and then casually santer to the nearest bar to celebrate without having to do any quick changes. We would not even need make-up, could pretent the beads of sweat was expensive shimmer!

fannybanjo · 23/07/2011 21:18

We've trashed the running thread with chat about dresses and going to bars - we're going to get lynched!

Pavlovthecat · 23/07/2011 21:19

right i am off to watch the rest of casualty and then bed. I am hoping to do a long run tomorrow (3-4 miles if I can).

I am fortunate enough to live near enough to the sea that I can run to it, so is motivation to keep going when I want to stop. I never stop til i see the sea now (unless the lock is shut) !

Have a good evening!

Pavlovthecat · 23/07/2011 21:20

no! it was vaguely running related, we did talk about running in the dress Grin

Pavlovthecat · 23/07/2011 21:20

(obviously when I say long run, i realise that is only long for me. Seeing as many of you ladies see that as a warm up !)

fannybanjo · 23/07/2011 21:26

Bless you - 3-4 miles is a hard slog sometimes for any runner - don't think we all do 20 milers every time we set out! You're doing well to get to that mileage. Most people give up!

DebiTheScot · 23/07/2011 23:21

fanny you are gorgeous! And so are your kids.

Hi z123 and welcome. 1hr 37 is very impressive for a HM!

I did the park run this morning. It's 2 laps so I did the 1st with my friend (who had only run 3.5km before today) and then went off myself for the 2nd lap after she convinced me she was ok. The 1st lap took us 17.5 mins and the 2nd took me 12.5. I finished in 29:58 and she was delighted with her 35:00. I was 7th in my age group so feel like I could get a really good position next time (unless all the good people weren't there today!)
I've set my friend a challenge. A race for me to get sub 25 and her to get sub 30- loser has to buy a drink for the winner.
I can't do it again for 3 weeks but can see it becoming a regular Saturday morning thing.

Hi ladies
Just checking in. I have been totally rubbish with exercise this week. But in my defence everyone in the house has been ill.And am sitting at train station after a hen weekend in bath feeling fairly delicate so obviously written off the weekend . it'll all be better this week and am going to get round to entering for the Blenheim tri next year. Sounds like you are all doing well with your running x

fannybanjo · 24/07/2011 09:45

z123 So sorry, we weren't ignoring you last night, your message got lost in mine and Pavlov's! Yes you can called your time for 5.5 mile decent, especially as you've not really been training! Only tip I can give you is to find a time in the day where you can "pencil" your run in, whether it be 6am or 7pm and make sure you stick to it like any other "appointment". I usually find tiredness wanes when I start running too. I am doing GNR and would love to finish it in a time like you did. Good luck with getting back into it, coming on here helps a lot.

Debi Thank you Blush - honestly I just scrub up okay, hair done, slap on - if I put a photo on of me now you wouldn't be saying the same.... Grin Yoru park run sounds great, I love running with friends but I do find it becomes more of a social thing rather than serious running.

Wheelybug · 24/07/2011 17:00

Hi All and welcome z123.

I completely underestimated how warm it is today (hopes M&M isn't reading this), and still having garmin issues so had nothing to pace myself and just went round Richmond Park in full sun (2pm probably was a silly time to go) a bit fast in the heat (not helped by 3 nights of too much wine) so feeling a bit odd now.

Gym tomorrow - probably 5 miles.at an easyish pace.

Have a lovely hol DrNo - hope your mum is ok.

rhetorician · 24/07/2011 17:30

wheely - a similar kind of a run here - much warmer than I realised - I went out at 3, and did 11k - without water...also 3 nights of slightly more than usual alcoholic intake. But kept my pace right down and actually rather enjoyed it - I really needed an hour or so to myself. We are potty training DD and don't really have a clue what we are doing. She likes having knickers, but other than that we aren't making much progress. Any tips?

fannybanjo · 24/07/2011 18:23

rhet only advice I can give is make sure she is truly ready, Dd1 was 2.7 and totally up for it whereas DD2 was 3.2!! Dd3 (2.4) not quite ready yet so I don't push it. She'll have knickers on and let's me know when she wants to do her business but refuses to sit on potty or toilet. So I put her back in nappies and I'll try again in couple of weeks. If your DD is willing to sit on potty or loo then half the battle is done and I'd then just keep on putting knickers on, leave potty out or keep reminding her to see on toilet. It'll kind of just come naturally when she's ready. Good luck!

rhetorician · 24/07/2011 18:29

thanks fannybanjo - I think she probably is ready (although my mother of course said we should have done it months ago...). We'll keep going for now and if it really isn't working in a couple of days we might leave it. What an annoying thing to have to do!

DebiTheScot · 24/07/2011 20:38

I'm also very much in the leave the potty training until they are more than ready camp. DS1 didn't do it until 3.2 but when he did he got it straight away and had no accidents and we did things like 45 min car journeys on day 2.

I've had such a lazy week. All I did this week was the park run and it didn't feel like a proper exercise session really. I have caught up with a couple of friends on the phone, done some school work, hoovered the car and done an enormous pile of ironing though.

