Zumba - Anyone tried it?

Anyone tried a Zumba class? What was it like?? Is it hard to do correctly if you are not that great a dancer??

I am pretty unfit and have a few stones to lose and want to do an exercise class that is fun and a bit different. I've tried going to the gym but I find it really boring and get demotivated very easily - I think I need to be shouted at by a thin person in lycra.... Blush

I tried the dvd .
Its hard , think a class would be more fun , but its a good workout. If you have been to dancing classes you`ll love it.

You can get it on download sites.

I have never tried it but I did watch a class once.

This was in St Lucia, with a teacher who was a professional dancer and a class full of should I say pretty co-ordinated, lithesome women used to getting down and dancing at Carnival etc.

I am your typical uncordinated white forty-something woman with two left feet. No way. I watched but did not particpate.

You might find it easier in this country though.

I've done it and I think it's fun. It is hard at first because you don't get a lot of instruction so you need to make sure you can see the instructor to copy them and it'll take a few classes before you feel you can keep up.

Having said that, nobody will be watching you as they will all be looking at the instructor too.

I'm hopelessly uncoordinated and can't dance at all but have been doing Body Jam and Zumba for a year and really enjoyed it - and I feel I'm a bit more coordinated too.

Been doing it a while now and love it! Not at all coordinated but over a few weeks you get more used to the moves. Different instructors seem to do classes quite differently and I prefer some to others. Give it a go - it is a great workout.

I did my first class last night. It was great. I am fairly co-ordinated but the steps weren't that hard. Most people looked like they were coping and a lot of people were new.

The music was good and it was more fun than aerobics. I was chuckling all the way home.

Give it a go. You won't know if you don't try!

Zumba is loadsa of fun. I fell in love with it the first time I tried it, so much so that I've now become a teacher! Give it a go. It doesn't even matter if you're the doing the moves correctly, just keeping moving and have fun all the way

I tried it last week and will be going every week. It was absolutely fantastic!

It was really really fast so yes it was hard to keep up (I'm a rubbish dancer) but it's so fun that it doesn't matter! Each song had different moves so it didn't get boring. Afterwards I was knackered but in a good way - exhilarated.

Give it a go! I haven't done a Zumba DVD but I bet it wouldn't do justice to it - actually being there with about 50 others having such a laugh, it was really fantastic.

I"m booked for my first one on Wednesday. Rather nervous!

Ooooh interesting - it's really gaining in popularity round here. A friend was telling me about it, I said that I would worry about not being coordinated enough to keep up. She looked at me strangely and said that I shouldn't worry, she never thinks about anyone else as she's too busy trying to breathe and keeping the sweat from running into her eyes......... eek!
