will be thinking of you at the start line, I will be in your dust by the way but if I get round in one piece for my first HM I will be happy.
Smile

orangehead · 24/09/2011 23:04

Well done to your dd sticky.
Sorry your run didnt go to plan Paws. Can see how it would knock you but you have been ill. Im sure the next run will be better.
Well done ibby for being organised enough. Shame for ds2, how old are they both?
Well done backwardpossom, sorry about your finger, ouch. If you can't find find the improver 10k plan I have it. But dont have a scanner so would have to type it and Im a very slow typer. So best if you do it but let us know if you can't find it.
That sounds like something I would do Peachs Grin best to blame it on pregnancy hormones.
Good luck to all racing tomorrow.

orangehead · 24/09/2011 23:07

Just had an invite on facebook from sweatshop for a local halloween 5k. Prize for best costume Grin. Sounds fun but can't imagine running in a costume.

Hatwoman · 24/09/2011 23:08

hello lovelies, and hello to new names who I'm sure are lovely too.

Many many apologies for my absence. and for not catching up - I'll read about your exploits tomorrow - I need an early night tonight. I'm running a relay race tomorrow - ie running in a team where somone might care how quick I am. eek. It's a 50 mile relay. everyone runs a 10 mile leg with a partner - 2 people doing each leg - making up a team of 10. the most difficult bit has been working out the blummin transport - because we finish 10 miles from where we start. and we all start in different places. and we have tried to cut car use asmuch as possible. Confused thankfully someone organised took charge.

will come and "see" you all again tomorrow.

backwardpossom · 24/09/2011 23:13

Good luck to all our runners tomorrow! :D

squix · 24/09/2011 23:20

Well done backwardpossum I am always v impressed with anyone that attempts a tri.

I had a glorious 9 1/2 mile run this morning - quite slow but it was such a lovely day. My ankle seems fine, it feels ok but is still a tiny bit swollen.

Good luck to everyone for tomorrow.

peachsmuggler · 25/09/2011 00:12

Haaaaaaaaat! good to see you lovely! My, you don't do things by half do you. Sounds like fun though, good luck!

orange, you could do it as Wonderwoman, that would be awesome!!

Hope the ankle ok in the morning squix

look at me still up at midnight! That's an afternoon nap for you. My turn for a lie in tomorrow, sweeeeeeeet!

Themasterandmargaritas · 25/09/2011 06:12

Hatty! So lovely to see you, come back and tell us all about your relay.

Peachy, we live in a big city but it has it's own national park which is about 20 mins (on a weekend day!) away, where all the big beasties live. DS1 went to a running camp to a place about an hour away, full of zebras, giraffe and gazelle. It's amazing that outside of the town there is so much wildlife just round and about. Some people have tried to create wildlife conservancies, especially in the 'corridors' where the animals move from one place to another during their annual migration. We are very lucky Grin.

Paws sorry about yesterday's run, but you have put the groundwork in so I'm sure you will be fine. Better to have stopped when your body told you too than try to keep going and make yourself worse.

Great race report possum. I reckon you'll be up for another one soon. Grin

Rhet, I got confused, your birthday or DPs??? Whichever it was I hope it was fun.

It's a beautiful morning here, so I'm just out for a 6k run, I may intersperse some intervals in it.

June2009 · 25/09/2011 12:33

Finished :) wicked race. Runkeeper says 2:09, official chip time later today ( and report )

peachsmuggler · 25/09/2011 13:02

Wow June, that's fantastic! Well done. Can't wait for the report. Glad you enjoyed it!

ibbydibby · 25/09/2011 13:13

Well done June look forward to reading your report, and hearing from others running today.

My 10k not until 4pm today, so faffing around till then.

DrNortherner · 25/09/2011 13:27

possum great race report, well done on your first Tri. I take my hat off to anyone who does a Tri, I would be terrible at the swimming. Ouch to trapping the finger though, hope it doesn't turn purple and horrible.

june well done! Can't wait to read your report, you did so well.

master I saw the pics of ds running amongst the giraffes, wow. Amazing. How long have you been out there?

Rest day for me today, watched ds's football match in the pouring rain, they got drubbed 4-1 Sad, came home, had lunch and he is off to a party later this afternoon. I did 5 miles yesterday and my leg was as sore as ever but today is fine, I can't work it out!

futurity · 25/09/2011 14:01

Well done June....fab time!

Pawsnclaws · 25/09/2011 16:03

Well done June what a fab time!

Rest day for me, just as well. Still had to get up at early o' clock to take ds1 to a football friendly match. Was very proud of him as he is amongst the less able, but happy to play and happy to get stuck in. He's just started with a village team and they've been so welcoming as he's quite shy. Whereas at school there is a real issue with some of the very sporty boys - he just never gets near the ball and is half their size!

Then ds1 and 2 swimming lessons, and now I'm sat at a bowling alley waiting for ds1 to come out of a party. Does anyone else marvel at how lucky children are today with all these activities and social engagements? When I was 8 the highlight of my Sunday was trailing round a garden centre with mum and dad!
