fairy welcome my dear. I say go for it too. You will get round, so if that is your aim then you will achieve your goal. Use the time you get to set yourself a goal for the next one! I ran my first half in June and never ran further than 11 miles in training. Good luck!

Moshi good luck for the trip to San Fran, sounds exciting!

Bonkers I am pmsl at your scabby knee story Grin

Rhet I am curious as to what subject you teach? Do tell.......

Well I have taken the plunge and entered the Blackpool half for next March. Doing it with a friend from work who also runs in my running club, we are going to make a weekend of it and stay in Blackpool on the Saturday night, have dinner, then wake up refreshed for the half marathon. My only target is to beat my time of 1.58, oh and to beat my mate Grin No seriously, we are just going to enjoy it! Any recommendations of where to go on a night out in Blackpool? Was thinking about going to Funny Girls as went years ago and had a riot, but of course we need to be Tee total night before race and I'm not sure Funny girls and being sober is a good mix Grin

Hmmm DrNo night out in Blackpool with no alcohol...?! It's a pre-requisite to numb the pain - I wouldn't bother!! Why don't you go for a nice meal instead - carb up!!

Wheelybug · 21/09/2011 18:15

No peach - I'd have to get her out of nappies for her to wee herself ! Glad you're feeling a bit better. a standard 32 week scan is great - which hospital is it ? I had millions of scans (because dd1 had growth issues she was scanned constantly to monitor her and then they did the same with dd2 because dd1 had had issues) and always thought it must be hard going from 20 weeks to giving birth without scans....

Welcome fairy - sounds like you'd better get signed up ! Good luck !!

Pawsnclaws · 21/09/2011 18:25

Fairy the mumsnet jury has spoken!

I had scans every two weeks with ds1, then quite a few in subsequent pregnancies too, mostly for reassurance but also because ds2 and ds3 were cheerfully announced as being off the scale in terms of size. They were big but not huge - 9 lbs 10 oz and 9 lbs 3 oz so a lot of the worry was over nothing (pretty scary to see "at least 11 lbs" on your notes though!)

With ds1 he suffered IUGR so I reckon I must be one of the few people with "baby too small" AND "baby too big" on my notes .....

peachsmuggler · 21/09/2011 18:28

It's Kings in south London Wheely. Yes they started doing them at the end of last year, am guessing to try to deal with the shocking rate if stillbirth we have in this country. It's a good hospital, they do loads of research there.

Lol at DrNo's pre-race night out in Blackpool. You could do a post pub steeplechase down the street over the piss-puddles and pavement pizzas!!!

Wheelybug · 21/09/2011 18:40

I guessed as much Peach - Kings are v. big in neonatal stuff aren't they? Lets hope that is able to be rolled out across the board ! I for one was very lucky with someone being cautious at my 20 week scan but if she'd not been so cautious things could have turned out v. differently although a routine 32 week scan would have picked it up.

Paws - What a combination ! My DD1 had IUGR (4.9) but DD2 ended up a fairly averagey 7.1.

DrNortherner · 21/09/2011 18:47

What is IUGR?

You may all mock my Blackpool trip but you will all be jealous of my iluminous jewellrey, kiss me quick hat and fake dog shit. In fact, I might bring back a jewell encrusted ornament of Blackpool tower and we can present it to the most improved runner. Whaddya think?

DrNortherner · 21/09/2011 18:50

trophy

WHO would buy that in the first place, let alone second hand from ebay?!

backwardpossom · 21/09/2011 18:54

You should buy it DrNo and pretend to guests that it was your prize for winning the half marathon Grin

Wheelybug · 21/09/2011 18:56

LOL DrNo - Being a southern softie, I have never ventured up to Blackpool, but seeing as you paint such a lovely picture of it, I'm almost tempted. Only almost mind you.

IUGR is Intra Uterine Growth Retardation - i.e. the baby doesn't grow properly, usually due to a fault in the placenta. In my case it was probably tied up with pre-eclampsia although my BP didn't go up until 36/7 weeeks when dd stopped growing entirely.

fannybanjo · 21/09/2011 19:10

DrNo I'm defo up for it - where do I sign up...?! Be a good one to do as part of marathon training if I decide to do Great Manchester Marathon in April.

DrNortherner · 21/09/2011 19:10

Ah, thanks for explaining. Sounds worrying.

Re Blackpool, I'm not quite sure you Southern softies could hack it.......Grin I have a soft spot for it as spent alot of holidays there as a kid, saw Paul Daniels at the Pleasure Beach and it made my life as a 9 year old. Sadly though now it is full of shit and slags

DrNortherner · 21/09/2011 19:12

Blackpool half marathon

Blackpool needs fanny Grin

fannybanjo · 21/09/2011 19:15

peach having general problems with DD2 at the moment - she's got very stroppy and whiney (she's just turned 14 4) which is a huge shock as she's always been the "good one" Confused. She is okay going into preschool just awful when she gets up and getting ready - very stressful as have two others to sort out too. However I was worse at the same age as was DH so it's to be expected really.

Ladies - watched Great British Bake Off last night - loved it!! I've made my crap banana loaf today in honour of it... Grin. Cooking with three daughters - should be a lovely mother daughter moment but it was a culinary nightmare.

fannybanjo · 21/09/2011 19:20

Oh mother of God... DrNo I've just entered it!!

peachsmuggler · 21/09/2011 19:22

Blackpool- Full of shit'n'slags. That's how they should market it! Haven't been there in over 10 years. Went on The Big One last time (rollercoaster) and almost lost my lunch. It did all seem very glamourous as a child...

It does seem unfair that there are such differing levels of care depending on your postcode. I know folk in Edinburgh who are only offered a 12 week scan Sad

fannybanjo · 21/09/2011 19:26

I was in Blackpool with DD1 last month at the Pleasure Beach - didn't venture out of there though but the pleasure beach looked marginally better than it did a couple of years ago.

peachsmuggler · 21/09/2011 19:28

Lovin' your impulsive nature fanny, good for you!! Sorry about DD2 troubles, hope it passes soon.

Am also obsessed with watching GBBO. Made a Butterscotch Pecan Cheesecake this avo and my effing bain marie leaked into the base again. Arrrgghhh. Used a ton of foil but it wasn't wide enough. Will I ever learn? Bet it's flipping lish though, soggy bottomed or not. Will report back later.

DrNortherner · 21/09/2011 19:31

Yay!

Don't they charge like £50 each just to get into the Pleasure Beach now to keep all the tramps out?

fannybanjo · 21/09/2011 19:34

peach now piss orf with ya butterscotch ocean blah blah blah....!!! I thought I was posh putting some cinnamon in my banana loaf!

Oh yes DrNo you're giving me a piggy back all the way around my love. I will put an extra 3 stone on over Christmas for the pleasure!

fannybanjo · 21/09/2011 19:35

Yes they do charge silly money fiver to keep the riff raff out.

DrNortherner · 21/09/2011 19:37

I hate it when my Bain Marie fails Hmm Grin

fannybanjo · 21/09/2011 19:41

You see I know a bairn called Marie but never had the pleasure of a Bain Marie.... Grin

fannybanjo · 21/09/2011 19:42

DrNo I'm going to have a t-shirt printed with "Big Fanny" on so you know it's me. With Afro wig which will resemble the pubes. You still want to meet up? Grin

DrNortherner · 21/09/2011 19:45

Indeed fanny, bring it on. I'm not proud Grin
