all welcome to come and join in - we talk a lot on here, and are always glad of new people to natter with about running (and everything else)

I'm a classy bird really - could actually make a Big Fanny t-shirt fashionable

rhetorician · 21/09/2011 20:24

well that was fun (Blackpool); DD's dad ran a half in Blackpool a couple of years ago (he's a prop, so looks pretty funny, running) - was supposed to do a full, but faked had a hamstring problem and only did the half. He was disparaging about B'pool's charms, it must be said (but then he is from Yorkshire - just)

yes, DP is veggie and I am all hippy and ethical about meat (or try to be), so we eat very little meat overall. DD doesn't much like it (unless disguised in spag bol or, her favourite, cottage pie, or meatballs). She does like chicken (and enjoys gnawing the bones!), and sometimes pork. I think it's actually about texture. She will almost always eat fish though (including mackerel!) which is great (although not very ethical).

Different hospitals here do different numbers of scans - last time we would only have had one at 20 weeks (we paid!); this time we had an early one, the nuchal (which we should have paid for but it was so miserable that they didn't charge us), and then 20 and 24 weeks (because of the high nuchal). But they are absolutely overwhelmed in mat services - cut-backs plus a baby boom (it's a recession, nothing better to do!), so DP was told that unless she couldn't walk with SPD that there wasn't a chance of any physio Shock. But DP reckons the baby will be born in about 20 minutes, so we probably won't be adding to the strain...

v short run due to time pressure for me today - it was a recovery run, really, but I felt yesterday's effort and my 5am wake-up (dd keeps waking up because she is cold...can't work out how to make her keep her covers on). Also menstrual, which never helps matters (of any kind). Intervals for me tomorrow though :)

wow, what a long post; anyone would think that interesting things happen in my life. Not.

rhet how I do love your dry sarcasm Grin you have a far more exciting life than me. it's all bananas and fannies in this house.

Pawsnclaws · 21/09/2011 20:42

Well we're definitely House of Willy here. Even the dog is male. I sometimes have to check I haven't grown one myself overnight due to all that testosterone.

Blackpool Half sounds a riot, but only if we can all stay in a sleazy guesthouse?!

rhetorician · 21/09/2011 20:56

paws we have no willies at all in this house - the cats are both female, too (despite my attempts to persuade dp that a neutered tom is about as nice a cat as you could hope to have. She now admits that I am right)

OP posts:
fannybanjo · 21/09/2011 20:57

Paws I wouldn't know how to deal with a Penis! Only just worked my head around DH having one... We have 2 female cats and female dog but DH now has a dog with two balls and a knob. He must have been desperate.

stickylittlefingers · 21/09/2011 21:03

This talk of Blackpool is very funny! You're going to have to show the photos of that one...

futurity · 21/09/2011 21:08

Sleepily checks thread...sees lots of talk of willies...rubs eyes...wonders if walked into wrong thread...?! Wink

Pawsnclaws · 21/09/2011 21:27

It's the endless Willy Fascination that gets me, lots of peering, checking, prodding and poking - and that's just DH!

Seriously though, DH had to reassure me some years ago that ds1's poking and pulling at his bits wasn't going to cause lasting damage. And ds3 recently announced to an elderly lady in a shop "I've got a willy winkle." Luckily she had a sense of humour and offered her sincere congratulations!

DrNortherner · 21/09/2011 21:31

Oh yes, the willy fascination. If I had a pound or every time I said 'Leave it alone' I'd be a wealthy woman. I was extremely suprised when ds was a toddler at how stretchy they were. Used to bring tears to my eyes how he pulled it about!

This thread is going down the pan. I blame fanny for lowering the tone.

orangehead · 21/09/2011 21:59

Well just clicked on the thread and wondered why the hell you are all talking about willies Shock. We all mostly penis in this house too, although we have a girl hamster but she really doesnt help my case as we hardly see the blooming thing. I really dont think I will know want to do if I ever have a girl.
I had lots of scans with both sons due to bleeding then at 25 weeks with ds1 they declared my bump was bigger than it should be and he was either going to be a big baby or they had missed a twin. No twin and he was 8.7. But its nice to have so many scan pictures.
Moshi glad you got childcare sorted.
Welcome Fairy, I'm not an experienced runner but sounds like you will be fine, so go for it.
Love the trophy DrNo Grin, a night out in Blackpool and no alcohol shouldn't really be in the some sentence. All this talk of half smakes me one to do one but can't really with ttc [goes off to sulk].
Did six miles tonight in wind and rain but I much prefer that to the sun. I got to 5 miles and feeling a bit tired and on my ipod came ds1 voice saying 'Hi my name is ds1 and this is my photo project I hope you like it, but if you don't I will just exterminate you. Have a nice day' Grin. He was recording his voice on laptop the other day he must of some how saved it to itunes. Anyhow it made me giggle and helped with the running.