Guess what I just ordered? I had £50 of birthday money to spend and then I got flyer offering a £20 amazon voucher for doing a free 1 month trial with Lovefilm.com so I signed up and the minute the voucher came through I ordered a Garmin 205 Grin Now I just need to remember to cancel the lovefilm membership and get running!

fannybanjo · 24/07/2011 21:03

rhet my mum says similar "oh YOU were trained day and night by 24 months....!" she means well but it can pressure you a bit. Just take each day as it comes, you probably would like to get her out of nappies before DD2 is here but in some ways I found it easier to have both mine in nappies as I had to carry a potty everywhere when dd2 started training and if I forgot it there'd be hell to pay! Hmm

no running for me since Thursday - still feel really unwell plus DH been away so impossible anyway. DD2 and Dd3 got up to start the day at 4.47am Shock so I'm currently curled up in bed waiting for DH to bring me a brew and a cookie.... Pilates tomorrow night and then I'll probably get back in the running game on Tuesday when antibiotics finished. My mum informed me I could kill myself if I went running with a tooth infection as it could go straight to my heart... She's over cautious as my cousin ended up having a heart transplant after doing similar so best lay off until it's gone.

Hope everyone's had a good weekend!

fannybanjo · 24/07/2011 21:05

debi let me know when you get the Garmin what it's like. I'm dithering over getting one as it's a nuisance having to check my phone when I'm doing intervals etc.

rhetorician · 24/07/2011 21:30

fannybanjo sorry about early waking woes...you'll get back to it soon and not notice any difference (i ran very little for about 3 weeks, and am really enjoying myself again now).

Yes would like her fairly safely out of nappies when DD2 turns up.

Garmin 205 is Best Thing Since Sliced Bread...

YeahThatsTheBadger · 24/07/2011 22:03

Hello all! Sorry i've not been about for a while. Real life got in the way of running for a few weeks and felt a bit of a fraud posting on a running thread! Smile

It's been really busy and then when there is the opportunity to get out for a run, I just haven't been able to motivate myself. But I went out today. We went to a country park. DH took the dc's off to the playground and I went for a run. It's meant to be 5k but just mapped it and it's not even 4.5, but it's still a run. Really enjoyed running somewhere different though! Need to get my arse in gear as my 10k is only about 10weeks away and I WILL run it all, and I WILL do it in a decent time. (not in a moshi decent time but a normal person's time! Grin)

Glad the scans went well for peach and rhet's dp. Hope everyone is well and enjoying the sunshine.

YeahThatsTheBadger · 24/07/2011 22:15

Oh and hello new runners!

rhet just see how it goes with the potty training but ultimately, do what works for you, dp and dd. I waited til ds was 2.10 but for no particular reason. I had tried 5 months before, under pressure from my ma and 7 pairs of pants in one day later and we scrapped the idea! Glad we waited but that worked for us and your dd might have caught on by tomorrow!

sfxmum · 24/07/2011 22:45

hello and welcome to newbies to tread Smile

I see there are more babies on the way, good luck hope all goes well

No running this weekend far too much going on, now starts the challenge of holiday running and persuading dd to come with on her bike, I expect tis involve some sort of bribery

happy running all

sfxmum · 24/07/2011 22:48

oh yes potty training leave it for when they are ready preferably to fall in the Summer, much less washing

dd was fairly quick about it thankfully but for ages insisted on putting the nappy back on for a poo, she would also take the potty and hide behind the curtain 'alone mummy', yes alone but in full view of the streetHmmGrin

MoshiMoshi · 25/07/2011 08:18

Welcome to newbies!

Rhet - echo what the others said about only attempt potty training when ready as it happens within days then. DCs all did it at different stages (DS at 2.5, DD1 at 22 months, DD2 at 2.7 and DD3 has just managed it but the novelty value wore off after a week and she wants to wear her nappies again so I am not arguing (for now!) as life is too short and I am too busy to do battle with a 2 year old).

Mum back in hospital with suspected infection/leak. All very stressful again. Looking forward to my LSR this morning and some running therapy.

rhetorician · 25/07/2011 08:30

but how do you know when they are ready? totally confused

sorry about your mum Moshi but hopefully just a temporary set-back. Not sure what running I will do today at up with DD since about 5am and have 3 similarly early starts this week

peachsmuggler · 25/07/2011 08:38

Welcome z123, you sound pretty fast! Good luck with the training.

Moshi, sorry to hear about your mum's setback, hope she makes a speedy recovery, and also that your LSR helps with the stress. Such a rollercoaster when someone you live has cancer.

Rhet, yeah just see how you go. I think it will be fairly obvious quite quickly if she is ready and "getting it". Would be great to have it done before DD2 arrives but try not to pressure yourselves. My DD was 2.8, so that was last November and tbh it's an ongoing thing. She seems to get it very quickly but then had all manner of relapses at seemingly random times. She still has accidents, but only in the house so not too much of a hassle. Been night training for about 3 weeks and she has had 3 accidents which isn't too bad. At the start we had a little chart where DD got stars whenever she went on the potty and a little treat after 10. Am not that keen on star charts but DD requested one having read about it in her potty training book.

fannybanjo · 25/07/2011 08:42

Moshi sorry to hear about your Mum - I don't know the history with her illness but hope all okay. My dad has awful health and it's very hard to see a parent suffer.

rhet you know they're ready when they do a wee in the potty and not keep wetting themselves! Just leave potty out, keep knickers on and nappy off. If she makes the sounds she needs a wee and is eager to use potty then she's ready! If she refuses to go on potty or toilet and fusses, she's not! Smile good luck! Don't pressure her though as she'll revolt... Grin you can't put a time on it, I know it'd be perfect to have her potty trained before DD2 arrives but kids have a habit of wrecking best laid plans Wink

Feel ill still so no running for me but pilates tonight!
