Kickboxing!

Hello Smile Im hoping to go to my first kickboxing class tomorrow night but Im pretty anxious, Ive had panic attacks in the past and worry that I'll have another one and embarrass myself. I have a big fear of looking silly Blush

I wondered if anyone could tell me a bit of what I could expect? Also what is suitable to wear? I have a tshirt and a pair of cropped, loose 'jogging bottom' type things and hoping these would be okay.

Ive wanted to go to a class for ages but get so very anxious I back out and then feel worse than ever Sad

Any help very much appreciated

DS1 does kickboxing. The classes are very intense - lots and lots of bag work exercises, and sparring. Take lots of water. He wears cut-offs and a T shirt.

I do karate, and I'd say don't worry about embarrassing yourself. Everyone feels that way to start with, when you don't know what you're doing, and you always feel you've got the wrong foot forward, or the wrong hand. It passes, and you're already streets ahead of all those people who sit in front of the telly wishing they had the balls to go to a martial arts class.

Have fun. Post back when you've been!

I had to give up Kickboxing two years ago due to changes in my job.

I am 45 and I love love love kickboxing and I need to find a way back!

You will work at your own level but once you get into it you will want to push yourself.

Most clubs have their own kit that you buy after going a few times.

Hope you like it!

Dillinger · 26/01/2011 14:42

Thankyou upahill I appreciate it. I remember a good few years ago a neighbour of mine (where I used to live) took up kickboxing and had the best time, she loved it!

Im so anxious right now though its awful.

I know if I dont go, I'll feel even worse.

Well if you don't go, Upahill and I will hound you through Mumsnet until you have to name change Grin.

I am expecting a full report tomorrow.

upahill · 26/01/2011 23:02

Well how did it go dillinger?

Dillinger · 27/01/2011 09:19

Omg I had the best time Grin

The trainer is lovely, the new friend I was going to meet couldnt make it but I was brave Blush and went anyway, and another girl turned up so we paired up.

Thanks for your encouragement Smile

That's great news. When are you going again?

upahill · 27/01/2011 09:39

I used to go 3 times a week and it reallly transformed my body and I looked great (looking back)

Like Isaid it is 2 years since I stoppped going and I miss it like mad and would love to go back but I work many evenings.

Dillinger · 27/01/2011 10:16

Its only once a week at the moment so I'll go again next week, and hopefully it may become more regular as a few times a week would be fab.

Dillinger - I kickboxed for 3 years and loved it! Cant go now I have little children (have to be home in the evenings) - so appease my kickboxing lust with boxing training during the day time - but looking forward to when I can get back into kickboxing.

MooMinCow · 08/02/2011 18:45

I started kickboxing last sept and I LOVE it! I go 2-3 times a week to a ladies only class. you will feel a bit silly at first, but once you get used to the basic punches and kicks you won't care about others. I feel a lot fitter now and we have a good laugh with the instructors. is fab for stress relief too!

is it a mixed ability class? is that what makes you nervous? try and partner up with someone at the same training level as I find that you can encourage each other along.

Dillinger · 10/02/2011 08:21

I managed to go last night so feeling much happier today Grin Its now a mixed class and I did feel a bit of an outsider when the blokes all finished something we were doing first - but I guess this will sort itself when Ive had more practise.

Its only once a week at the mo which I hope will increase.

Thankyou MooMinCow Smile
