Is anyone doing this - I have signed up for the supersprint - never done ANYTHING like this before and am quietly terrified.
I am doing the super sprint so 400m swim, 10k bike and 3k run ( I think)

Have been working on my running as its my weakest thing but really need some support - I have a couple fo friends who are doing it but they are doing the Sprint and are already super fit so am looking for some 'online' buddies instead????

Thebonkers, Can't be a buddy as I'm not doing the London Tri this year as I will be on hols at the time. I just wanted to wish you lots of luck.
i have been doing the sprint 4 years on the trot and am totally addicted!
You may already be doing some of this but a few things I'd advise:

Make sure you do some open water swims before hand
do some brick sessions (doing a bike ride then getting straight off and running-the running uses different muscle groups and your legs will feel like "dead jelly" so getting them used to this feeling will help)
Take in fluids before and during race
Try not to swallow the dock water - its rank!
get elastic lock laces in your trainers - easier and quicker to get your feet into

enjoy!

Just seen this thread. Are you still there Bonkers? If you are I'll come back and chat but not enough battery power to write more now!

Just revisited this sorry not come back but nobody answered at first.

Thanks for all those tips Clure- have a couple of open water swims coming up - 1 competitive and 1 just general trainng. did a brick session on Monday and nearly dies...8.5k bike and 2k run wasnt even that far!!!! though to be fair was v hot and was prob not properly hydrated, but I am pleased I was at least able to do it...
Got the elstic laces - so handy! Got my wetsuit which I look 'interesting' in - not my most appealing look has to be said!

Debi are you doing this???

I'm not doing it but did my 1st tri last week and am doing another one in July. The one I did last week was my 1st ever and I loved it. It was a sprint so 400m swim, 20k bike and 5 k run.

I hope I didn't sound like I was going to be an expert on my 1st post! I was just hoping you were still there as a fellow novice!

I don't think I will ever do an open water swim. I have an annoying fear of swimming when I can't see anything! So my tip was also going to be make sure you can swim in open water!

I was given a few race day tips but I guess general training tips are more helpful at the moment. The brick sessions are sooooo worth it. I did about 5 before my tri and found that the time to feel ok on the run reduced each time and also I wasn't phased by the jelly/lead legs on race day as I knew what was coming.
I bet if you'd run further you'd have found you felt ok. I found each time that once the jelly legs feeling went I could run fine but just felt tired.
Have you got a schedule to follow? I found a good one that was managable with a bit of editing and I was happy with my performance and time.
