Recovering from abdominal surgery - how long should I wait?

hi, I had some cysts removed from my ovaries last Tuesday and am wondering how long I need to wait before I can start exercising again?

I have three small incisions and will have the stitches removed next week. So far not much pain externally but some nasty twinges internally. I have bought the 30 day shred DVD and know I will need to wait a while to start it but want to do some light exercise in the meantime so I don't put any weight back on.

Any advice/ recommendations based on personal experience? I don't want to injure myself!!

Ask your Dr?

Topsi - I have a follow up appointment in 2 weeks (earliest I could get) so will ask then, but as that is so far away I was hoping maybe someone who has had the same/ similar surgery would be able to share their experience.

my sister had it done a few months ago but she doesn't do that much exercise. Ask the nurse when you have your stitches out. I guess you havent had any major muscles cut but you should wait for thigs to heal before you do major exercise. I would have thought you would be ok with a brisk walk or gentle swim.

I wouldn't do any vigorous exercise before your follow up appointment, when you can ask. The last thing you want to do is burst your stitches, and two weeks isn't that long off.

If you are desperate, you could make an appointment with your GP to discuss it with him.