orangehead · 21/09/2011 22:03

The stretching goes through me too. I will never forget when ds2 was about 2 years and he saw ds1 naked, he bent down so he was eye level with it waved at it and said 'hello mr penis'. Why are they so fascinated with them?

bonkers20 · 21/09/2011 22:09

Crikey you lot!

I live with 2 boys and 1 man, I work with 4 men, it's no wonder I am completely bonkers. Willies everywhere (though I don't have anything to do with the ones I work with I hasten to add!).

I have fond childhood memories of seeing the Blackpool illuminations in the mid 70s. I think I'll just leave it at that.

I also had extra scans with DS2 (fundal height didn't grow according to the charts). He was fine. Maybe there is a correlation between scans and running. I might do a PhD on it and retire to an exotic island with my Nobel Prize winnings.

bonkers20 · 21/09/2011 22:10

Oh Fairy, welcome. Of course you must do the 1/2 marathon. The distance is in your legs!

backwardpossom · 21/09/2011 22:10

It's when they discover their foreskin can pull back. boak

Too far?

kills thread

futurity · 21/09/2011 22:16

Grin I have two boys and totally identify with all these comments! That's why I have two girl cats..to restore some balance!

rhetorician · 21/09/2011 22:17

I am sure that cestlavie is unable to post because of the tears of laughter rolling down his face :o

I am sure there will be more than enough boys in our lives when DD1 is a teenager...

OP posts:
orangehead · 21/09/2011 22:17

I'll put a spanner in that one bonkers I have only been running a year and half. When I was pregnant I was laziest cow, partly because I was on bed rest for most of all the pregnancies but also because I didn't do excerise back then but still had exra scans, sorry Smile

DebiTheScot · 21/09/2011 22:23

Have you all been drinking?!? Grin
Too many willies in this house too (3)

The scab story made me laugh but did anyone else wonder why Bonkers was on mn after an evening bonk?

6 miles tonight, 9.06 min/miles and felt mostly good apart from serious tummy issues near the end. Usually when I get a grumbly tummy a few farts (tmi) Blush sorts it but tonight I ran through the front door and straight to the bathroom. Not good.

Still not finally decided on Rat Race. DH and the boys probabaly wouldn't come as it'd involve a lot of trailing about and we wouldn't know where until the day (that route and the tasks on the website are only examples). But they would maybe drive up to Twickenham/Richmond if the route went out that way.
But the other issue is that it starts at 9.00 and I can't get to London on the train before 8.40. have texted the guy who's making me do it but haven't heard back from him yet.

June2009 · 21/09/2011 22:26

debbie can't see your post about the rat race, is this the one in london?

orangehead · 21/09/2011 22:29

Debi that's not tmi after the talk tonight Grin, I have never suffered from tummy troubles when running, it's just my bladder that doesn't like me running

DebiTheScot · 21/09/2011 22:34

june yes the one in London. I posted a link yesterday at 1:50pm.

Oh and those of you in your 40s- the woman I mentioned yesterday who was in the British team in the World Championships cycling time trials yesterday is 46!

June2009 · 21/09/2011 22:34

LOL @ the willies conversations... is it something in the gels?

mmm, anyone know where I can find some lucozade gel? This is the only one I have tried in my long runs, can't remember where I got it from (getting nervous? moi?) I may have had some nightmares about getting trampled in the pens (Am only 5 ft with 15cm wrists ;))

rhetorician · 21/09/2011 22:36

debi you don't understand, I like to plead my age as an excuse! mind you, a significant proportion of the first 20 finishers in the women's mini-marathon (a 10k) each year are in the 40+ category - these gals are churning out sub-40 10ks Shock

OP posts:
Pawsnclaws · 21/09/2011 22:41

June I get my lucozade gels from Boots.
